How is there no thread on this train wreck?

it's in the Netflix thread in OOT, but surely deserves its own thread.

thoughts:

Joe Exotic is obv out of his mind...buuuttt...he does make convincing arguments regarding Carole Baskin

she may or may not have fed her missing husband to tigers

her Big Cat Rescue does seem shady at best, the volunteers work for years, hours on end, for free (their reward is a different color shirt each year they level up) in the name of saving these caged animals, when it is basically just another big cat zoo.

the Baskins are kinda just doing the same thing as the other big cat zoos, just under the guise of animal rights. Carole just seems super disingenuous overall, and seemingly every person involved in the doc was whacko in one form or another.

all these places seem cult-like, and the owners dominate their colleagues (Joe with his husbands, Bhagavan with his wives, and Carole with her beta-cuckboy husband.

in summary, dogs > cats

Great series. I loved the libertarian campaign manager, doc antle’s harem, the rat on the waverunner. Carole was a great villain

Doc Antel is literally a cult leader. The campaign manager was my favorite character too, everything he said was right as far as I remember.

I think it kind of dropped the ball in the last episode. The storytelling got kind of spotty. I also wish they had done more to expose Jeff Lowe.

Also, was super convinced the singing voice was replaced or fake, but seems like he had pipes

Probably the highest ever number of cringe-worthy scenes per minute for any documentary in history. Also the largest number of unsavory real-life characters in one show. As far as making a list of the best and worst scenes , I wouldn't know where to start. Apparently the Florida sheriff has just recently again asking the public to come forth with help on the disappearance of Carole's husband. Showing her meat grinder working up close was over the top. . Also I wondering why Joe was shown with a knee brace and crutch. Found out it was from car accident he had that was not discussed on the show.

Opening a case that is almost 25 years old when the odds are the wife did it will get them nowhere. I still can't believe Joe took the stand and said he gave that guy $3k, all he had to do was be quite and that charge would never stick. Also, with the copyright deal with Carole, he is too stupid and full of himself to know he had no chance to win, and that caused the whole series of events.

Joe Exotic Doesn’t Actually Sing The Songs You Hear On ‘Tiger King’

from genius.com

Quote:
According to Vanity Fair, Joe found the pair of musicians and got them to record songs for him for free by telling them he needed music for an upcoming reality show that was the subject of a bidding war between cable networks. The band was eager for exposure, and the first song they made for him was “I Saw A Tiger.” They created all of Joe’s songs within two weeks after Joe gave them a topic.
i guess his voice isn't a combination of Fergie and Jesus after all.

Incredible entertainment. Always tough to judge how much is legit and how much is sensationalized in these things but Im fairly confident that Carole is the worst person on the show and probably a murderer. The wacky cult implications about Doc I dont believe at all. Also dont think Joe actually paid Jeffs #2 who he hated to drive across the country to kill someone.

Maybe I missed it, but why is everyone so sure that Carole killed her husband?

aside from it "usually being the husband/wife", her missing husband was fairly wealthy and had reportedly told people close to him he was going to divorce Carole, very shortly before his disappearance.

she requested his death certificate pretty much the day it was legal to declare a missing person dead, and her husband's assistant/executor claimed Carole may have altered the will, basically leaving the rest of his family with nothing. i think he had some journal entries or something as well, stating he feared for his life because of Carole. he also apparently shared this sentiment with those close to him.

also, her husband's van was mysteriously found at the airport he was supposed to fly out of right before he vanished like a week after the investigation began and no one noticed it originally.

sure i'm missing a bunch of other details, but the people from the documentary that were on the case didn't make it seem like it was that implausible that she was in on it somehow.

essentially all circumstantial evidence, which is why eating/feeding tigers people you murder is the purrfect crime

In a case like this if you look at who benefits the most from a death most of the time youll be right.

Id take even odds that she was involved in some form

There was also the part of the will or Power of Attorney proclamation that was presumably changed that said something like, "Carole will assume POA duties upon my death or disappearance." Nobody puts that in their own will.
