Cast seems fun overall. I hated the Ghost Island concept and the flashbacks to other seasons. So useless. Also lol'd at Donathon reading the "no game for you" letter and just accepting that and not even looking around. I was also confused by the massive amount of food he was preparing on Ghost Island.

Oh I don't disagree I like the kid myself. But in one of his confessions he was talking about how decisions are important and "I think if you make a bad decision that will haunt you for life". That's so in line with the theme they're forcing down our throats this year, it didn't feel authentic to me at all. They're making it soooo dramatic.

Lol yea the "haunt you for life" definitely wasn't authentic. All part of the Survivor machine. I suppose I'm less prone to rolling my eyes at that stuff as my view of the whole machine is more "some players know how to fight for limited airtime" and less "producers telling them what to say". (Obviously there are degrees of both for all players, of course.)

Really like the cast so far. Everyone came to play and they all seem to be on a somewhat equal strategy footing except for the obvious outliers like Donathan.

They really ramped up the hottie factor this year. About seven of them are already island hot and that's with Gonzalez already voted out. I'd almost be begging to get sent to Ponderosa so I could get drunk with some of those women.

Bradley, Michael and James all are my picks to go far.

I think so. There are certainly examples where he encourages players to dig deep/pick up the pace/whatever. You might call that more of a challenge than encouragement but in either case it tends to have the same effect. He's not shy about inserting himself into the game.

Only if you were also thinking he should've picked the Asian guy. So, yes.

I only remember him doing it to Cirie after the challenge was already over

He usually tells the entire tribe to step it up, and makes fun of some individuals like "x is struggling right now!". It's just commentary.

Jacob: absolutely atrocious. Perhaps worst ever.

Domenick: I don't understand the fake idol play.

Ghost Island: 'break the urn' - which urn? Why left to right? Why only one?

Donathan and James: that swimming was an embarrassment. That was not a 'heroic' for Donathan. The guy sat on the dock doing nothing for 5 minutes.

This is is interesting to me...so it's wrong to make a game-decision based on stereotypes, when that's all you have to go on at the moment?

When you play poker, don't you make initial decisions based on who you're up against: an OMC, a young Asian dude in a hoody, a MAWG with an expensive watch, or an older woman?

Stereotyping is of course fine for both poker and Survivor (in the absence of any other info). In the case of Survivor, hopefully part of that decision making process accounts for the social game and more than level-zero "Asian guy probably good at puzzles and black people can't swim".

In the context of the social game, choosing Des (and the other girl) might be the correct "stereotype play" simply to avoid all those millennials on your tribe muttering to themselves "hey that Chris guy might be a misogynist for not picking a girl to do the puzzle, let's vote him out." Gotta manage the target on your back, and gotta manage how folks might perceive you.

It's sort of a position you really don't want to be in to be honest because whatever you do your decisions can be interpreted in one way or another and sometimes you just can't control that. You just don't want to put yourself out there. Apparently Brendan really didn't want to be leader but was really pushed into it.

Chris was not as terrible as he seemed preseason but the willingness and enthusiasm he had in taking the leadership role is concerning. Just putting a target on his own back.

With those day-glo yoga pants she sometimes wears and that frizzy hair, Stephanie reminds me of Shirin, who's someone I definitely was hoping not to be reminded of any time soon.

Show some respek for one of the GOATs

Episode was good. No one stood out in terms of hitching my wagon to for the season

Male Model dude gonna be gone soon. Very unselfaware of how he comes across.

I love watching people that think they're gods gift to Survivor fail horribly(the Dr. last season). Jacob was one of the worst survivor players ever.

Feels like a female winning season. Maybe Wendall if not

There is no worse accent for making someone sound like a moron than deep Appalachia. It makes the marble-mouths from backwoods South Carolina sound like geniuses. One of the smartest people I ever knew had that accent.

V.Good thing to have in Survivor because people will just underestimate you like they did with J.T in Tocantins.

I don't think Donathan has any shot of winning this though, even if I do find him very endearing.

Gotta strongly agree with this. Felt similarly after the first episode of Game Changers (though I recall posting that I thought Sierra had the best shot).
