awesome ending! Fatty is gone. I was scared we would get the 'Naviti strong' bull**** from last season and all the davids would be gone

The problem is that because it has to be played before the vote, it's going to be a very rare situation where it will be played correctly. Like, the person that you specifically want gone needs to have an idol, play it at that exact tribal you're all voting for them, and have their idol playing needing to have made a difference had you not played your nullifier (ok, if all the other criteria is present then this is more likely). Idunno, just seems like it will get played unnecessarily almost always.

They should have made it more powerful by being able to play it after an idol is played. Yes it makes it pretty powerful for an advantage, but maybe only 10% more powerful than it should be. But as it is, it's only 50% as powerful as it should be.

The cast is killing it btw. Lots of great personalities and people to root for. I feel like most of these people would be a good hang in the real world.

Lots of people to root for this season and they all came to play. Couldn't ask for much more.

Re: Survivor S37: David vs. Goliath Main Thread

That was a crazy bad move from Alec but a great move for the season moving forward, was really scared we would get more naviti strong stuff after all 3 tribes had a Goliath majority but thankfully that didn't happen. Elizabeth and Davie did a great job connecting with Alec on a personal basis and making him make a bad decision based more on emotion than logic.

Here for Slamtown and Wimpsville to crush the game. Nick cracks me up with his alliance naming and Natalie is hilariously clueless.

Re: Survivor S37: David vs. Goliath Main Thread

Great move shifting them to 3 tribes of 5 and the fact it was 3:2 on each tribe just makes it so easy for people to shift alliances. Basically splitting up the beginning tribes completely so that when they merge either back into 2 or as a whole then people won't vote strictly on initial tribal lines at all.

I can see John and Christian having a vibe a la Clay and Brian H from ages ago but see Christian coming out on top as the nerd. With Nick as a pawn the whole way through. So far some awesome strategy and alliance making and I'm really enjoying the season.

Idol nullifier also a good twist and is needed for sure. Just wish it could be played after the votes are in but before they are read. That way you know the person has used their idol and can trash it.

Didn't realize how annoying Natalia was until they showed her crazy side. Too bad she left though because she was hot.

Christian just crushing it. Charm nuclear warfare ftw!

Davie crushing it too. Played both sides as smooth as butta.

Alec is really stupid. "I'mma have zero allies, but lemme flip real quick cuz this girl be annoying me."

Lol'ed at Natalia's closing words. "I'm just pissed. I want to hurt him so bad."

I think it’s better to have to use the idol nullifier first. It’s not nearly as much of a crapshoot as people are saying; you just use it on the person you’re voting for, and then you don’t have to worry about splitting votes. It would be too much if you could play it on any idol blindside

it’s really going to suck if someone loses after playing the idol, without ever knowing something like an idol nullifier existed. it’ll be interesting to see if Carl tells anyone, since it’s a huge piece of information just knowing that is in the game

also puts Dan in a really bad spot since everyone knows about his idol

Re: Survivor S37: David vs. Goliath Main Thread

Idol nullifier before the vote seems fine. The power of HII's is more often that it scares people into voting for easier targets if they know there's an x% chance the idol is played and their vote will be wasted, which can be a devastating outcome if that means the majority vote then shifts to you or an ally. If you don't have overwhelming numbers and you can't pull off a blindside it becomes impossible to flush an idol. The idol nullifier doesn't need to actually nullify an idol to be effective, it just needs to reduce the chances of an idol ruining your vote to zero, which it does.

Someone mentioned earlier about the ability to use the idol nullifier to avoid having to "split the vote". As someone who started rewatching the show about 5 seasons ago after having stopped before the season in which the HII was introduced, when was the last time splitting the vote actually turned out to be the right thing to do? Every season we hear it thrown out there, and sometimes actually done, but I can't remember it having ever worked. Did it, back in the day?

Re: Survivor S37: David vs. Goliath Main Thread

split votes happen all the time. they do backfire occasionally, but the success rate is probably over 50%

I think it just doesn’t get as much attention when nothing goes wrong, since it makes for a relatively boring episode

I watched the episode this morning and I didn't understand why the final vote was 3-1-1. Why did Kara vote for Davie, and Natalia voted for Elizabeth? If they were both blindsided by the vote, then why wouldn't they be on the same page and voting for the same person?

every time my fav chick gets booted my interest on the show drops by like 80%. rip natalia

really like christian. him and gabby are cute together. I just wish she would stop crying. for those saying she was playing when she cried to christian last week, this ep confirms she indeed was freaking out imo.

I imagine that Natalia and Kara decided to throw one vote on Elizabeth just in case Elizabeth had an idol. As far as they knew, Alec and Davie were with them, so spending one vote on a backup plan (the alternate David member) seems like a reasonable precaution.

Correct, but I think you mean "Natalia and Kara decided to throw one vote on Davie just in case Elizabeth had an idol."

Just in case that's confusing to anyone else.

So Natalia and Kara thought the plan was for Natalia, Alec, and Davie to vote out Elizabeth with 3 votes. But if Elizabeth had an idol, then Kara's vote for Davie would create a 1-1 tie between Davie and whoever Elizabeth voted for, and then Natalia, Kara, and Alec would vote out Davie on the re-vote. That seems like what the plan was, at least, until Alec flipped and brought Davie along on the flip.

I love Christian, but is there any chance his "charm offensive" backfires in this situation?

If the goliaths are 100% going to vote a David, maybe they vote him as a bigger threat.

Not saying he should isolate himself or anything, but maybe like 70% of max charm is actually better.

the thing im thinking about is how dam often people make spectacles of their idols before the votes. so if you can figure out that theyre bluffing, you can have the nullifier to use on them another time
