This. Hope R.C., Denise and Malcolm stick around awhile. So far, pretty unimpressed by all 3 returnees though.

I don't know how far they're going to go, but I'm rooting really hard for the Malcolm/Denise pair right about now. They come across as super level-headed.

Seems like it'll be a good season. Rooting for Malcolm and RC for sure, and wouldn't mind some Penner antics either.

For those getting confused about the banking thing, she's an investment banker. It's a pretty "prestigious" job, especially in NYC. You work 100+ hour weeks when you start out, it's pretty cutthroat and tough to land, and you make piles of money. But it gets a bad rap since the stereotype is a douchebag cocky rich person. Its gotten a lot better recently though and obviously most bankers these days don't fit the stereotype. She's hiding it because she's worried it'll show that she's smart, a thinker, and won't hesitate to play sneaky or dirty. And I think that's exactly who she is and what she's going to do if she has to.

Great episode, I have really high hopes for the season now.

I think that Malcolm has GOAT potential and Angie HOAT potential.

Not looking good for Penner, however Skupin, Denise and Dana seem to be in really good spots.

lol Zane, I didn't even think he was that risky a pick for Survivor-Survivor...

few things...

I'm sure it's been mentioned 20 times, but Angie is probably top 5 ever.

The dude Malcolm looks like Barry Zito

Russel Swan sucked the first time, and continues to suck. There wasn't anyone better to bring back? If I were on the show, there's no chance I'd take orders from him, he's almost irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Really wanted to see Zane for a few more episodes, and was hoping he'd start to think Angie liked him. Would have made for some hilarious talking heads.

I didnt like the investment banker chick at all... but i do suspect she's gonna look nice come day 25 or something should she make it that far when that belly melts.

I've always liked Penner, I don't think he sticks that long though, even if he gets the idol.

was it wrong that I was actively chanting "break it, break it" When Kent had his knee stuck against the side of the ship?

if Kent had to be medivaced on day 1, they would have just heralded him as one of the "greatest survivors to leave with injury" and brought him back in a future season like Russell.

Seriously though, how long was he even on his season? 12 days?

Great start of the season. I love this cast.
So far I feel pretty good about my pre-season assessment of the cast and the tribes.

I think it's fair to say that none of the returning players had a good start. I'm very disapponted in Penner, he should know better.
In the first few hours and days, like Albert mentioned in Dom&Collin's podcast, you have to stick with the majority at all times. Going on a swim alone and/or idol hunting is just a bad idea.

I like the Malcolm/sex therapist Denise/Miss Utah Teen alliance. Russell now is totally isolated and can only be saved by the shuffle. The African American preacher girl is Purple-Kelly'ing it, she and Russell can race for the next spot to go in that tribe if that tribe looses again.
At this point, Malcolm is owning this game. He also came prepared and know how to make fire and then let Russell do the work - genius. Delegation without letting people know that you're doing it is such a powerful tool.
I also like Denise a lot. She's very observant and got a good connection with the younger members of the tribe. That's where many older women in Survivor have failed miserably.

It was comical how clumsy Skupin is. Being clumsy and not knowing that you are and not caring is a dangerous combination.
I like RC a lot, the player she takes with her to the end has a great shot of winning
She's a bit too over-confident and I feel a big blind-side coming post-merge.
The RC/Abi-Maria alliance is a very dangerous and HOOOT combo. Abi-Maria is such a flirt machine ("My big Brazilian booty is too big").
Great job, picking the clothes for that couple.
Artis doesn't look too promising, he's probably drawing dead at this point. The you'uns took over that tribe and they'll use Skupin until he's no longer useful.
Even though, we didn't get a lot of Pete he still could be the one that benefits if the RC/AM couple overplays their hand.

Penner's tribe is such a disorganized group, hard to imagine they gonna have the winner in them.
Love Dawson, great villainy vibe from her. Did the other pageon girl even speak? I guess she's just eye-candy backup, in case the other hotties get booted to early.
Dana as a character is also pretty awsome, wouldn't put her too low on my power rankings.
Hopefull Jeff Kent's knee can recover, I wanna see Dawson play with his soul a bit!

i think a lot of his rep comes from the fact that people romanticize that if he didnt get evac'd then HANTZ wouldnt have made it to the end

Based on the first show edit

(in no particular order)

Has a chance

RC
Malcolm
Denise
Dana
Jeff (Dare I say it)

Drawing Dead

Swan
Penner
Skupin
Lisa
Abi (Yes, I said it)

Floaters

The rest

Need to get Katie and Angie in a mud wrestling challenge before one of them get voted off.

Surprised I liked Roxy quite a bit. From her bio, etc I pegged her as most likely to be annoying. She could be a deep floater.

Dunno, you list doesn't feel like a list that's just edit-based.

I would put i.e. Katie (that's the other invisible pageon chick on Penner's tribe) instantly on the drawing-dead list. The edit of "celebrities" is always hard to decyther. If Jeff was a normal player, I'd agree with 'has a chance' but with Dawson recognizing him and probably telling at least another person soon, it's gonna be like a wild-fire and he's just not gonna win.

You're right about Skupin, I guess, because he would get a sick hero-edit for sure if he won or almost won.

But really, what choice did he have? He was going to be be voted out 100% if he didn't try something; normal scrambling would not have been effective.

I think the comeback was more related to their pairing combinations. The paddle and swim was a far more important leg then the others. Swan's team appeared to fish that up and lost as a result.

which is beyond foolish because even if Hantz doesn't drag his tribe with him, he obv would have just idol-ed his way to the end regardless, using it every single tribal and heightening his mythos that much more.

No way, Jeff was a tool that CBS used to pull in viewers for the premiere so they were always going to give him ample camera time for every single thing he did. He still has no shot at actually winning this game.
I actually had Dana pegged for a late tribal or early-mid jury stage exit (and this most likely will still be the case), but I like the nice, slow buildup that they're giving her so who knows.
Penner's tribe is definitely the most interesting at this point because they haven't really been defined too much. It's easy enough at this point to say you want out the returning player when you're like 2 days in and haven't had any challenges or lived with each other yet. But I get the strong suspicion that once they have a few more days under their belt or someone comes through as a major challenge liability that focus may shift (if Penner survives to that point). Or they could just as easily go on to dominate challenges 'til the shuffle.

btw, based on all the attention they're giving it, I have no doubt that Penner will find the idol (don't think it's CBS misdirection)

Survivor Philippines premiere ratings down from last year

Quote:
Wednesday night’s 25th cycle premiere of Survivor slipped in the ratings, a pretty typical story for the CBS program’s debuts in recent years. The reality veteran had a 90-minute opener that delivered 11.2 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the adult demo, down 9 percent among adults 18-49 from last fall.

I'm taking avatar requests! Probably only doing them by request this season. Any avatars from the opening credits won't be available until week three because I'm way too spoiler-paranoid to not fast-forward them.

If ever a season called for the Slip n Slide Ring Toss or Beach Brawl Challenge, this is undoubtedly the one.

Also, ITT people anoint "potential GOAT"s and confer "owning the game" titles after one decent-good showing...I wonder how that worked out for Marcus, and Marty, and Brendan, and Brenda, and...
