Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

It's just amazing how year after year on a non-all star season, you can make it to the merge or very close to it by just shutting your mouth and not being an *******.

which is a recipe for boring, uneventful post-merge episodes (Australia post-Jerri, Marquesas, etc)

a lot of the great characters get the chop early unfortunately

under the radar is the new power strategy LOL

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

(Un)Official Top 5 Power Rankings.

Kos13, vyk07, Soncy, SavageTilt, and myself put together a Top 5 of the players remaining who we think are in the best spot to win.

Whoever is ranked 1st will get 15 points; 2nd 10 points; 3rd, 7 points; 4th, 5 points; 5th, 3 points. The player with the most total points is 1st thru 5th obv.

So this weeks Power Rankings:

1. Brenda (52)
-Less likely to be viewed as a traditional 'threat' because she's a small female, and she has Chase whipped into doing whatever she wants. (SavageTilt)

2. Sash (37)
-He's smart, he's got strong allies, and he seems quietly devious. (Kos13)

3. Benry (28)
-New Leader of Espada, shown ability to blindside anyone with leading the vote out of Tyrone. (cash mahne)

4. Jill (27)
-Her position seems precarious, but I'm not ready to give up on her yet. (Soncy)

5. Marty (25)
-Target on his back, on the wrong side of the numbers, cunning with an idol though (vyk07)

Others receiving votes: Chase (18), Alina (12), Jane (3)

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Brenda was pretty much handed the leadership role of a major alliance. When you think about how it happened, it was just a ****storm of weirdness and luck.

i like an under the radar strategy, until a couple of votes into the merge. You won't seem like a major threat and then you step up as a power player with a chance to actually win the game. This can work for some people, but others like Tyrone would still be targeted as a physical threat.

Fabio might be the best Survivor to make gifs of that are funny. Matthew from The Amazon could be as well.

So Marty/Jill/Yve all seem to be in precarious positions at this point in the game. What should each of them do in order to survive? If you were them, what would your moves be right now?

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

if i was Marty/jill, i would stay as close to Fabio as possible and hope he spills the beans about which way the vote is going and then use the II to pick up some momentum. I don't see what Yve can do really except say/prove she has more to offer to the tribe then Dan and is more stable and dependable then Holly.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Marty/Jill should be trying to flip Jud and KB/KS (KS actually seems more open to this, if the one instance of her talking on CBS is any indication) using the threat of the idol.

The oldies still on Espada collectively screwed themselves by voting out one of their own unless they can get someone to flip. Alina and Benry are the obvious candidates, with Alina probably being more likely. Beyond that... hope NaOnka either leaves or implodes and alienates her own tribe.

My justifications for the power rankings in case anyone's interested:

The UTR strategy seems correct for pre-merge. IMO the best approach is to attach yourself to the dominant alliance and go UTR, while cultivating a relationship with an outcast on your tribe that you can trust (ideally an older or unathletic woman). Hedge your bets early by doing this with as many of the outcasts as possible, so that a. you have a chance of flipping into a better position if you need to and b. you have a guaranteed ally for the post-merge. You want to go into the merge with your tribe in a slight majority, so that your two person voting bloc can become the swing votes (and hence the authors of the boot list). This isn't original by any means, but there are few examples of it actually happening. I know Kos prefers one person acting as a swing vote, but two people seems better.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

So I am reading the latest edition of All In Magazine which has the title "Bellande Ambition" and a smug picture of Jean-Robert Bellande on the cover

One passage struck me in particular. I marked all the interesting parts:

Quote:
In 2009, [Bellande] was certain he was going to get a second chance in Survivor. Survivor was putting together an all-star season entitled Heroes vs. Villains, and having played the latter role memorably in China, Bellande was invited back. He was all set to return, with the knowledge that it's that second season that turns you into a bona fide reality star. That would have significantly increased his value for poker sponsorship deals or fast-tracked him to new opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Then Bellande ran into a one-outer on the river. A diabolical, diminutive soundbyte machine from Texas named Russell Hantz was stealing the show on Survivor: Samoa, which was airing just as Heroes vs. Villains was about to start shooting. The producers made a last-second decision: Russell is in, Jean-Robert is out.

"It could have been the biggest opportunity in my life - maybe I am going to win the show, who knows?" Bellande said, "These are the little things that, I just don't understand why I run bad in spots like that."
I laughed pretty hard after reading this. I could have sworn that Shane was the alternate for HvV that got jobbed.

What does everyone else think about this article?

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

FWIW, my power rankings were:

1. Sash
2. Benry
3. Brenda
4. Chase
5. Marty

I tried to sit through her CBS clip from yesterday, and I literally made it about ten seconds before I had to shut it off. She seems like a nice girl, but she's completely brain-dead and boring. I usually like ditzy girls, but she's not really even ditzy; she's just...nothing. Good thing she's hot.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

I still don't understand why everyone is putting Benry so high

He is outside the core young group of 5, has been the second most invisible person on this season outside KellyS, is only shown to be legitimately close with Chase and Fabio, and he is a big, physical immunity threat to others if he makes it to the merge (judging from his challenge dominance so far)

I would personally lump him in the middle of the pack with Fabio for now

BTW my top 5 are:
1. Brenda
2. Chase
3. Sash
4. Jill
5. Marty

not to mention Benry just got his first confessionals of the season.

And how long has it been since Sash got a confessional?

Im watching FvF right now and im starting ep 6 and Natalie hasn't been shown at all. She went pretty deep in the game too. So imo it doesnt matter about air time at the beginning as long as your in a good alliance you can make it deep

But he's not in any alliance, just friends with Chase/Fabio and outside the circle of trust of the core young 5 besides Chase
