Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

My bad guys, I went overboard with the amount and most of them were by request over at sucks (ex: holly staring into the ocean, brenda smiling, jimmy T spazzing, kelly not being invisible)

Unfortunately there is just no T&A video available in any episodes. KellyS is invisible and Yve barely gets any screen time herself. From now on I will only include the absolutely hilarious ones (Marty/Tyrone)

Thanks for linking them RayPowers

Sometimes I have too much time on my hands and I think should possibly exclude myself from this thread for some time. I will be making more personalized avatars from these new batch of gifs for retribution

Sorry for the temporarily hectic load time

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Tyson acted like a dumb little ***** on Rob C's podcast. You knew in your heart Russell was giving up that night? Really? You thought there was no way he'd come back yet you just said you had to convince Jerry to vote with you guys? You got outplayed bro. Voting Parv when you knew the plan was full proof is indefensible.

Tyson then said that he wanted Parv gone way more than Russell. Well if he knew Russell had an idol why not keep the vote the same. From my point of view, Russell would not give away an idol. So with that said don't you keep your vote the same, Russell plays the idol for himself and the revote gets Parvati out.

He wasn't defending the play, and he's obv wrong about russell giving up. he admitted he should have just stayed with what his alliance wanted to do. He certainly didn't act dumb or like a "*****."

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

He tried to rationalize it, which counts as defending in my book. Everyone knows what he did was wrong, that's not the issue. He made excuses why it could have been the right play at the time and how Russell was a non factor in the game since everyone disliked him. Saying "I truly believed Russell had given up when he gave parv the idol" was a dumb ***** thing to say after he soul crushed you.

lol@soulcrushing. Is that what we are calling a bad play that randomly works out?

Tyson's play may have been worse, but Russell's was certainly bad.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

can we please keep discussion of s20 strategy (particularly where russell is concerned, either directly or indirectly) in the Heroes v Villains thread? both sides have very vocal and prolific posters whose opinions will not be changed by this discussion and i'd like to keep the thread derailment that often diminished my enjoyment of that thread out of this one.

thanks!

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

The more old seasons I watch, the more convinced I am that Survivor is actually pretty good at casting black women. There are more reasonable black women than unreasonable ones. Nay is closer to the exception than the rule.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Really? Alicia, Ghandia, Sherea, Yasmin, NaOnka are all examples of the classic stereotype being snapped up by the casting directors. Then again, in the two racistban seasons they managed to find such stars as Sundra and Cassandra, not to mention Stephannie and Rebecca. Remember these guys? I know most of us do, but we're in a minority (cwatididthar?) among Survivor fans. Cirie (and I guess Vecepia?) is really the only example of a black woman on the show who wasn't either visible for the wrong reasons or invisible for no reason.

Yeah that was a kneejerk reaction. It did seem amazing til I took some time to really think about it. The fact that he knew the vote was supposed to be split means giving the idol to Parvati was him banking on someone giving up on a plan that was a lock for basically no gain.

To be fair, Tyson made his play b/c of how stupid Russell's play would be. Tyson would only go home if a very smart man made a very bad play, and that happened. Same with Russell. His play only works if a smart player makes a dumb play. So Tyson went home b/c 2 smart players made stupid plays. Pretty freaking random.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Meh. Say he switches his vote to Parv and keeps his idol. At the next TC, Rob engineers a split vote between Russell and Danielle. Russell and Danielle vote for each other, and Russ is forced to use his idol. The TC after that, Russell goes. If he votes out Parv, Danielle will get away from him as fast as possible, Jerri doesn't flip, Coach can't help him, Sandra and Courtney are two of Rob's closest allies and so aren't defecting anyway, and Tyson would be making a mistake of similar magnitude to his actual one to leave his spot as #2 in the dominant alliance to team up with the tribe's leper. Russell has to make a high risk high reward play to survive in the long-term. I know you think he made a mistake aligning with Parv in the first place, but consider his situation at the beginning of the game. As an unknown quantity who could potentially pose a threat to Rob, Russell is going to be an early target anyway (I think the boot order actually remains the same as in the scenario where Russell doesn't play his idol: Parv goes first, then Danielle for being Parv's ally and on the outside of the tribe, then Russell). In addition, Rob's reputation is such that any given player is more likely to want to align with Rob than with an unknown like Russell. If he wants them as his allies, Parv and anyone aligned with her are bound to him out of necessity.

Essentially, Russell has to weigh the risk of his high variance play not succeeding vs. the likelihood that the Villains only lose one more challenge before the merge. Let's say that happens (with Danielle being voted out at that TC, with Russell's idol burned). I'm not sure who the Heroes would boot, but I don't think it really matters.

Yin Yang is 3 assorted Heroes + Rob/Tyson/Coach/Jerri/Sandra/Courtney/Russell

Can Russell ever make it to F3 in this position? The Villains boot whichever remaining Hero is most likely to win ICs, and then turn on themselves. Russell's only hope is to convince one of the Villain pairs to flip, but Coach sees Rob as warriordragonsamurairawr and Sandra/Courtney hate Russell's guts (and Tyson needs Rob around since Tyson automatically gets booted immediately after Rob).

@ whichever guy complained about HvV discussion: HvV had some of the most interesting decisions in the show's history, and so far there hasn't been anything of comparable depth in Nicaragua. If you can suggest a better topic for the downtime I'd be eager to hear it.

oh, this is definitely true. but you have to admit that the other thread got very frustrating with the pro- and anti-russellites squaring off against each other and never backing down. i'm afraid that this thread will turn into the same thing, where people start turning these debates into personal attacks rather than discussing the strategy with an open mind.

i'm just suggesting that perhaps discussion about last season's strategy can be kept to last season's thread. but whatever, if it's just me, i'll shut up.

The anti-russellites were largely in the minority and most of them were trolls like FrankieBigNuts who would flame and hit-n-run

HvV was an awesome season with some of the most interesting players Survivor has ever had. The dropoff from that season to Nicaragua in terms of viewers and discussion is quite noticeable. This place is a ghost town friday to tuesday.

Nothing wrong with discussion other seasons in the down time imo. Not like its interrupting any meaningful Nicaragua discussion

this has to do with the fact that so many of the survivors have played the game before and almost of them know each other.

Jimmy T actually seems pretty personable in the interview with Rob C. If he truly got as little sleep as he claims to then i can sympathize with him losing his mind out there. i seldom think about how much the ****ty sleep conditions affect the players personalities, but it's certainly got to be a major factor in so many people losing their minds on the show.
