Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
Cool, I just finished S1 and am starting on S2 atm. Feel free to chat about anything you see, I really enjoy reading other people's thoughts as I go through the old seasons.
-Season 1 was a lot better than I expected. But still the show was very underdeveloped compared to what it is now.
-lol at Bryant Gumbel hosting the reunion.
I was too young to remember at the time, but was the initial season of Survivor like huge in it's time? I'm just imagining some exec was like, "this Survivor aftershow is going to be a huge for ratings, let's put Gumbel on that sh**."
-lol at Chet, prob going to rewatch that episode again before I start on S2.
Like I said in the other thread, I still think Joel is the dumbest contestant I've seen yet.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
yeah it was pretty huge at the time. i should double check this before posting, but i believe it won it's time slot handily pretty much every week and i know lots of local news shows referenced survivor parties(similiar to what most local news shows were doing recently during Lost's finale) during the finale which was the second most watched program of the year behind the super bowl.
on that note, how many of us have been watching since the beginning? i did watch s1 as it aired, but i missed a couple seasons that i had to watch later
eta: Bryant Gumbel >>> Rosie as finale host.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
How have the ratings trended since the beginning? It's still gotta be doing pretty good to be renewed for S23 and S24, as well as competing with American Idol, right?
Anyone speculate on how many seasons it'll go? 30? 40?
Gotta have enough so I can eventually get on and win

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
I don't think Survivor ever lost it's timeslot when it was on Thursday unless it was up against a major sporting event. Then they made the brilliant move of putting it up against American Idol. I guess this season was the best to try it since Simon left, but still seems unbelievably stupid to me.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
American Idol is losing it's steam iyam.
Survivor is a genius enough show that I think it'll stick around for a long time, like VM said above. The worst thing I can see coming is Probst leaving :[

Yeah I've seen articles about Colby taking over (hence his hosting Top Shot) when Probst is done. Idk how I feel about it though (Huge Colby fan in game)

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
How do you suppose the best way to get cast is?
From what I understand, there are a few ways to get on:
- random casting video tapes sent in
- go to casting call as an aspiring model/actor in Cali
- be entertaining enough that they seek you out
It seems like submitting a pretty funny and well-edited video that shows you in an entertaining form has to put you at the top couple of percent of people for that method. I remember watching some user-submitted videos a while ago and most were pieces of ****.
So, submit a good tape and maybe go to a casting call saying you're an actor/model looking for work has to put you ahead of 97% of entrants, right?
Oh well, one can dream

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
How well does Colby host on Top Shot? I've been meaning to check it out just to see him because I also read about him maybe taking over, but I just figured a show about shooting guns would be far to dull to watch.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
I only watched the first episode. He seemed a little stiff and short, but I think with time he could be fine. Jeff wasn't great at the start either.

hes okay and the show is okay. theres nothing he really adds. not much strategy to the game so his hosting work is more of what you see from jeff in immunity challenges. not sure how hed do as a replacement.

Haha yeah it's amazing. I actually thought about sending in an application rather last minute, then saw this video somewhere and figured I couldn't make anything close to that on short notice and said forget about it lol
He's way underrated as a player too. He really brought the lolz. Here's a link to his entry in the funny 115:

I remember him being a funny guy, but didn't realize just how funny he was until watching that tape and reading that link.
This made me lol like 10 times in a row.

That's just blind optimism. If people stop watching, the show will go off the air.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivo...vision_ratings
The ratings have trended downward fairly steadily since the show premiered, but over the past ten years, network programming itself has slowly trended downward also. The ratings and relatively low cost of the show still justify snap-renewal on the part of CBS, but I definitely think it'll be taken off the air eventually.
I thought about this the other day, though... One of the great byproducts of how much money Survivor has made for CBS is that it's a lock to someday be revived after its initial run ends.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
Getting through Amazon. I know Jenna wins, so I was excited to see how she played and can't really understand wtf she's doing here. You get a night stay with someone from the guy tribe and she instantly starts explaining every little detail about her tribe and their alliances? wtf.
edit: loool then it's a tribe switch and Dave snap says Heidi. Good job Jenna.

Unbelievable that people have actually made mistakes and gone on to win the game, isn't it?

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
Rob C just dominated that season and anybody but him winning would've made a bad winner. Jenna benefited from others self destructing and her not ever being the biggest threat.

It's not a lock to be a mistake. IIRC Jenna and Heidi were at the bottom of the totem pole in their tribe. Maybe she thought a merge was coming up and wanted to warm up to Dave to try to get post-merge numbers.
I'm not at all saying this is what happened, just saying there are other possibilities besides blind error.
