Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Drinking game. Every time Russell Heinz refers to himself in the third person drink. Drink 3 if he includes 'Russell Hantz' and 'Greatest of all time' in the same sentence.

Drink everytime Boston Rob refers to Amber or how lazy his tribe is. Also drink if either Rob or Russell refer to the other one. Am I missing anything?

I love that anti-Russell people refuse to credit Russell with this move. I'm not saying you're a hater or anything, I just find it funny that people say EVERYTHING that went Russell's way (Tyson vote, finding idols, etc.) was luck. I'll give you the JT idol; Russell played up the "save me" thing, but it was JT's idea. However, not giving him credit for the Tyson thing is unfair. He went to Tyson and told him he was voting for Parvati in an effort to get Tyson to switch his vote. He obviously assumed Tyson would, too, or he wouldn't have given the idol to Parvati. I know Tyson likes to say it was Russell trying to go out heroically, but it would have made him look ******ed, not heroic. Plus, Russell is the most selfish player ever. Do people really think he was happy going out so Parvati could stay? Tyson is just trying to come up with an excuse for why he did what he did, and it's a lame one.

russel talked to tyson though and baited him into switching his vote into parvarti. he also voted out coach to make it seem like there was a girl alliance(not his main reason but he knew the possibilities that he could exploit becuase of it). it wasnt dumb luck that those things happened. he played amazingly well in each spot.

One other thing: Boston Rob should be bashed HARDCORE for voting out Randy instead of Parvati. You can say he got unlucky with the Tyson thing, which is definitely true, but Russell is never able to regain control if Boston Rob boots Parvati right off the bat.

Russell finding Idols isn't luck. Playing up the JT thing is trival IMO. Onto Tyson. It doesn't matter what Russell/Parv/DD vote. If Tyson doesn't switch his vote Russell doesn't make the merge.

BTW im only a Russell 2.0 hater. I don't think he could of played any different in 19. He had the numbers and an easier way to FTC in 20 then in 19. If that makes sense at all.

I feel like Sandra is a big reason Coach was voted out when he was. Then again if Sandra doesn't win they might not even show those scenes, lol editing

Probst said that this time people will know in advance about redemption island, so I don't think you will see the same anti-outcast sentiment. Lord knows after season 8 it would have been hard to say a winner would ever win again.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

I don't think it's fair to refer to HvV Russel as Russel2.0 at all. He worked HvV with the assumption that he won Samoa, and tried to play the exact way. If he believed going into Samoa that jury members would be able to separate emotions from the game and award the player who has the strongest strategical game the million dollars, then that's still what he was believing in HvV and played accordingly. He didn't have the time to - nor a reason to believe he needed to - make adjustments.

For better or worse, we're going to see Russel2.0 in a month. Here's hoping he adjusts somewhat, but doesn't overdo it.

No way, voting out Randy was definitely the right move at the time. He was the weakest male by FAR, he was a smart thinking player, and he was against Boston Rob. No brainer for Rob to target Randy there.

Based on his comments in the early part of HvsV, I'm pretty sure he knew he had lost Samoa.

It is tough to play the same way when you are facing completely different scenarios. In 19 he was down 4-8 and had to work to get the numbers back. In HvV they didn't merge until 10 and it was 5-5 but he had the idol (From JT) and easily got the numbers.

He had to make bold plays and say bold things to get further in 19. In HvV he didn't have to.

He was down 6-3 pre-merge, did the Tyson thing, then got Jerri to flip without any real incentive for her to do so.

The way Russell played pre merge was good. But I am talking about post merge, which is far more important and really where you need to be careful.

So you're punishing him for going into the merge 5-5 with two idols in his tribe's possession? It seems like you're saying he didn't overcome big odds post-merge, therefore he didn't play as well. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

I am saying there is no reason to make these bold moves and be this abrasive when your in charge post merge. It was going to be tough for him to win in 19, but it was impossible in 20. Why is that? Because he needed to do this to get to the end in 19 and there was no need to do so in 20.

And if you think of replying with that is who Russell is, you understand he is an incomplete player with virtually no shot to win the game. Definitely not even close to the greatest of all time. He might make the top 10.

When it comes to awesome TV he is maybe #2 behind Coach. He might be GOAT at Sprint POY.

Can you clarify what "bold moves" you're referring to that were unnecessary? I'm not sure which moves you're considering to be mistakes.

I guess my feeling is that, if you're controlling the votes the way he was, it's hard to bash the strategy when it's what got him to the finals. His personality, not his strategy, is why he lost.

Have I ever said any different? His personality doesn't take away from the fact that he's a truly incredibly strategist. And guess what: every player (other than maybe Cesternino) is flawed in some way...even Boston Rob!
