Yul's probably better, but we'll never know for sure. Hatch is also probably better, but again, it's hard to know.

I have to agree with Kart on this one. Fallon was pretty diplomatic and respectful with his comments. He didn't agree with the spite vote and wants to create some bastardized version of Survivor endgame voting, but he seemed respectful enough towards Sandra even if he didn't agree with the results.
I think my favorite part of the interview is how Parvarti, the one who was actually robbed, makes a sad face and pats Russell on the back about 'how much of a shame it was that he didn't win.' I actually respect that she doesn't continually cry about it. I suspect it's partly because she understands the game--or perhaps, people--better.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
which ever ? mark is Boston Rob, I pick that one to win.
Anyways, Ashley is the best looking imo. Steve has a chance to win the thing (same name as me so he gets a rooting interest there), Andrea lives close to me and we have some mutual friends, Russell Heinz will hopefully be a non factor just to bring him down a peg or two.
As of now, I will pick Steve to win.

Is it just me or are Andrea and Ashley the same exact person. For the first minute of their videos they say literally almost the same thing. I thought I accidentally clicked Andrea's video again while I was watching Ashley's.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
WTF, Grant Mattos is on this season? How weird. I remember seeing him play in college. I didn't recognize the other football guy, though. Does anyone know who that is?
I still hate the RI twist, but I guess I have no choice but to give it a chance. I think Russell will be out (completely, not just on RI) within the first four episodes, but it'd be great if he stuck around.

It will be interesting to see how he plays. He has his villain persona to live up to, but has to know that making it to the end is only half of the game and winning it is the other half.
It will also be interesting to see if he even gets the chance to play a different strategy. If Russell does get a good game going and resorts to his old way of playing it will prove the guy is just a jack ass in real life.
Kos, what do you think the best way to play this game is if you are Russell?

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
Russell is in a much tougher spot than Rob because there is no real reason to keep Russell around. Rob is at least a challenge beast, so there's no reason to vote him off immediately, but why would anyone keep Russell? Even if he can get you to the end, you run the risk of having "the Russell stink" on you when you get there.
That being said, maybe four episodes was too few. The tribes are split 9-9, which helps him tremendously, as he only needs four people on his side. I think he's likely to go out very quickly, but I could absolutely see a scenario where he gathers up the necessary votes and gains the advantage. I mean, love him or hate him, he's really good at manipulating people into thinking that aligning with him is good for them.
In Russell's shoes, I think I'd go in there and just play a completely different game at the beginning. I'd tell my tribe, "I know you probably want me out, but I can't win the way I played before." I'd remind them I (twice!) took my allies from a trememdous early disadvantage to the endgame, emphasizing the point that I could get them far, but I'd take a much more passive pre-merge approach. If I made it past ~6 votes, I'd then revert back to Same Old Russell that controls every vote. Again, his strategy isn't the reason he loses, it's his personality, so the only strategic change he needs to make is to find a way to sneak through the early votes. The significant change he needs to make, though, is to be more likable. Maybe that's not possible for him, but he's not going to win playing a "backseat game" like so many people want him to play. He needs to just not be a dick, get to the end of the game the same way, and hope for a forgiving and/or strategy-loving jury.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
Russell played awful on HvV imo because he didn't have to be so mean. He had the advantage and blew that one. to his credit though he thought he won in Samoa so just wanted to play the same way.
I think that when/if Russell is on Redemption Island the challenges will be something tailored to him to win. Same if Rob gets there.
I also want to see what Russell looks like. On Day one in Samoa the guy was flat out a fat ass. He lost so much weight with the 78 days he played. He looked skinner at the Samoa reunion but seemed to be putting the weight back on at HvV reunion.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua
I can't fathom getting him out of there early. He was able to take a tribe of 4 from down 8-4 to being 4 of the final 5. Add in the fact that the chances of him winning due to his personality and people's perception of him are extremely small it seems like there's no downside to keeping him around, benefiting from how good he is strategically, and making it deep with essentially dead money.
Of course, you do run the risk of getting the "Russel stink" on you like somebody else mentioned. I could easily see the rest of the tribe just saying some form of "we know what you're capable of doing, and we're going to rid ourselves of you before you get a foothold on this game". I'm just saying I don't think that'd be my strategy.
Regardless, it's going to bring an interesting dynamic. Can't wait.

It is a Wednesday.
BTW whoever makes the $22 thread should have a poll of Team Boston Rob and Team Russell Heinz

I think keeping Russell around later than earlier is better. I would want him gone right away, but if he is gonna be a jack ass again as we get later in the game, he is better to keep around.
It will be interesting if there is a Tribe switch. If there is, we obviously have no idea how far B. Rob and Russell can make it. I think that if there isn't, if Rob and Russell make it close to the merge they will be tough to vote out and it would be awesome for them to team up and go to the F3. Hopefully there is a F2 and it is them two.

I think this is the disconnect. Russell doesn't play mean; that's just Russell. Telling Russell to be nice is like telling Sandra to be good at challenges. I don't think either can be "corrected." The issue Russell has is that, for whatever reason, he is not likable to the people out there. You can be somewhat mean but still be likable...I mean, Russell is America's favorite player right now, so it's not as if he's an unlikable guy.
I think Russell's problem is that he is too openly okay with being that emotion-less. In other words, you can get away with being a huge douche as long as you try to hide it and/or pretend to be a normal person. Dr. Will is a great example of a guy who is somewhat douchey and completely emotion-less inside the game, but he pretends to actually give a **** about the people he's playing with. Russell, on the other hand, makes absolutely no attempt at actually building relationships (even phony ones), so they know he doesn't care that he stabs them in the back. You have to at least pretend that you're conflicted with the decision to oust someone.
