Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

i dont think they went out of there way to show chase was weak. i Think he was weak for sure. They also have to show him being weak or the show just doesnt make sense. He was a key vote in a lot of the spots. I dont think the editors went out of there way to show chase was a idiot to make the vote for fabio make sense. I think the editors showed that chase was a wishy washy weak guy and fabio was a likable guy and thats why he won. I believe the editing to be true to what type of people they are for the most part.

So you're saying that this season was bad because of the fact that Fabio won, and therefore the editors were forced to paint him better than he was and the runners up worse than they were.

1. Why does Fabio winning make it a bad season? He's a likable, good looking young kid.

2. How are you aware what really happened out there so that you know that what we saw was a pushed, extreme version of Chase being wishy washy and Sash being a snake? We don't know. It is equally likely that Chase was actually a bigger idiot than how they portrayed him, and they gave him a good edit so that people would root for him in the finale and to justify how he got 4 votes. We have no clue, so really to me there is no value in discussing how things might have really been out there.

3. FWIW I actually don't think they gave Chase a bad edit. He was always shown as well liked by the other tribes mates, and got plenty of hero edit points with his dad sob story, the way he consoled NaOnka, etc. I also think that Sash wasn't really given a bad guy edit until the last couple of episodes.

Exactly. And that doesn't make us gullible idiots. We have no evidence to the contrary. We can hypothetically argue all day whether Chase was less or more stupid than how he was portrayed, but it just seems dumb and pointless to me since there's just nothing there to argue one way or the other. Boc thinks the center of the earth is made of caramel. Great. I think it's chocolate. That was fun. Now what?

Forget that mumbling idiot Chase, you guys are all forgetting the fact that Sash wins if Jane doesn't drop a bombshell at TC about him attempting to bribe her for her vote and thus sabotaging the jury against him in the process (whether that's true or not, who knows?)

Because of legal reasons, all of that was heavily edited out of TC, Ponderosa, etc. and each of the survivors present were forced on a vow of secrecy on the subject (I know Jane was dying to discuss it during her podcast and interviews, but couldn't)

But it was Sash's choice to make the speculated bribe to Jane. That is a move in the game and costed him. He does win if he doesn't do this but it was a move he made in his game that affected his game.

I really doubt Sash wins in that scenario. People just hated him.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Just got an Apple TV, making it incredibly easy to watch YouTube on my TV, so the wife and I decided to get our Survivor fix by starting at the beginning with $1. I've seen every season as they originally aired, but she didn't start watching until we met about five years ago. So, for me, it will be fun to re-watch, and these first 10 or so seasons are brand new (and un-spoiled) to her.

Thoughts on $1...

*I have been a Hatch fanboi, but I'm less impressed after re-watching the season. It's probably because he didn't HAVE to do much besides totally basic strategy, but he now seems like any other decent strategic player.
* Holy **** were some of those people just so god damn awful. Bitching and moaning about the immorality of an alliance? I know that this was a new game to everyone, but holy Christ.
* Production is LOL. It's like a high school video club wanted to spoof the current Survivor.
* The entire feel of the episodes is different. It was 30 minutes of "real survival" (catching fish, building camp, etc), then an immunity challenge and pretty much straight to tribal council where Probst threw a few softballs and everybody voted.
* Probst isn't quite into his grove, which is to be expected. But there's no "play-by-play" during the challenges, and he doesn't have "it" yet at tribal council. Although he did ask Sue straight up one time "Is there an alliance?", and Sue and Rich went nuts on him in confessionals afterwards for having the balls to ask such a question. So for those of you who think he's just now starting to meddle, he's always done it.
* Only 16 contestants, which makes the tribes get shorthanded way too quickly. I'm glad they moved to 18 and 20.

All in all, fun to re-watch how it all started, but this season doesn't hold up well.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

I only seen from Palau - Nicaragua, so Im really looking forward to watching from the beginning. I went on a big kick last year when my friend recommended Samoa to me, and since then have been working backwards (rather than forwards so that I could learn about everyone on HvV). Your post worries me though, as starting from the beginning and working forwards would have been alright from a production standpoint but moving backwards may make it less enjoyable.

Gonna watch Vanuatu soon, then start back at 1 with the grand finale being what countless people have told me is the best season in All Stars.

When does s22 begin airing?

Countless people have told you that All-Stars is the best season? Really?

What you're going to notice going back through the seasons is that there are several distinct "eras" for the show. It's simply a completely different show today than it was in Season 1. The season-to-season changes have mostly been very subtle, but the total of the changes is massive.

Yea, when I first discovered the show and asked people on some other websites which seasons were the best ( HvV had not started yet) the responses were mostly All Stars and then some for Samoa, FvF,and China.

I do have to say seeing the changes in reverse has been pretty entertaining as well though.

Yeah, that was the hands down most recommended season from prior to All Stars. I would imagine that the Amazon location would be the best for the game of Survivor by a significant margin.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Since we've got some downtime anyways between seasons and Ive mentioned some older seasons already, is it general consensus among big survivor fans that Bob from Gabon was the most unlikely winner ever? Please do me a favor and if there was one ever more unlikely and it was pre vanuatu plz just say he wasnt but dont spoil exactly who.

Unlikely based on pre-game expectations or unlikely based on the lowest "win expectation" point during the game?

I guess for each?

I know that when they lined up for their schoolyard picking of teams, I figured his chance of winning was extremely small (and I only say a nonzero number because I know the result).

I guess that once it got going and things shook out the way they did with Kenny/Sugar/etc taking a solid hold on the game and Bobs personality theres prolly someone who was more out of nowhere at that point in a previous season though.

Based on pre-game expectations, possibly. Based on making the biggest comeback, no.

Well the whole Kota Onion alliance did get decimated after the merge, so in that sense you wouldn't have expected Bob to win when it was down to like the F6 or so, whenever it was all Fang + Bob (+ Susie I guess, but she was basically a Fang member).

There's another winner who came from a similar postmerge spot as Bob though, who I would definitely consider the best comeback and probably my favorite winner. Dunno how to really say anything else without spoiling, but if you've seen this particular season, it shouldn't be too tough to figure out.

Season 16 and season 19 winner names inside the spoilers.
Spoiler:

I don't feel a problem saying winner names from season 16+, but if anyone thinks I should stop, just say so. Everyone ITT should just go and watch all the seasons immediately. How does that sound?

Edit:added spoiler tag

Was it before or after Palau? If after I think I know who you're talking about, but I'm guessing it must be before as the person I'm thinking of being the "favorite" winner seems strange.

Yeah, the "and finally" person from the spoiler list is probably at the top of the list. Probably tops the "least deserved" one as well.

Chase definately gave them ample material to make him look like an idiot, so I back your first sentence. However, he was an integral character in every alliance and sub alliance he was a part of and I think his bonehead footage may have overshadowed a lot of the things he did well in the game. Chase seems a very nice guy with a big heart, I don't think any amount of including his alleged better moments in the edit would have won over a lot of the 2+2 followers. He's too soft for the bulk of this crowd.

Cliffs: I suspect Chase could have been painted in a more favorable light, but I also suspect it wouldn't have mattered much to this particular viewership.

Regarding the bolded: Everyone wanted Colby out nearing the end of HvV and Brett out near the end of Samoa (because they thought they would win in front of the jury). There is generally ongoing debate about what constitutes a deserving or undeserving winner. In reality, we are pehaps more appropriately saying whether we personally can respect the game a player played.
