Yeah, there's two scenes I'm interested in from Samoa. I'll shoot you a PM when I wake up from my slumber.

It was looking like there might not be time for me to even make it to the front of the line, so I decided to bail so I could meet Rupert, who was also at the mall that day.

Never got the film developed of my picture with Rupert, but I still have it. Maybe one of these days I'll get it processed so I can relive that glorious afternoon.
I wonder how many people they actually get from the general population. It seems like that the majority of the players haven't even seen survivor before which is beyond ridiculous.

congrats boc, sick brag.

to players ITT applying for future seasons if you are a full-time poker player....i think the best strategy regarding your occupation would be to tell everyone in game that you're an investment banker or something of the like so that you're not immediately marked as cold, calculating, and lazy (since the perception of an online poker player would be exactly that to some random survivor contestant).

also to avoid the inevitable 'but how much did you lose?"

besides knowing kirby is a beat at MTTs from the great white north, and that kart was at a ME feature table thus played the ME, and that boc is supernova, i'd be very curious about all the posters ITT and their actual poker playing

I play all the limit games, primarily LHE though. This was my 3rd year shooting for elite, but first time actually making it.

I'm totally exhausted from the grind, earned over 600k VPPs the last 5 months of the year. Also proud to say that I'm one of the SNEs who turns a profit pre-RB

I was thinking of various different occupations I could list, and investment banker was one of the options. Ultimately I think I would just tell them I recently finished school with a degree and have not gotten my ideal job lined up yet.

The negative (justified or not) stigma surrounding an occupation of Online Poker Player is just too much I think. The "cold, calculating, and lazy" perception would be some players opinions like you said - which has obvious negativity towards the goal of winning -, but it probably goes even further than that. Our comfort level in games of incomplete information and our greater understanding of EV than the average contestant would also be viewed as strengths. These obvious strengths noticed by intelligent opponents coupled with the negative perception from the average/below average ones would result in a huge target on our backs before we even opened our mouths.

I don't know if I would use my actual field of study (Psychology, lol useless degrees) when telling them I just graduated either; There are obvious strengths associated with "knowledge" in that area and negative perception from the average person as well (manipulative).

Also, if I had to hear bad beat stories of how contestant #2 once played online and lost with AK to AQ so its obv rigged I'd end up killing someone out there.

You're a sicko man. Congrats! How does SNE work in regards to maintaining it next year? You don't have to put in mega sick volume in the first couple months do you?

It expires at the end of September, and you have to earn 50k VPPs a month to keep the status next year, you get one grace period of under 50k VPPs month. Kind of ****** that they'll yank the status from you so easily the next year, but 50k VPPs a month isn't really that hard to keep up if you're playing fulltime.

As for the casting discussion going on...

What you guys fail to realize is that for the most part, the best television is provided by people who don't know the show/game well. Those who have watched 21 seasons know that some of the best attributes you can bring to the game are to be friendly and avoid conflict. A season full of players doing that would be horribly boring on TV. The people behind the casting of the show definitely go out of their way to try to find people who have never seen the show, or don't watch it regularly.

I understand that people think this is ********, and that superfans think they want to see other superfans on the show. But I really think you're wrong. Expert Survivor play tends to be the opposite of "good television"

Oh yeah, telling people you play poker for a living would be a disaster. I think the average person just assumes a poker player is either filthy rich or a completely broke degenerate. There is no middle ground in their minds.

I disagree with the banker thing, though. I wouldn't tell the other people I play poker for a living, so why would I make up a lie that makes me sound equally wealthy? I would either use "I work in a boring office" with the implication that I don't make enough money, or (depending on the players) I'd consider using an "I'm poor and/or recently jobless" angle. There's really no reason to ever tell anyone that you are even remotely financially stable imo.

im a supernova on stars and specialize mainly in PLO and a few tournies here and there (part time)

being a college student, I also dabble in live poker when I drive down to AC to play some 1/2 or 2/5 NL (mainly at the Borgata)

anyone else head down to AC often?

I mostly grind MTTs pretty much everyday, but lately I've been playing STT super turbos working off a bonus. Also been flirting with 10-game heads up. Been fun.

I grinded low-midstakes from late 2009-now, but am planning on playing more SNGs in 2011 in an effort to achieve SN for the first time.

gl guys. itd be awesome if someone from here got on. i think itd be a terrible idea to say you are a investment banker. you are going to be out there for 39 days. you dont want to be stuck in elaborate lies about your job. if you lie. make sure its an ez one that wont be questioned a lot. obviously somehting that doesnt make much. if one of us does get on we need to have a code. try to get a early confessional thats like "these people are so dumb they cant add 2 plus 2'. maybe not something too bad. dont want to come off as a villain. needs to be something that would get on the show though.

what i mean is that when you apply for the show i think you should definitely say you are a professional poker player (especially if you come across as personable, witty etc in your video/interview) because its gotta be a great profession for the producers to cast.

just lie on the island - see: Russell, Gary Hogeboom, etc - to avoid the stigmas. maybe an investment banker isn't the ideal job to use (it was just one that came to mind). maybe just say 'i work this boring dead-end marketing job' or something believable. telling everyone that you're 'unemployed, homeless' would be a bad angle as well since people will want to find a way to vote you off on the basis of possibly getting sympathy votes at FTC.

Oh, there shouldn't be any reason whatsoever to lie on the application about the occupation. I was discussing strictly from a once Im there standpoint. No need to play up an 'unemployed, homeless' angle either. There's definitely a ton of options to use that are not too difficult to come up with which would work.

As for the guy talking about codes or something, I don't think that'd be necessary. I would imagine once the cast list is spoiled - which occurs prior to the airing - you'd be allowed to say "My name is Xxxx and Im on this season". If for some reason that's not the case, if my avatar ever becomes survivor-related, it means I made it lol.

{raising hand} Microdonk. Probably minus the donk, to be fair. I can beat people if they are bad enough.
