No worries, I only faux fight. I just took a swing at KOS in my last post, but I mean him no malice. He's actually a favorite. So is Kart for that matter. They probably don't like being on that list together, but my tastes are varied.

It's pretty standard for any random season to be populated with maybe one guy who plays the game in a way you can respect. Then, from a shear numbers perspective it's hard for that guy to overcome the masses and win. His task is made that much more difficult when he's either an @$$hole or he does a very good impersonation of one. And, no offense, but you seem to be drawn to players who are widely percieved as jerks (which might not be a big deal if they didn't have to win votes from the people they play with, but they do.) So all of these obstacles keep piling up for your guy, and you have a hard time enjoying the season if your guy doesn't take the win. Seems like a recipe for constant frustration.

Now back to the beginning. During China, pretty much the whole time, I was thinking, "Todd is going to win this unless they vote him out." So, as the game wound down, every week I found myself thinking, "Okay, they are going to vote Todd out now... Now... Now..." but it never happened, and Todd won. I admit, I'm having some deja vu, EXCEPT Brenda is no Amanda so I'm hoping things might be a little more interesting this time around. Anyway, the moral of this story is that it's fairly standard for Survivors--even grown up non-third-grade Survivors--to NOT do what is in their best interests. It's generally because they don't know what their best interests are until it's too late. But it's standard. What show have you been watching all these years?

Re Brenda's comments about Jane vs. Naonka: I'd have to call BS if Brenda tried to say that taking Jane to the end sounded more attractive to your average bear than taking Naonka. What Brenda said makes perfect theoretical sense. The question was a trip wire. I thought she handled it okay. If I was going to put someone on edge about my loyalty to her, I'd certainly rather it be Jane (because Marty has a point and everyone surely knows it) than Naonka (who is crazy and has an immunity idol). Besides, it was okay for Brenda the same way it was okay for Marty, and Brenda was much more diplomatic about it. Brenda needs someone to be a target other than herself and Sash. Why not Jane? 'She will win the vote.' Why not Benry and Fabio and Chase? 'They might win IICs.' This stage is all about throwing other people under the bus.

Benry and Fabio were the same guys that were not in a very good position with Old La Flor, but were more than content to remerge right back into that same position instead of attempting to hook up with some old people following the tribe switch. Jane and Holly kicked that portion of the game's ass. The kids who were on the outs missed the boat.

Things can always change, but somebody is going to have to grow a pair in order to overthrow Sash and Brenda. I can't think of who it would be. The guy who I thought was capable of mounting a counter force was (finally) voted out.
Post of the season right here.

Edit: of course I am biased toward any post that puts Kos in his place, but this post said what I wanted to say but couldn't do without being a jerk.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

arrogance is a funny thing...i could gleefully watch players like tyson, russell and boston rob clamor on incessantly about how awesome and superior they are and I'd still enthusiastically root for them. then you have brenda and sash who have only been power-tripping to the camera for a couple of weeks now and i'm already ready for both to get snapped off. don't get me wrong, i'd chop off my left arm for the chance to even lick brenda's toes, but she's nowhere as good as she thinks she is (plus the entire cast is semi-******ed at best). Parv in 3 seasons had her social/charm game running on all cylinders 24/7, i think the only time she acted even a little bitchy to another competitor's face was with jonathan. Here with Brenda she is already seemingly alienating (even if it is slightly) people who are in her own alliance. If I was Chase, after that conversation with brenda, i'd definitely be looking to rally up by brainless trio of holly-jane-kelly and snap off brenda/sash the first chance it was safe to do so...but of course they won't.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

MY picks this week:

1. Sash - Everyone seems to like and want to play with Todd, I mean Sash.
2. Brenda - For me as a viewer it's close with Brenda and Sash, but I think Brenda has been a little more combatative with other players. It could end up hurting her.
3. Holly - She's my top floater pick. I think she's playing the game that she needs to play to give herself a chance.

I could happily stop my picks after 3, because I really don't like anyone else's chances, but if I must...
4. Chase - Ties with Brenda and Co. take him far enough to make an immunity run? Then, he gets a lot of old people votes?
5. Fabio - Immunity run and people like him.
6. Jane - I used to like her as a floater, but I think Marty may have succeeded in damaging her chances to get to the end enough that I had to drop her in the ranks considerably.
7. Benry - Immunity?
8. Kelly P - Based on her position in the game, I'd rank her a lot higher if I could remember what she looks like.
9. Dan - Again, not a ton of visibility for Dan and he is unlikely to gain enough simpathy votes over the tragic loss of his alligator shoes.
10. Naonka - I think her general position of FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU towards everyone might cost her a few votes.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

really good episode i thought. disappointed marty is gone. thought the challenges were real good. the immunity one was pretty accurate of how smart they all are. i guess brenda has control in the relationship with sash by how the vote went down tonight. seems like itd be much much better for sash to keep marty over jane. prevent a all girl alliance. brenda also seems closer to the jane, naonka side. while sash seems closer to benry, fabio, marty. so my power rankings would be

1 brenda
2 sash
3 kelly purple
4 fabio
5 holly

holly is playing a good under the radar strategy and was on the correct side of the vote. not sure if she is smart enough though to play correctly near the end. fabio was on the wrong side of it last night but he seems likable enough to have options. i dont really like brenda. but she has been deciding every vote and everyone else is dumb. kelly purple also utr and likable. could easily blind her way down to the final 3 and luck a vote.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

i think you could easily switch sash and brenda though. cause while brenda seems to have control of the relationship and making the decisions now. sash could also use his better relationships on the other side cause they will be need after ending up on the wrong side(fabio, benry, dan) and switch it up more easily if he didnt burn those bridges

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Anyone else getting annoyed with Probst? I really didn't like his comments about Naonka tonight, specifically the ones along the lines of "I can't believe you're still in the game. Someone must want to bring you along to final 3". He seems to be directly meddling in the game with such questions instead of being a (somewhat) disinterested host/observer.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

I disagree that voting off Marty was a mistake for Sash or Brenda. He is the only one they can't control except for possibly Nay. People talking about Benry orchestrating a flip makes no sense to me. Nay, on the other hand, will likely realize before it's too late that no one wants Sash or Brenda at FTC if they continue to run the game the way they have been.

Marty was an easy choice for Sash/Brenda. Powerplaying 101 calls for the removal of other power players asap.

The actual tribals go on for an hour or more. Usually when you hear a seemingly leading question like that it's at the end of a string of questions that led him to that. Every other time in the past where this has been suggested the player whom it seems it would hurt the most claims nothing unfair happened.

That being said, I think Probst is definitely past his prime.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Regarding the immunity challenge...maybe I missed something but am I accurate in thinking that they were shown 7 images and then asked to recount those images in the chronological order that they were shown? Now I will concede that I probably have a better memory than most, but I just can't fathom how with only 7 images you wouldn't be able to retain all 7 in chronological order. I mean the challenge should have at least asked them to recount the images in an order other than how they were shown, which would have made it slightly more reasonable.

It lasted 2 rounds. Making it any more difficult would've been pointless.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

WTF was Brenda thinking talking to Chase like that. I get that he's a pussy and probably won't ever vote against her but it seemed like she was begging him to switch sides or self destruct.

The Marty move was absolutely the correct move for Brenda and Sash. Marty had Fabs, Benry, and Dan. If they take out Jane then Holly might've jumped ship in order to save herself. Plus, not voting out Marty would've alienated Chase, Naonka, and KP.

We need a blindside soon. If Sash or Brenda get knocked out before final 4 then this season will be at least semi bearable.

Brenda seems to think Chase is incredibly dumb, incredibly loyal, and incredibly annoying to be around, yet she doesn't see him as a good ally. I am dumbfounded. I have absolutely no doubt that she is nowhere near as good at this game as Sash, but both of them are so arrogant and in the least entertaining/most irritating way ever. i am hopeful they somehow get upended and soon.

Really don't see how Benry (or Fabio if Benry wins II) isn't next though.

That was my first thought. Alternatively, maybe a storm came through and wrecked their shelter or it was burnt down or something?

Hopefully it's something more random like NaOnka and Fabio going at it.

Fabio is the only one left worth rooting for.

Marty was dumb and I'm glad he's gone. Total hard on for getting rid of Jane, trusted Brenda and Sash, didn't realize holly was actually the vote he needed ( and kelly p), just a bad player all season.

Re: Survivor: Nicaragua

Voting off Marty was fine. The biggest risk is some group of girls (Holly + Kelly P. + whoever) breaking off and turning on Brenda and Sash; and indeed, Jane said she would do this if Marty didn't go. Sash could have lobbied harder to keep him around, but it would have been unnecessary. Cultivating a working relationship with Marty got him an idol, more options, and a probably jury vote if he's up against Brenda and a non-Dan random. That's all he needed, and Sash correctly realized that cutting Marty loose now was +EV.

re. the immunity challenge: 7 items is super-easy. 10+ is where it starts getting difficult, but I wouldn't say it's legitimately tricky until you get to 12-14. I understand that being hungry, dehydrated, and paranoid for three weeks is going to affect your mental functions, but that challenge was a lock for anyone of above-average intelligence.

Kos: I don't get how anybody messed up the reward challenge. Firstly, Sash and Brenda, the two most important players. are on opposite teams, so everyone is going to be able to ingratiate themselves with one of them no matter what. The only reason you might want to swap with one of the losers is to get yourself in their good graces, but that's such a transparent ploy that any gain from it is going to be outweighed by the suspicion that everybody (particularly those that you didn't pick on the losing team) is going to feel towards you because of it. The only way switching is optimal is if everybody else is switching as well, which obviously is never going to happen.

Kart: How is Brenda better than Sash? She's probably second, but Sash is leagues above everybody. For example, telling Marty that it was Holly that wrote his name down, when Sash knows (and Marty should clearly have known, I mean wtf Marty) that it wasn't was brilliant. As has been mentioned, the only possible way anything could go wrong was for the girls + Marty/Fabio/Benry to team up. That was already unlikely, but turning Marty against Holly made that impossible.

P.S. Did anyone else notice that the producers put 'Purple Kelly' on her nametag in the IC? Why the aversion to just calling her Kelly?
