Conversation in last season's thread is starting to spill over, so it's officially time to kick off the Survivor Nicaragua thread!

Season Premiere: Wednesday, September 15th, 8:00pm

Yes, the show is now on Wednesday evenings, as this teaser photo of the contestants indicates:

Many exciting tidbits are slowly starting to be released:
  • This season will feature a battle of the ages: youngters (< 30 years old) on the La Flor tribe vs. old folks (40+ years old) on the Espada tribe
  • Hidden immunity idols will be back, but are apparently going to be much tougher to find
  • Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson is a contestant
  • CBS has a Survivor Facebook page with some photos
This thread-start doesn't have pictures/write-ups of the full cast, as I'm going to wait until something "official" is released on the CBS site. If you're so inclined, do so yourself, but be careful when doing so as I've heard spoilers already exist.

As usual, here is a friendly reminder: PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY SPOILERS IN THE THREAD.

Is Community still on Thursdays? Wednesday move might be a good thing. Can't remember what was on in that timeslot.

I'm pumped, but this season is going to be such a letdown after The Greatest Season In Television History last year. I think the old people are pretty much screwed unless the merge is super late (~F9). I'm sure a couple of them will sneak through, but I'll be surprised if they ever have the numbers before F5. Also, I can't wait to see what the "Russell Hantz rule" is that they created to make idols harder to find.

after having such a high level of competition last season (in terms of strategy and people not being total idiots), i'm hoping that the contestants this year are at least capable of understanding basic survivor strategy. it's always more interesting to watch people elevate their game when faced against good players.

i'm so in for this season. i like the concept of old vs young, but it probably means no challenges like "bring the ball back to your mat while opponent tries to murder you". if that link is the correct cast, it looks like the young ex linebacker and the old fireman/triathlete are going to have some epic battles.

The agro-kill challenges are wrong for this game, create a new season of American Gladiators for that action.

yeah they're fun to watch but they are way too dangerous and result in people getting pissed off and hating each other. i guess some would argue this is good but i don't think so.

Ugh this season is bound to fail imho. Every year they sneak in a few old people and almost all of them fail, and now they are doing a whole tribe?

I'm not a fan of the super aggro gladiator challenges either, but I think challenges should be a healthy combination of physical and mental. So either the challenges are gonna suck, or the old people are going down fast.

Good luck to the 56 year old female dog breeder. I'm sure she's in great shape running around chasing dogs every day.

I think the older tribe can probably compete better then you guys anticipate. They have mostly sucked at casting old people (Borasi, Gary, etc.. generally old decrepit women or fat guys). I think with older guys in fairly decent shape, especially in their early to mid 40's, they will definitely be able to compete with a lot of the young meatheads.

The problem isn't the in-shape people, it's the old, out-of-shape people that will slow them down. If you have one person who slows you down (ex. Borassi), it's easy to vote them out. However, if you have three people who slow you down, you have to get ALL THREE out before you can truly compete.

If you created a tribe full of the biggest challenge beats ever (Ozzy, Tyson, Colby 1.0, Tom 1.0, Boston Rob, etc.) and stuck Borassi, Cirie, and Willard on their tribe, they would struggle in a lot of challenges. They would excel any time they could sit people out or "shield" them, but in your basic team running/water challenges, they would suck. You're only as strong as the weakest link.

jimmy johnson wtf??? he's way more famous than anyone they've had before. seems crazy that they'd ever cast him, especially since he works NFL for FOX.
