Oh man, spoke too soon.

What happens in Spanish speaking cultures with all this bizarre pronoun ridiculousness? Isn't it standard practice to lump mixed groups of people with the masculine ending? And isn't there masculine AND feminine forms of 'they'. Seems problematic for those individuals who prefer to be plural, assuming the reasoning was to be encompassing of both genders. Previous comments are all rhetorical.

I enjoyed JD, but his tribe really missed an opportunity to dramatically improve the show by voting off Ricard. I may hold a grudge depending on how derailed the focus of the show continues to be. Any idea on why the one lady voted Ricard? Was that in case of Sara connecting on a hail mary? And whose idea was it?

I'm assuming the whole Brad misdirect was to prevent the hail mary, but it confused me that Ricard was on board for voting Sara out after he was so gung ho on targeting JD. Whole thing seemed a little fancy.

smh

"i hate being inclusive"

"sucks we aren't discriminating as much as we used to"

you realize that "guys" is one gender. that's it. that excludes a lot of people.

what is the downside of saying "come on in"? nothing. nothing is the downside

Based on the casting preview, I think EW, I strongly disliked Evvie. I was quite surprised on the premiere because she seemed like a great player and not dislikeable like the preview let me to believe.

No idea who Sydney is. Can't picture her (assume it's a her) right now.

JD was brutal. People's facial reactions when he was telling his story was cringe funny.

Should change it to "come on in gals"

Who cares.

World is so soft and people complain about everything. Just go with gals. If any of the guys care, they are losers. I guess maybe gals would offend the non-binary.

It's impossible to please everyone. Everyone has a voice these days and there's always complaints.

men are privileged. i hope that is clear to everyone.

things like using the word "guys" for everyone adds to disempowerment of women.

obv changing that isn't going to fix the problem. that's not the argument here.

but it's such an easy fix. it costs nothing. and it helps to be aware of the way we marginalize people

Best premier for me in ages.

After 3 months of Australian Survivor where the final two were rammed down my throat relentlessly at the expense of 19 purple kelly edits, it was so nice to see almost everyone actually get some content!

Really liking the look so far of
Liana
Shan
Evie
JD (as a character not as a player)

Fingers crossed for a female winner after getting 6 males in a row.

Oh and to the people now deciding to 'boycott' the show because its too woke.

Interesting how they powered on past
-Ted and Ghandia
-Hatch and Sue
-Boston Robs homophobia in marquesas
-Countless seasons of the only ethnic minority on the tribe being the 1st boot
-Rockys bullying of Anthony
-Wills bullying of Shirin
-Dan in season 39, and missy and Elizabeth using it as leverage to blindside Keelee
-The post season scandals involving the likes of Mike Skupin and Silas
-Many more I can't think of off the top of my head

But no, no longer saying 'guys' is the straw that has broke the camels back

I don't care whether it's "Come on in guys" or just "come on in"

But when a gay woman who gave up men because a bf insisted on using the correct pronunciation of "Budapest" says "come on in guys" is OK, I think that's evidence enough that it's OK.

Yeah I sort of expected the whole woke thing because of CBS and how they are doing a big push towards political correctness. Although it kind of backfired during Big Brother with six black people voting out all the white members and being celebrated. That's still racism in my eyes, if white people did the same thing they would be vilified.

Don't know what to expect with the format. I guess they are doing an immunity challenge and vote every two days instead of three, so wondering if they will do several double tribals during the season (I guess they have to).

The fact the green tribe even considered Brad going out blew my mind, unless there was some other stuff behind the scenes the edit didn't show. Just because he went after Sarah and Shan directly (which was dumb). He was the only one even trying to build a shelter. And how are any of them functioning on zero food doing a challenge that was highly physical?

Having only six on a tribe makes the numbers more interesting because now it's 3-2 automatically for two tribes. Have to say I like the hail mary twist as well and I hope somebody gets to use it.

Ye'p without having seen the hail mary twist, on first impressions I much prefer it in place of (not as well as) immunity idols

Seems actually a fair game mechanism to give everyone the same power, rather than just a crap shoot scavenger hunt (which also makes for really really boring tv)

That would be funny if they spent a whole season searching for idols, and midway through Probst told the viewers only in an aside "you may have noticed no one is finding idols, that's because there are none this year, but the players don't know it"

Theory: instead of finding an idol, they find a special dice that instead of 1/6 hail mary, gives them a 1/2 chance...or i guess a power to draw 3 from the bag.

This is a great idea - even getting two chances makes a big difference.

Apparently he's first name Eric, last name Abraham, but just went by Abraham on the show. Not sure if I missed a segment where he was like I'm Eric, but call me Abraham.

What's ironic about it? A third of the cast is African American and 2 people were voted out on the episode.

As a woman, I've never felt disempowered when someone referred to me in a group of mixed gender* people as 'guys'. Even though the technical definition of guys is male, I've always thought of 'guys' as a way to lump people together so that you don't have to construct awkward sentences like, "Hey, two guys, three gals, and two non-binarys!" I was always fine with it. There are plenty of real issues to get upset over.

Hmmm, male privilege vs. white privilege

Makes me think of the episode of South Park where Cartman goes into the future where there's no more religion but there's a war between different atheist sects.

Being understanding and respectful of differences is a good thing, being woke for woke's sake is not.

totally get this! 100% at the last the first part

my problem with it though is that not everyone feels the same as you. im sure some people are offended at being excluded. and that seems totally reasonable to me

the last sentence i disagree with. you are saying it's not a real issue. i get that it's not a real issue to you, and that's fine. but it is a real issue to some people.

sexist language is the same as racist language. and while it might not offend us personally, it's very easy to see how it is offensive and hurtful to other people, so we don't like it.

And the fact it's a bunch of non indigenous people being referred to as a tribe. That's offensive.

And the name of the show is offensive to non Survivors.

I don't think it would have mattered what race he was. He was the loudest voice pimping "keep the tribe strong" among a tribe where the biggest schemers considered themselves among the weaker members of the tribe. He/she/they weren't going to sit by and vote out a 'weak' member who he/she/they thought would be loyal to them in favor or keeping a 'strong' member who he/she/they thought would soon be offering him/she/they up as the next potential evictee.

I apologize to anyone offended by my use of the word pimping. I apologize to Eric Abraham for presuming he identifies as a 'he' in the event he doesn't. This is exhausting.

In all seriousness, Eric Abraham was all class after his blindside. Bless him.
