Stronger casting would be great. Get rid of the olds and out of shape. They don't need to all be the best athletes, but at least people that can certainly swim and carry their weight.

Yup, pre-merge of USA S36-37 were also solid “strong casts” with good gameplay (and no returnees)

Australia S1-S2 are also solid (no returnees). I didn’t love the Australia S3+ with the known “champs”.

grunge.

Just watched on netflix season 28. first season of survivor and loved it.
I'm sure noone cares, but:

**** Tony. Spencer played great and I can't believe he lost the immunity challenge with 4 left-I think he easily wins if he doesnt let kass come back. Kass played better than people probably gave her credit for, but also made a ton of big mistakes. Tasha was awesome and in a different field probably could've won.

Woo sucked.

edit:watching the "reunion" and still pissed Spencer didn't win. I have nothing to compare it to, so im probably wrong, I just felt like if he got to the jury he was basically sweeping vs any of the other final 4. And he was crushing all of the puzzle challenges and was as physical as either of the physical guy. **** tony

Glad to hear you are enjoying the show you picked a great season to start off. Probably the most well respected season between 21-40 alongside David vs Goliath.

Good example of it being a game of such fine margins. No Chaos Kass flip at the final 11 and more than likely Tony and Sarah are both relatively forgotten figures in Survivor History.

In an alternate universe, winners at war in 2020 we could have ended up watching Jeremiah coming back for his return.

Any dislike for any Survivor AU season has to be more than compensated for by Survivor AU S7 though imo.

Really? I thought s7 was by far the weakest season of Australian Survior.

Just like s6, the editing was horrendous to the point where I was extremely confident of who the winner was by the mid way point in episode 3 (with 22 cast members left). It was then just a 20 episode slog to watch play out the result that was totally telegraphed from the off.

The pre merge confessional count for example (linked below) is absolutely bonkers.

David got almost 50 more confessionals than even the person with the second highest count (Nick)

Flick, on the other hand, who was probably the biggest character in her original season, didnt get a single confessional in the first 9 episodes!

Just all over the place

This is a fun hypothetical. Suppose Kass doesn’t flip and that post-swap tribe of six (Jeremiah, Morgan, Spencer, Tasha, Kass, Sarah) does stay together until F6.

Sarah, having angered the brawns at the merge for “flipping”, probably has no FTC equity against anyone except Morgan.

Assuming a F2 FTC, I think we see Spencer + Tasha + Morgan as the F3, where Spencer + Tasha (the two challenge beasts of the season) are basically competing in the final challenge for the right to drag Morgan to the F2.

Assuming Tony still finds the super idol, it’d be interesting to see if/when/how that gets “flushed”.

We probably see one of Tony/Sarah for S31, and both/either have decent equity to win S31.

I think its quite an interesting scenario. Final 6 would be 3 Brains vs 2 Beautys vs 1 Brawn

I personally could see Kass flipping on Spencer in the final 6 due to their pre merge history and his challenge threat level so a boot order of something like

6th Spencer
5th Tasha
4th Jeremiah
3rd Sarah

Imagine those jury speeches if we ended up with a Kass vs Morgan final 2

Could be living in a world where both Fabio and Morgan won a season of Survivor

This thread didn't really take off yet with the Survivor hiatus, but I have good news for you guys! A friend of a friend is leaving in 3 weeks for Fiji to be a contestant. I'm not sure how long they take to edit after filming but we should have a new season in the fall, or worst case early next year. Could be they're already filming too since they film back to back seasons. I am excite.

For people needing a Survivor-type fix, I just discovered my favorite Surviror-type local show (I'm from Belgium) has a fanbase that creates English subs.

The concept actually had 5 season run in the USA and was called The Mole but I never watched the USA version and I have heard the USA version kinda sucks.

The show was 'invented' in Belgium in 1999 and was then sold to various countries. In Belgium it was initially owned by a very renowned production company and they only made 3 seasons "to not milk the concept". Through various buyouts the show is now owned by a local telecom provider and they have started remaking new seasons every year, but so far the quality has been very good.

The concept is quite simple:
*10 people go on a trip together and have to compete in various challenges to win money in every challenge, which the final winner wins.
*1 of the 10 people is 'the mole' and his/her goal is actually to sabotage the challenges they compete him and to keep the money as low as possible. Nobody in the game knows who the mole is (except for the mole obv). The mole is trained and assisted by a few key people in the production that give tips/help/guidance etc how to sabotage the challenges.
*Every few days (at the end of each episode in show-perspective) the contestants got to fill in a quiz about the mole (with questions like is he male/female, was the mole in group x during challenge y, etc) and the contestant with the lowest score in the quiz is eliminated.
*The viewer also does not know who the mole is and has to also try to discover who it is, though they make this very hard through good editing obviously.
*Contestants get eliminated until there is a F3, at which point the winner (highest score or fastest time in final quiz), loser (lowest score) & the mole are revealed.

The concept creates a dynamic in the show where the contestants also don't want to appear as "obviously not the mole" since that gives them a disadvantage in the quiz, especially in the later stages of the game, and creates very interesting social dynamics with people trying to discover who the mole is and trying to appear mole-ish at the same time.

I can only say that I truly love this show and it is the only show for me that comes close to American Survivor in this genre, and I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite between the 2 tbh. And I truly believe it is a very high quality production coming from a tiny country .

There are 3 seasons with English subtitles available on this YT channel, sadly the episodes are not the videos themselves but rather links in the description of each video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdp...mhcTHfA/videos
(2 seasons don't have seperate videos for all episodes but have 1 central link inside the video, "De Mol, België (The Mole), 2016 with English subtitles" is the earliest season that is available on this channel & was the first season after the show its relaunch.)

You don't need to watch the E00 episodes, they are a preshow-type episode for the fans, but if you're new to the concept it is useless. It might also spoil moles from previous seasons so I'd avoid it. In the season episodes themselves there should not be spoilers from previous seasons.

Word of warning: If you accidentally spoil yourself who the mole is, this is obviously even worse than spoiling yourself who the winner of a Survivor season is. I would be very careful googling or w/e when it comes to this show, and just give it a shot & watch 1 episode if you need a Survivor-type fix .

I don't quite follow this. Is the idea like:

I'm a white male. I score 100% on every challenge, so everyone on my team knows the mole is less likely to be a white male? Seems like you'd be doing a lot more damage to your potential winnings than you'd be gaining.

The advantage that you lose is: you know you’re not the mole, but your fellow contestants aren’t 100% sure that you aren’t the mole.

By making it obvious that you’re not the mole, you still have the disadvantage that you don’t 100% know your opponents’ mole status, but they no longer have that disadvantage (at least with respect to you). That’s the asymmetry.

In the two US seasons (that weren’t celebrity versions), most of the contestants were pretty confident who the mole was by the time it got down to final 5-ish, so the dynamic wasn’t really a huge deal to winnings (especially since there were larger money prizes in the endgame).

Turns out my friend was wrong and she is not a contestant but an on set Dr for the new season. Pretty bummed when I heard that.
