You're forgetting the part about Cochran not being entertaining either.
Brandon Hantz is pure gold entertainment-wise, period.
Erik is responsible for one of the greatest moments any of us have ever witnessed on Survivor and the amazing thing is there's a non-zero chance he could potentially do it again, which is awesome. He's also a very solid competitor and I would argue he exhibited skill in getting Ozzie and the favs to keep him around instead of Ami and then making it all the way to 5th (and he probably would have challenge beasted his way to the F2).
I have nothing for Franchesca except that she was unfortunate enough to be put in a tribe with the GOAT and she made the grave error of not paying homage before the rest of her tribe mates. Plus she showed she had a brain and was an independent thinker, never a good thing when grouped with BRob.

I believe this is more a reflection of his character than anything else. As throughout the season he was set on "trying" to do the right thing and protecting Cochran would fall in line with that thinking.
He had his own personal ethos yeah, putting his alliance before himself, but he recognized how important it was to get Cochran to flip. A lot of players have made decisions based on personal reasons that they consciously knew hurt their chances to win (Colby, Ian, Rob in All-Stars).

Cochran did NOTHING all game but grovel, he finally got a strategic assignment and bragged about being a double agent, and then he completely ****ED UP THAT JOB like 180 degrees to the bad.

Wow, for the first time ever CBS letting Australians watch their online videos...

Early predictions:

Sherri: Young fan girls will be jealous and vote her out for any excuse. Low chance at winning.

Shamar: Could have some potential if he tones down the leadership stuff. Likely go post-merge due to the jury threat being a soldier. Low-Medium chance.

Michael: Will piss someone off. Hard to see him being in a strong alliance with the fan tribe as constructed. Low.

Reynold: Will go early post-merge, particularly if favs have majority. Only chance is if fans have the majority and the girls are pawns. But even still, I expect the minority favs to talk sense into the otherwise pawns. Low chance.

Laura: Didn't get much screentime in the meet the cast, hard to say. Could be one of the floater girls that go deep but unlikely. Low.

Matt: Likely be an outcast, whether wrongly or rightly. Low.

Julia: Could have some game in here. Could form an early alliance with the young girls and if she's a racecar driver, might have some tomboyish game in her. Medium.

Hope: Floater win chance. Low-medium.

Eddie: Another male that likely goes early post-merge if still around, unless the girls are super pawns. Low-medium only because he doesn't appear to be as douchey.

Allie: Same as Laura.

Brandon: Has the SP relationships, but he's terrible. Low.

Andrea: There is a chance she sees the error in her ways and at least tries to do something strategically. Shouldn't be out early or middle unless in minority post-merge. Medium.

Malcolm: All round player. Favs won't have any history on him but unlike other people in his scenario (see: Hantz, Russell), his persona should make x1000 less threatening. They'll rely on him in challenges as well. Off the chart favourite.

Cochran: He'll go soon enough once people get sick of his awkward socialness. If he does go deep, he'll try to logic people on the jury for his vote but that'll simply not work. Only thing going for him is the South Pacific relationship with Dawn and Brandon. Low.

Phillip - I predict first boot of favourites. Francesca will target him early due to their history and she'll prob have the numbers. Low.

Francesca - She's a decent wildcard if she doesn't go crazy on anyone. Low-Medium.

Erik - I do like his chances. Like Andrea *may* bring some more game to the table. Will probably align early with Malcolm and if he can make the merge as the majority, shouldn't be the #1 threat. Should be likeable by a jury. Medium.

Dawn - expect to go deep with the SP alliance. Could be a prime #3 in an alliance that makes it to FTC and becomes a favourite after #2 blind sides #1 and #2 loses reputation in the process. Medium.

Corinne - will piss too many people off. Struggle to win any jury permutation. Low.

Brenda - probably try to flirt it up with Malcolm but I expect to be an early Fav boot. Low.

..damn, not high on too many people...

Andrea: Quite good. I think she's a potential winner because she's seen as a very middle-of-the-road player, and people forget that she's a fan of the game. Women tend to do well in these types of seasons, too.
Brenda: Out early. She's going to be seen as too much of a gamer.
Corrine: Out early. She's too bitchy and won't fit in with these women.
Dawn: Decent. She should make the merge, but she's too big of an obvious endgame threat to win. I could see her making F5, though.
Francquescqka: No clue. I'm guessing her chances aren't good because she seemed bitchy and easily irritated the first time around, but I think she's friends with Andrea IRL, and that can't be overlooked.
Brandon Hantz: Toss-up. He will either go super far or get clipped immediately. He's a total wild card who is completely dependent on alliances. I could easily see him out first or ending up at FTC (and losing). As a fan of the TV show, I hope the latter is true.
Cochran: Quite good. I think he's a potential winner because he's likable and super non-threatening. People will forget that he's a smart superfan capable of being a backseat driver who knifes you near the end.
Malcolm: Toss-up. I think this is finally the returning player season where people clip the unknown dude early, so I say he's out before the merge. If this group doesn't have that bias, though, he should easily make the merge, but he'll be a huge target for a blindside around F9/F7.
Ice Cream Scooper Erik: Decent. I think he's non-threatening enough to go very deep, and people will overrate his naive idol gift as a sign that he's still overly gullible. I don't love his chances to win, but I could see him making a deep run.
The Specialist: Not good. He'll compete with Corrine to be the first boot.
How are people going to forget Cochran is a superfan when he'll remind them every 20 minutes. Think that assessment is ay off, think the rest are reasonable.

Erik was gullible, but he was thinking what he needed to do to win the game. Cochran never got close to a clue on how he was ever going to win the game.

As far as Brandon, all you need to do is look at their interaction post-merge, when Brandon is convincing Cochran he'd be protected after he flips. One is strong and playing the game, the other is weak and getting played.

Brandon's self-created morality quandary was kind of silly, and obv giving up the necklace was dumb, but he was still a stronger force as a social player.

All three were magnitudes better at challenges.

In all seriousness, I can't imagine referring to Brandon as a social player, or as strong and playing the game. Dude is a ticking time bomb. I don't think Cochran played well either, but the amount of verbal diarrhea Brandon spewed in such a short time span was impressive. Unfortunately I don't bet on things that have already happened, but man I would love taking Cochran's side in a last longer on any random season between him and Brandon.

2:00 FTW, Probst

Jeff Probst already declared that Caramoan will be better than Philippines and he's on record saying that this season will be the most unpredictable one yet

Sounds like the epicness Probst described will mostly be drawn from this season's entertainment value instead of it's strategic merit

I prefer an entertaining clusterf*ck to a well executed and drawn out pagonging any day

I guess I should say: they will forget that Cochran actually has a good understanding of the tactical game and can outsmart them if given the chance. I think a lot of people will perceive him as a complete non-threat (on the same level as Shep).

There is no evidence to support this. Just because he knows what to do doesn't mean he can pull it off.

Him knowing what to do puts him ahead of 95% of the people who step foot out there. Obviously, having the social sway to pull off the move is crucial, but the fact that he is smart enough to know what that right move is has to be an advantage, no?

Holmes: Are you prepared to flirt your way to a win? You’re a handsome fellow and I’m sure there are some ladies that wouldn’t mind cuddling with you at night like a big teddy bear.
Thomas: (Laughs) As the situation dictates. I’m not opposed to it. Everyone thinks I fall in love with women quickly.
Holmes: Is that your thing?
Thomas: That’s my thing. I love Alicia from “Survivor: One World.” She asked for fire in the beginning and I told everyone I would have given her ass some fire.
Holmes: (Laughs)
Thomas: You know what I mean?
Brenda

Holmes: What do you think of this cast?
Lowe: I want to get to know them, one on one. I want to talk to them and see what they’re like out there. Do I like you? Can I stand you? Can I trust you? I’m going to pretend to like everybody.
Holmes: Did you recognize everybody?
Lowe: Yeah, I know everybody here except for one guy I don’t know.
Holmes: Is there anyone you immediately think you want to align with or watch out for?
Lowe: I definitely want to align with Cochran for sure and Corinne. I’m going to align with everybody, but those two are who I’m going to go with.
Malcolm

Quote:
Freberg: Allies… Strategically, the girls are more terrifying than the guys.
Holmes: Like who?
Freberg: Brenda, Andrea’s pretty smart, Corinne’s terrifying…but she didn’t really do anything strategically, but at the same time, they’re very Type-A girls. Wait, is that a thing?
Holmes: Yeah, you’re thinking of alpha males, but there are Type-A girls.
Freberg: They’re super Type-A girls where it seems like the guys didn’t come out of the gates as dominant on their first season.
Holmes: Knowing that, are you more likely to follow or work with a Type-A girl or lead around some of these guys?
Freberg: I don’t do critical thinking well around pretty girls. I learned that about myself the first time around. So, probably can’t do the girls just because my brain gets befuddled when pheromones start running. So, I’m naturally drawn to go with the guys, but Cochran will turn on you in a second, Brandon…I can’t even discuss Brandon, and Phillip’s crazy. And, Erik…I guess maybe I should align with Erik.
Holmes: What does all of this say about you?
Freberg: I know. (Laughs) What did I do that was so bad?

I think Cochran himself sums up my feelings about him perfectly: COCHRAN: Well, since you have returning players, everybody has some sort of baggage. I think mine is worse than most of the people’s, and I bring virtually nothing to the table. Except promises. I mean, I’m bad in challenges. I’m bad around camp, which I’m going to try to work on, but I’m always going to be bad in challenges, I’m annoying and I’m a traitor.

Cochran was awful, worse physically than socially but not good socially either.

This, too. He was a borderline Asperger case who annoyed the hell out of his first tribe- okay, they weren't the best fit for his geekishness. But then he even creeped the geekier tribe with stories about prank calling girls in the 5th grade and asking them to trade sperm with him? Dude, save it.

Basically he failed in every aspect of the game, and I have no idea why anyone wants to see him back or thinks he has a chance to succeed this time.

He's bad socially in situations where he's forced to play the game with Ozzy, Elyse, Keith, and Whitney. This time he's friends with five of his nine tribemates prior to the game starting while three others (Corinne, Shep, Brenda) have all mentioned how much they like him and want to work with him in various interviews.

Cochran's position on day 1 is easily one of the cushiest spots to start a season I've ever seen, which, at least for me, is the main reason to be so high on him this time around. His Ivy League intelligence, experience playing before, ability to recognize his previous mistakes, and superfan status are all icing on the Ometepe-level-rigged-in-his-favor-starting-tribe cake.
