Whilst I think there are a few large problems with Garrett's performance I do think that this seasons format is possibly the worst for win equity for players with high intelligence. Especially with a designated brains tribe. Most dominating winners have been successful because they are playing with people that are easily manipulated. It's going to take some top level acumen to successfully manipulate the Brains tribe.

Top 5 WOAT is a pretty good example of recency basis+exagerration.

Brandon Hantz

Quote:
Angered by the idea of how cold the majority alliance was for voting out Francesca first for a second time, Brandon flirted with the idea of borrowing some ideas from his uncle Russell by sabotaging his tribe by, such as urinating on their rice, but managed to restrain himself.
Quote:
Phillip and Brandon got into another argument, resulting in Brandon pouring out Bikal's rice and beans and taunting Phillip to fight him as he walked away.
Quote:
At the Immunity Challenge, Brandon launches a tirade against his tribemates, telling the Fans that he was their "second chance" before taking the opportunity to continue bashing Phillip, telling the fans about Stealth R Us and that the code names Phillip had given everyone were demeaning. Brandon also insulted Corinne Kaplan for trying to be nice to the Fans, when they clearly didn't respect them. Jeff called Brandon over to him to cool Brandon down after manifesting intentions to physically harm anyone. Regardless, Bikal forfeited the challenge anyway, and right there and then, the Favorites verbally voted Brandon out, 8-1.

Quote:
On Day 19, the game took an unexpected turn when the game's first six evictees returned to compete for a chance to return to the game. The Outcasts won the Immunity Challenge, sending both Morgan and Drake to Tribal Council to eliminate a member. That afternoon, Osten again asked his tribe to vote him out, where they finally respected his wishes. But at Tribal Council, a visibly upset Jeff snuffed his torch without going to a vote, and then laid the torch down on the ground, making Osten the first person in history to quit Survivor.
Sean Kenniff

Quote:
Sean's claim to fame was initially creating a ridiculously long (not to mention heavy) fishing pole he called "Superpole 2000." His invention became useless when Richard Hatch revealed to be an experienced fisherman, duping Sean in the process.

He became more famous for his "Alphabet Voting" strategy, in which he cast his votes based on the order of contestants' names in the alphabet. He later claimed that he chose the system as a way to vote off members of the opposing Pagong tribe, whose names were all earlier alphabetically than his own tribe, while appearing to do so in a non-deliberate manner. Sean accidentally eliminated Greg and Jenna in the game using his strategy. With this, the five Tagi members who entered the merge became the final five survivors. With the intended target, Kelly winning immunity and being the only outsider of the core Tagi alliance, Sean was unanimously eliminated by a 4-1 vote.

I think it's truly hard to establish a Top 5 WOAT because there really have been so many people who have played absolutely awful over the seasons. Sure I'll agree with you that Shamar/Colton/Brandon were horrible and none of the people on the list did well in terms of the game but I still find it hard to discern who is actually the worst from each other. Like Chet from Fans vs Favs, NaOnka, Dreamz, Ghandia, Courtney Marit and many more could all be in consideration for the worst. Literally on Amazon there was this lady Joanna who didn't want the immunity idol because she was hyper religious and thought it was worshipping false idols by having it at camp.

I do think that Osten although an idiot for selling all his clothes, isn't one of the worst. After that he was in no shape to handle the conditions out there and left the game with multiple ailments and obscene amount of weight loss. Would you view him differently had he just asked to have been voted out by his tribe and they respected his wishes? Something that has happened on many different cases (such as Jeff on Palau, Fairplay etc.) throughout the season and was going to happen at that tribal before Jeff disallowed the vote and said he could only leave if he quit.

I swear I keep forgetting about some of these people, recency bias FTW.

As far as WOAT, people who quit are hands down the worst. Didn't they reveal Colton's "medical emergency" the first time around wasn't an actual emergency? He's just a little bitch. Can't understand why Caleb is with him.

I liked when she was sleeping only a few feet away from the horsemen while they were digging up the idol.

LOL and she woke up, saw them refilling the hole, and thought she "caught" them digging.
  • Blatantly alienating Dreamz and Cassandra even when Alex explained they needed them for numbers.
  • Complaining about "babysitting" Papa Smurf when he had a potentially life-threatening condition.
  • *Hoping* she'd get booted when they redrew tribes and she was the last one not picked.
  • Falling flat on her fat face running off the platform in the memory challenge (and still messing it up even though the matching tiles were just flipped).
  • Her final TC questions about Cassandra's water shoes and asking Dreamz how many zeroes were in a million (and she didn't know *herself* LOLOL).

I think when people said woat they were obviously exaggerating. More biggest disappointment of all time. Someone that seemed to have all the skills to crush but didn't.

gman would have done better if he had blatantly thrown the challenges and thrown his tribe's food in the fire.

huge runbad they put him on the brain tribe. he was a triple threat, and could have easily been on either of the other tribes where his other attributes wouldn't have stood out as much. and he wouldn't have been such a target.

A big part of playing survivor is adapting to the hand you're dealt and making the most out of your situation. On Malcolm and Denise's season they were stuck with a horrible tribe that lost every single challenge the first few weeks. They stuck together and went all the way to the finals. Bad luck that Garrett was stuck with the tribe he did but he also lucked out by David being a moron and basically gift wrapped an immunity idol to him. Had he been on the Brawn's or beauty tribe he wouldn't have gotten that opportunity. And who knows if tasha would've turned on Garrett if he wasn't so insistent on getting rid of jtia her number one ally. I just don't think he would've been the target had he not alienated tasha and jtia.

FWIW I meant to point out that I didn't think those five are the 5 WOAT, just five that are clearly worse than Garrett imo. I agree with your general point about it being hard to determine who the WOAT are, but I don't think Garrett is close to the truly terrible tier of players.
