I think Greg is supposed to be the "regular guy" character who ends up being just as shallow and greedy and despicable as the rest of them... but I think it would be a terrible idea to make him into some sort of mastermind who ends up screwing everyone over (I've even seen some takes where people think he'll end up maneuvering himself into running the company).

He's a fun character and I like his dynamic with Tom, but he is a secondary character and mainly comic relief. And as an actor Braun is not really up there with the other main members of the cast. If the writers try to make him a central focus of the plot it would not be good, imo.

Wholeheartedly disagree. Bringing such a specific pov and subtext to a character and being a strong advocate for that character when he could very easily be played as superficial, one dimensional comic relief is a testament to what he's doing.

I mean it could just be in the ending ala Bran the broken. It fits with the ancient Rome story line, but yeah idk.

I think it is plausible not because he is some mastermind, but just the most spineless opportunist who got lucky. Sometimes that's enough.

someone told me over the holidays that greg was cast because someone high up on the show was at the same wedding and there was greg dancing so awkwardly and without any cares and the other person was like "omg that's cousin greg"

have not fact checked because it makes too good of a story to find out it's not real

Yeah I could buy that. Most of Hollywood operates off of nepotism after all.

I don't know how to gauge his acting ability, but from all the interviews it seems that people are in agreement that Nic B is basically playing himself as far as social awkwardness, talking style and mannerisms go.

Though I think it's a plausible line he ends up at the top I actually hope that doesn't happen and would be disappointed with that ending.

I'm actually not sure what ending I would want.

One thing I like about how they shot the show is that large portions of it have that mockumentary The Office type feel. I think it helps to accent a lot of the underlying humorous moments.

Also kind of draws me in more to those scenes and makes them seem more unpredictable because the camera isn't leading the action it's reacting to it as well so it feels like you're in the room with them watching things live.

Just needed an edited "I'd marry you in a heartbeat" thrown in and it would've been perfect.

also he literally does say "i will be tom roy" or something like that which would have worked so much better with greg

just finished s3 (also on covid quarantine) and I liked it a lot, just as much as s2, but I can see why people had some issues with it. Basically, it feels like in many cases the writers decided to sacrifice what would be a "good" storytelling in order to make a point.

Good example is the whole sexual assault plot - yes, it is extremely unsasitfying for the viewer how that entire storyline (and the big climax of s2) basically dissolved into nothing, but this is writers saying: "hey, did you really think some scandal could bring down someone like Logan Roy?".

Similiar (though kinda opposite in meaning) case was the beach walk with Adrien Brody character - viewers were expecting some epic showdown between two archrivals, but were instead shown 2 ordinary men, one of them with several mental and the other physical health issues, walking on the beach and pretending to like each other for money.

So, yeah, I believe that's why the pacing and the stakes feel a bit off, but the shows goes even stronger on its anti-late-capitalism message.

Oh, and I was kinda surprised to see speculation about Roman being gay, to me it always felt like he was portrayed as asexual (possibly due to intimacy issues or trauma) and only able to be aroused by humiliation, regardless from whom that humiliation comes from - but it's likely most impactful coming from his mother-figure. Not sure if that's a real "thing", but that's how I was reading it.

That being said, him being gay and terrified to come out due to his father being obviously homophobic also makes a lot of sense, and could also lead to a humiliation fetish.

I thought I read somewhere, at some point, in some place, that Succession was going to be a 5-season arc, similar to Westworld (not that comparing the two is a good thing, just I feel I recall they were both set in their length).

tbh this is the kind of show that should just run for as long as ppl want to watch it

nothing really happens, glorified soap opera

and a very easy kind of show to write/kill ppl off and bring in new ones as circumstances dictate

Shots fired! If I was Giamatti I'd remind Cox that they both did fast food voiceover work.
