my fav shows are the wire and breaking bad.
thought mad men as boring af and even though I liked some of sopranos I still think it was also boring at times. (finished sopranos and only watched 1 season of mad men tho) will I enjoy succession? never watched a single ep. ty

Love Stewy...hope he's in S4 a bit more.
He's a good friend of mine from high school, and has always been a kickass actor.

I promise I'll try not to mention this more than once per season.

hard to say, your range is pretty wild

but it's one of the few shows here with its own thread, which speaks volumes

think standard line here is you need to give it 4-5 episodes but i was hooked as the rolled the credits at the beginning

You will probably not enjoy this show is my guess.

I thought this season is very good but I don't like the final pivot to the kids vs Logan, rather than last seasons followup of the scandal - there is something very real world about a massive corporation being held accountable for its misdeeds and I think its a massive fail that they didn't explore the ramifications properly (yeah, in real life that's what happens too, but that's what woulda made it subversive).

Instead, it's just rich spoiled kids battling it out with their parents for custody over some zillion dollar business - it's just not as morally textured or interesting IMO. Will be watching regardless but I hope they find something more interesting to focus on for the season.

Why does Shiv dress so ****ing horribly? It doesn’t matter if it is at work, at a wedding or casual she’s always dressed for ****. I wonder if that’s a conscious choice or what

I dunno I thought it was widely agreed that she had great fashion style on the show.

Pretty sure Logan is loyal (in his own ****ed up way) to his generals who are loyal to him. Karl, Frank and Gerri have all stuck around for decades.

He may be even more so in the direct firing line of abuse (“only I can be nasty to Frank…”) though.

Yes that’s why I said “in his own ****ed up way.” Frank has been fired multiple times, but there he is sitting comfortably in the war room when his kids burst in guns blazing.

i was actually reading some stuff about this on reddit last night - consensus there is her outfits were an (intentional) mess this season to reflect shiv not feeling as secure in her position and life as S2. it's still a bit weird though given she'd have a personal stylist, yet is wearing $200 dresses.

Shiv 's wardrobe budget is unlimited. The wardrobe budget for the show is not.

Huh? They don't have to buy designer dresses to use them. Designers lend/or rent clothes to get advertising.

I was kinda of surprised, but also impressed, that Snook admitted to wearing spanx while on the show: https://ew.com/tv/succession-season-...e-sarah-snook/

Yeah, this. Pretty sure those plain baseball caps they all wear are in the region of $600.

Just binged the series while in isolation with COVID over the past week. I could talk about it all day but two points stand out to me:

*It's interesting how unsympathetic the show is toward its main characters. By contrast, Tony Soprano/Walter White were also horrible humans, but those shows went out of their way to show how they got to that point. You could do this with the Roy kids, too -- Logan Roy is probably at least as bad a parent as Livia Soprano was -- but the ethos of Succession seems to be more that a piece of **** is a piece of **** and it's not worth dwelling on how they got to that point. Not saying this is good or bad, just different than I was used to.

*I love the way they write the dialogue. The Succession universe lives in this uncanny valley between the realistic and the absurd. So many lines that feel like they'd be one of the wildest things I've ever heard someone say, yet don't feel entirely unrealistic.

Greg is groomed by Tom for the whole series to be a self interested *******, and his character this season has been totally loathsome. Just getting seduced by the money and power etc.

Then Tom, who they dropped all these hints about being more in with Logan this season, gets the call from Shiv and clearly isn’t too confident in the siblings ability to succeed. Greg swoops in and tells him about his girlfriend ladder climbing. Tom sees this guy, total loser, who he’s been using as his personal punching bag, making a move and being completely amoral and selfish and maybe even succeeding.

So he thinks - **** it, Shiv herself just said I’m only with her to climb the ladder, I’ll just take my shot now too.

Just fits in with the overall theme of the show being that every single character is just a huge selfish assholle who is only out for themselves.
Awesome observation, I missed this subtext the first time around. Greg is entering his prime, wouldn't be surprised to see him feature more prominently in S4.

With regards to Logan I will say that although the show doesn't go out of it's way to explicitly highlight his backstory and dwell on it, it does drop some hints which I thought was an interesting way to add some dimension to his character.

Like the thing where he will only swims by himself because he doesn't want anyone to see all the scars on his back. Logan also has a one liner that calls back to this saying how he can't even take his shirt off in front of other people.

And then all the stuff about his sister Rose.

I feel like it will be Greg to be the one who will F Tom over at some point next season.

They've had an ending written for a little while now. It's not like Lost where they got extended further than they ever thought possible and had to write on the fly.

Although I think it's in keeping with his character now, my guess is they've already considered the possibility of a prequel and don't want to delve too deeply into that area so as to save it for such a possibility.

Looking back to the beginning of this thread I thought this was one of the funnier takes.

It's so good as it's the equivalent of Greg telling Tom, "So have you ever heard of California Pizza Kitchen?"
