Honestly, that's the way I've been viewing it. It's weird, all the promos make it look like a really serious drama, but I think the humor is the best part of it (and I mean that in a good way).

Everything I read previous to its airing is that it had strong elements of farce. I think that's an accurate description and it's more enjoyable viewing it that way, IMO.

HBO totally dropped the ball on promotional material if that's the case. That's such an important part of marketing a TV show or movie, if an audience is prepared to expect a certain tone it isn't delivered it can be extremely off putting.

I was scratching my head after the first episode, then midway through the second the light bulb lit up - oh, this is a comedy.

In some ways reminiscent of Northern Exposure, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Drama in '92, and at the end of the acceptance speech the creator said "Oh, and by the way, the show's a comedy."

I am watching it, so far it’s okay. If this is a comedy though, it needs to get more funny.

Maybe it’s just me.

At this point it is merely a series of bad karma inflicted on people who have earned it.

This show seems far below HBO standard but its okay. Comedy or drama? Trying to be a little of both but mostly very soapy with a bunch of ridiculous over the top characters.

I'm out after the announcement of the second season. I thought for some reason it was a mini-series, but now I realize it's going to be a slow, rambling melodrama.

There isn’t one character in this show I care about. I’m a Brian Cox fam but his character is so unlikeable that it makes me want to throw something at the tv. Why do I keep doing this to myself.

As someone who deals with a lot of very wealthy people in MY, it's a pretty accurate depiction. Again I fully beleieve your reads about what this show is intending to be are way off. It's trying to be a legitimate drama with some comedic elements. It's not parody.

Yeah, I don't really get the distinction. Obviously it has elements of a drama and the characters are based on real-world archetypes, so it's not purely a slapstick/screwball comedy, but it's pretty obvious that a lot of the writing is being done for comedic effect. It's not quite as far down the comedy spectrum as This Is Spinal Tap, but it has some of that quality of being funny because there's a lot of truth in it.

This show is realty good. It is great characters and great acting. The family dynamic comes off like a real family of how brothers and sisters of that age range are with each other and how they would be towards their father who will decide their fate concerning the family wealth.

I don't see it as a comedy. I see it as giving a genuine look at what the family dynamics are like in very wealthy families. Especially when the head of the family is a powerful no nonsense billionaire mogul. Sure some parts might be exaggerated for more dramatic and comedic effect but generally I suspect this is how a wealthy family operates.
