I know it is. Just weird to hear tony want to continually refer Christopher as ‘blood’ when he isn’t.

Re watching the series. The intervention scene is all time.

is it mostly during s1 or does it happen throughout the series? can't remember

if it's only early, sometimes they re-define things and you kinda have to give them a pass for that

That's the season Tony was told by his lawyer to remove himself as a boss figure, if I remember correctly.

Nice scene related to current discussion.
Chris was high AF before meeting Tony

yeah i'm reading that as Tony manipulating Chris
that's the season that starts with Tony giving him the cop that "killed his dad" right?
all seemed part of his plan to draw Chris in and build a bond with him
the one that didn't exist bc they weren't actually blood
bc ofc if they were, he wouldn't really need to do any of that

Tony pretty much manipulates EVERYONE, family or not.
At the time Chris seemed like the best choice as number 2, later on it was Bobby.

I like how it was ambiguous as to whether cop was the man who killed Chris' father.
And even Chris didnt really care, he wanted a reason to follow Tony into hell.

Just re-read this entire thread, wow. Thread MVP JayTeeMe, a few other close seconds. WOAT THAKID.

I am currently about to finish a second watch, at around 6B.

Watching this time I was on the lookout for SUBTLE MOMENTS, and think I may have stumbled upon one that I never saw mentioned. Could also be latent Vitoness, you be the judge:

When Tony shows up at Melfi's office with the erection, it seems abnormally large. Then he sits down in her office and it looks even larger sticking up. Then shortly afterward he lays Dr. Melfi on the desk and enters her and she lets out the guttural 'bottom out' grunt, and then again. It just all seemed so over-the-top.

This being Tony's dream though, he obviously has a huge cock and bottoms out Melfi.

Really wish ytf was around to approve or not

I think the best thing I read in the entire thread was the Schrodinger's Cat take on the last couple episodes. I could def see Chase going that route.

Two personal NJ stories:

Right out of college in Boston, I took a job in New Jersey in Edgewater and lived with a family in New Milford. One night out of sheer boredom I decide to go to a strip club. Many, many years later I am watching Sopranos and see Bada Bing interior and I'm like "No..." it looked just like the inside of that strip club I went to in NJ. Sure enough...8 miles away. Bada-BING!

One other weird NJ greaseball story from when I was there. Pretty sure I got lucky this night:

The family I was staying with treated me like a son and one night I say I'm going to go out and see what I can find. I know absolutely nobody except this family. They give me a couple bar suggestions and off I go.
So I go to this bar, I am by myself and prob 22ish. I end up striking up a conversation with these NJ Youts. Very Christofuh-like. So after a while one of these guys in this group(crew?) says to me, completely unsolicited "Hey you see that girl over there? You think she's cute? You should ask her out..."
I'm like "Nah, I already have a girlfriend cuter than her." Bar closes shortly after and I say "Hey I have a joint if you guys want to fire it up in the parking lot. So we all walk out to the cars and set up shop behind a kids car and the girl from the bar comes walking over to us AND IS THE ****ING GUYS GIRLFRIEND. I take one more hit and get the **** out of there as fast as I humanly can without running.

Pretty sure I was being set up for a random beatdown, and somehow escaped. Not really sure how, because I distinctly remember afterward that I basically told this guy his girlfriend he was trying to trap me with was ugly.

I don't think this is really a subtle moment that only I know, but this is the line that made me LOL the hardest in The Sopranos. I guess it's all in the delivery:

As all fans know, the discovery that Vita Spatafore was gay caused Phil Leotardo a lot of angst, and he decides that Vito has to be taken out. In the scene where he is killed, Vito is ambushed by wiseguys in his hotel room, where Leotardo is hiding in a closet. The wiseguys don't finish Vito off right away, however. Instead, Vito isn't killed until Leotardo comes "out of the closet."
It doesn't look like the idea that Phil Leotardo was a closeted homosexual got brought up in this thread.

In addition to Phil literally coming out of the closet prior to Vito's murder, there are other hints.

- Phil spent 20 years in prison. Tony and Dr. Melfi talked about how guys in prison got a pass for their behavior there. Phil may have had some self-discovery during that time.

- Phil's obsession with killing Vito could be interpreted as overcompensation.

- Phil also overreacts to a bodybuilding TV show just after Vito's murder.

- Phil kills (or wants killed) others who were released from prison at the same time he was (Angelo Garepe, Tony Blundeto). They may have known something about Phil.

He could be gay. Or, he could have participated in gay acts and was ashamed of it after his release from prison.

There's no smoking gun. And, it didn't occur to me the first time I watched the series.

But, on some subsequent rewatch the idea came to me. And, it seems to have a following among Sopranos fans.

i mean, phil specifically mentions jerking off in prison rather than going the other way with it, even though "you get a pass for that".

also, i can't find the clip, but there's a scene where he seems to be more ambivalent about the whole vito thing, and his wife gets on his ass about how it's a sin, and vito should be forced to face it etc. he kind of gets railroaded by her into forcing the issue.

and obv the murders of angelo & tony b are for very specific reasons that have nothing to do with any of that.

tbh i didn't see much in the show implying that phil is gay, think the coming out of the closet "whacking" scene was more of a dumb joke really idk. but i guess you could make anything fit the conclusion that you want. (leotard-o!?)
