Also any ep that features AJ prominently tends to drag down the average

The Test Dream is a great episode imo
Test dream is one of the best ..... in Camelot is a little slow but I crack up every time when tony notices the picture of his dog on the wall, that whole sequence is hilarious

Christopher and Camelot are excellent choices.

Test Dream is not. It is historically brilliant.

Re: Subtle moments in The Sopranos that YOU only know.

"Christopher " episode as one of the worst?!?!

It's one of my favorites lol people watch sopranos from different perspectives.. to me , it's more a comedy, and that episode is absolutely brilliant with the comedy

The car ride scene at the end with Tony, Sil, Patsy and Chrissy alone is hysterical and classic ...

Never really understood the hate for Christopher.

Had one of the best lines of the series

Chief: "I had business in Manhattan"
Artie: "Ohhhhhh, not again!"

Exactly! I can think of ten great lines from that episode alone .. hell even Bobby B drops his funniest line of series with his " I wouldn't mind sitting on my ass all day eating mushrooms , collecting government checks" lol

Best thing about "Christopher" was the Nick Di Paolo cameo

Re: Subtle moments in The Sopranos that YOU only know.

imo "Chasing It" is also pretty bad besides "Christopher". One thing besides the plot that annoys me alot about "Christopher" is the weird close-ups. "Chasing It" has a pretty random plot and is very dark-themed, this episode shows Tony as a massive degen while his degen-ness has never been an issue in the previous 5,5 seasons.

Re: Subtle moments in The Sopranos that YOU only know.

That's David Chase messing with ya, like I can make you love this man or absolutely hate him ( like how you feel watching chasing it, Tony is the biggest prick )

But back to "Christopher " lol when my friends and I want a great episode to laugh at that's one of our go to episodes!

I dunno if it's bc being from same area and seeing these types of guys my whole life but the acting, character development is brilliant and comical with the way these guys think

and again the whole "Christopher " episode leading up to the final car scene is brilliant.. if that car scene doesn't make you laugh at at least five different times then imo you're watching it wrong lol

Re: Subtle moments in The Sopranos that YOU only know.

I just cringe through most of "Christopher". I haven't seen it in forever, I just seem to recall that the writing and acting were so bad at times, it was jarring, compared to the other eps. Imperioli gets the writing credit for that one, so I always blamed him.

However, I just now threw back my head and LOL'd for a good, long time when reminded of this line:

thought the characterization was fairly awful tbh, most notably Sil literally playing the part of Paulie. iirc this was the point of the show where Paulie was written into prison bc Tony Sirico needed time off due to back surgery irl. think that ringleader role was made for him, not Sil, bc it basically made no sense for the latter. Sil never got that worked up about anything, whereas Paulie was Mr.Italian pride going back to early in the 1st season.

also Tony not gaf and being the voice of reason was really weird, given that he was usually 2nd in line for Mr.Italian pride. the whole thing was just really off.

i suspect it was written before Sirico scheduled his surgery, and instead of pushing the ep back, they just juggled everything around. think it would have played much better with Paulie in the Sil role. him getting super worked up about the whole thing, and then forgetting about it and going to the casino is just pure Paulie. none of it really makes sense for Sil.

and just generally, the show was rarely at its best when commenting directly on the Italian stuff.
and it's weird how standalone the ep seems to be. like bizarro Pine Barrens.

I've seen Sil pretty worked up over Jersey Shore cast rejects cleaning cheese from around his feet

That guy did time for mans laughter I think (cheese cleaner Bevilaqua)

FYI you can get your very own Bevilaqua Heating & Air Conditioning t shirt on Dana Gould's Website. I assume there's a connection because I choose to

Excellent response... I can def see that point of view, although I don't think Paulie would care enough about it to do something about it beyond going to the protest and cracking a few people

And that kinda is Tony lol where he cares about certain stuff but not to the point where he has to do any real work related to it lol and he was the voice of reason bc his mind was all over the place with the beginning of uncle Jun trial and still running the family ( a business) .... so much stuff crack me up from that episode so maybe I'm biased towards this episode...from Tony reaching out to the assemblymen and the SECOND he says no won't be able to help Tony just hangs up while he's still talking lol also maybe it's bc I love uncle Jun so much but the start of his trial in front of the judge and all he's doing is complaining about phone charges to Mel his lawyer lol and then Junior being so pissed at the court artist he's staring him down in court is just so good 😂

There are just certain scenes that I think are comic genius and that car ride was one of them.. seeing Sil trying to find it on the radio and Tony just giving him a look bc he's pissed about this whole thing and then for Sil thinking to be "ahh maybe we ought to just wack this prick" lol classic mafia thinking and Tony giving him a look like who the F you kidding , Tony was just waiting to jump down Sil's throat over this whole thing ..... Sil's response to whatever happened to Gary Cooper "he died " and Tony bangs his head he's so frustrated at the stupid answer lol and to finish it off Chrissy pipes in with the "he was gay Gary Cooper?" Bc he wasn't paying attention to most of the convo and is right in character for Chrissy lol Patsy is smart enough to just sit there and shut up
