Eight minutes into the episode, Christopher's heart stops, indicating that he has died. After the doctors resuscitate him, they tell everyone waiting outside Christopher's operating room that he was "clinically dead for about a minute." Adriana requests to see Christopher, but the doctors indicate that he only wants to see Paulie and Tony. When Paulie and Tony see him, Christopher tells them "I'm going to hell. I crossed over to the other side. I saw a tunnel, and a white light. I saw my father in hell. And the bouncer said that I'd be there too when my time comes." Paulie asks him "What bouncer?" Christopher replies "The emerald piper. It's an Irish bar where it's Saint Patrick's Day every day, forever."
Later, Tony tells his psychiatrist, Dr. Melfi, that Christopher was clinically dead for about a minute, and describes Christopher's alleged experience in hell. Dr. Melfi asks Tony "Do you think he'll go to hell?" Tony responds "No. He's not the type that deserves hell." Dr. Melfi asks "Who do you think does?", to which Tony responds "The worst people. The twisted and demented psychos who kill people for pleasure...the degenerate bastards that molest and torture little kids. They kill babies, the Hitlers...those are the evil ****s that deserve to die. Not my nephew."
Still later in the episode, Paulie visits Christopher in the hospital in the middle of the night. Paulie asks Christopher "That bouncer that sent you back, did he have horns on his head?" Christopher answers "No. He was just some big Irish goon in old-fashioned clothes."
In a conversation between Paulie (clearly concerned that he is going to Hell) and Tony (dismissive of Christopher's experience), Tony asks Paulie "Do you eat steak?" Paulie then asks "[what] the **** ya talkin about?" Tony says "If you were in India, you'd go to hell for that."
Tying-up all of the symbolism in the episode, the final 13 minutes include the discovery of the location of Christopher's shooter, Matthew Bevilaqua. Tony says to Big Pussy "Give me one," indicating that he wants a gun, and that he wants to be involved in the hit on Matthew Bevilaqua. Big Pussy says "You don't have to do this, Furio and me are on it." Tony smiles and says "I wanna do this", indicating that Tony will get pleasure out of killing the man who attacked his nephew Christopher. The scene cuts to a Hacklebarney State Park snack bar where Tony and Pussy have tied up Bevilaqua, and beaten-up; Bevilaqua was shown with several bruises and cuts. During the interrogation, Bevilaqua is frightened, shaking, and on the verge of crying the entire time; at one point, he urinates in his pants and it is shown dripping down his ankles. When Tony is done tormenting and intimidating (ie "torturing", in Tony's words) Bevilaqua, he and Pussy treat Bevilaqua like they were best pals, with Pussy offering a Diet Coke soft drink to Bevilaqua. After quaffing the soda, Tony tells Bevilaqua that it was his last drink that he will ever have, bringing the incident to a cruel turn. Tony holds a gun up to Bevilaqua's head, and Bevilaqua calls out for his mommy, begging Tony not to kill him. When Tony shoots him in the head, Tony has become everything he despised, epitomizing those who deserve hell. Pussy and Tony then shoot Bevilaqua several times in the chest, to make sure he is dead. A few moments later, Pussy and Tony are shown in an Irish Bar containing much of the color green; this "Irish bar" could also be thought of as hell. Behind Pussy is stained glass, and 2 curved blue pieces of the glass appear to come out of Pussy's head, as if they are horns. Tony and Pussy are also eating steaks - something that Tony said would send an Indian person to hell.
