I agree with dibbs and that fact that he's kind of an idiot and probably wasn't trusted with anything important until he became Tony's BIL (and taking care of Junior for some long paying his dues) and Tony more or less had to promote him.

"You know Quasimodo predicted all this."

I watched it with the gf as she wanted to watch it, so after making her watch all my shows I thought I'd be nice and watch. It's not that good especially Season 3 I thought, one thing it does well is the cliff hanger at the end of each show, making you think okay now I have to see what happens next fml...if you're watching it for some T & A though it ranks up there with the GOAT.

For an individual who loves The Soprano's that much more than The Wire as well its tilting that you're viewing of The Wire is so lame. The Wire would be number 2 of my fav shows though. Season 3/4 of The Wire are so good and its like a 25 hour movie for me.

Neither have I and I've seen every episode of the Sopranos.

Anyway, there is a scene in the episode where Johnny Sack's daughter gets married that isn't subtle but hilarious.

I think Johnny asks Tony to take someone out and Tony reluctantly agrees. Tony tells Christopher about this and Chris thinks it's a bad idea. They argue and Chris say that it's "like in 1" where you can request anything from someone on their daughter's wedding day. Tony gets confused and says he already agreed to it but Chris says something like "well you should ask him to not have to do this."

I may be doing an awful job explaning this but does anyone know what I'm talking about and does anyone have the exact dialogue?

Yep, me too. More than once.

Oddly enough I don't recall.

from Wikipedia:

As a personal favor, Johnny asks Tony to perform the hit on Rusty. Surrounded by U.S. Marshals, Tony and Johnny join Johnny's father and elderly relatives at a large table and discuss the situation in code, to the bewilderment of Johnny's folks. Reluctantly Tony agrees to the hit. Later, when Tony talks to Christopher about farming out the job to associates in Italy, Chris disagrees, saying they should keep the job in-house. Christopher also mentions that Johnny asking this favor is just like "the movie" (The Godfather) and Tony can not refuse since it is Johnny's daughter's wedding day. Tony corrects Christopher explaining that in the movie the situation is reversed. People ask the father of the bride for a favor.

Wikipedia does not mention that at the end of the exchange Christopher tells Tony that "well you should ask him to not do this then." Which was funny because Tony had already agreed to it.

The hilarious part was them disagreeing about how the sequence went in the Godfather.

Yeah, that was really funny. Sometimes they got lazy with the "hey these people are sorta dumb" bit, like Chris thinking the Cuban Missile crisis was just a movie, but the favor scene really nailed it.

Chris seems to have a chronic problem with correctly recalling the Godfather...in the pilot he gets Luca Brasi's name wrong. Kind of funny for an Italian-American mobster who loves movies as much as Chris claims to.

Yea that always bothered me. "Louis Brasi sleeps with the fishes".

His chronic problem was being an incredibly dumb person, just like every other character involved in that crime world. Chase hit us over the head with this fact over and over and over throughout the series. They are all idiots.

If you listen to actual tapes of mob guys, they sound 10x dumber than Sopranos characters. The accents and vernacular in Sopranos are sometimes criticized as being exaggerated, but they don't go far enough.

They meet with Ben Kingsley, and Carmine calls him a sexy beast.

He refers to a washing machine as a 'little bit*h'

And then this just kills me... the last 10 seconds especially

As far as Little Carmine goes, nothing beats, "You are at the precipice of an enormous crossroads."

In season 3, he's present when Chris and Gene are made. This means he's gotta be made already, right? So if he's made, how come he's such a wimp in the earlier seasons, taking **** from everybody, and acting as Junior's caretaker? Guys like Chris and little Paulie did a lot more badass stuff before they were even made.

Then in season 4 I believe, Junior tells Tony he's bringing Bobby up. Tony and Bobby go to the diner, Bobby orders the steak... what do they promote him to? And then in season 5 or 6, Bobby complains to Tony that he's doing nothing except getting stool softener for Junior.
When Jimmy Smits' character was introduced on NYPD Blue, his prior job was being a driver for the Commissioner. The other detectives resented that such a menial job also put him on the fast track for promotions.

I think Bobby's career was fast tracked the same way, with Junior as the commish.

(Heh, Jimmy Smits was also a "Bobby". I'm so glad these two guys made the name "Bobby" sound less juvenile. I'm a Bobby, and I love it so much more than "Bob", or God forbid, "Robert".)

I'm going through a re-watch of The Sopranos, and just saw some HBO incest in the season 3 finale. Low and behold, look who guest stars... Tobin Bell the Jigsaw Killer (as Major Zwingli) and Michael K. Williams. This episode aired before The Wire and the Saw film series came out, so that's probably why I didn't recognize them the first time around.

Nothing subtle about it at all, I just found it amusing.

I just never knew anything about it tbh. And I was fed up with paying for HBO so I literally ended my subscription the day after the last Sopranos episode.

From everything I've now heard and read about the Wire it definitely sounds like I'd enjoy it.

Little Carmine FTW.

There are soooooo many great bits of humor in The Sopranos that probably makes it slightly more enjoyable overall than The Wire. (Still can't decide which is my favorite)

Random scenes off top of my head that crack me up:

Richie getting all bent out of shape about "The Jacket" in season 2. His reaction and Tony's lack of reaction when he gives him the gift is priceless. "It's the jaccccckeeeeeett" Tony doesn't even recognize it and Richie thinks he is gonna be blown away by the gift.

Any scene involving JT. When Chris and Little Paulie go to his apartment to beat the sh#t out of him and JT says to LP "I'm JT by the way" and extends to shake his hand I burst out laughing. Little Paulie blankly staring back at him.

"It must have crawled under there for warmth..." - Christopher

Chris petting that stray dog and feeding it a hot dog zonked out of his mind after blasting H. The song that plays during that montage is incredible BTW (Fred Neil - The Dolphins). Basically anything Chris does while high. Casually talking about his Heroin use in Season 4... "Sh#t's more addicting than chew"

Little Carmine and JT's initial "Cleaver" pitch to potential investors.

Tony beating the sh#t out of the guy at the Bing for using too much ice. "CONSERVE!!!"

I love the scene where Meadow is at dinner and some dude from Phil's mob tells her she made a mess and wipes her chin. The look on Tony's face when Meadow tells him at the table the next day is hilarious.

Meadow and Carmela don't even bat an eye when Tony gets up and leaves. After that, Tony meets Carmela at some office and the guy's tooth is stuck to his pants.

I watched the episode yesterday when AJ and his pals vandalize the school's swimming pool. Yeah, I knew the pizza scene was funny but what I didn't remember was when Tony told AJ he was gonna have to clean the gutters and AJ said "I don't know what that means." Tony tells him to stop being a smartass and AJ says again "No, I really have no idea what you're talking about."

Just struck me as funny that AJ had no idea what gutters are.

Little Carmine's malapropisms kill me on a regular basis but my favourites have to be:

"That's right, honey, the sacred and the propane".

"I gave him this present, this mellifluous box".

Reminds me of Junior and Tony talking about Little Carmine, "Didn't he almost drown in two inches of water when he was younger?"

Also Meadow and Jackie Jr playing scrabble:

Meadow spells out: 'Oblique'
Jackie Jr: "Hey, no Spanish!"

Tony to Dr Melfi: "A guy like that is going out with a woman, he could technically not have penissary contact with her Volvo".

When Tony, Chrissie and Paulie return from Naples, Tony is visibly depressed, looking at the bleak surroundings on the car ride back from Newark, whereas Paulie is smiling, pleased to be back home having been appalled at the conditions and atmosphere in Naples. This is complete contrast to Paulie's later praise of 'the old country' and how he feels "sorry for anyone who hasn't been".

Silvio gives Vito's wife tickets to Blood, Sweat and Tears after Vito's disappearance and the revelations about his homosexuality.

Sil's wife in the show is his wife in real life.

First film we see Tony watching in Season 6 is Paths of Glory, a film that deals with obedience, loyalty and honour.

Tony's obsession with ducks is completely exploded when he tacitly approves the dumping of asbestos in the marshlands, a common habitat of ducks. Also, the guy he speaks to on the phone is wearing an American Eagle jacket, another nod to Tony's double-standards.

I might be stretching here but the painting Tony commissions, and subsequently orders to be destroyed, is rescued by Paulie who likens him to Napoleon. Napoleon was defeated by Russians, perhaps a nod to the Soprano family's failure to deal with Valery the Russian.

Tony didn't specifically tell them to dumb asbestos in marshlands iirc
