Spoiler:
I'm fairly certain I would have some severe and quite visible emotional and physical scarring were I to spend a week getting throat-****ed by a giant snake.

I get the desire to leave some ambiguity to allow for fan theories and all that but for me personally I feel like the connections and laws regarding all the supernatural elements (Eleven, the Upside-Down, the monster, Will being able to communicate at times etc...) weren't fleshed out nor was there enough background about the government lab. A fictional universe where supernatural stuff happens without clear laws regarding what is possible or not and why in that universe always comes off lazy to me, and I felt that way about this show.

It was entertaining and the kid actors were impressively not annoying, but I didn't think it was that spectacular.

I'll assume due to the show's success there will be a Season 2 or more seasons that can explain more details of what is going on. I'm pretty sure the problem with explaining the rules is nobody from that time could easily explain/know what was exactly going on.

Spoiler:
he was hiding in his forrest fort for most of that time. It was only the until later (I think last day) that he got caught and snaked

Also, like capone said, nobody in the show knew the rules of the upside-down world, so there's no onus on the writers to explain them to the audience, IMO. As long as there's nothing contradictory, I don't see a problem in leaving it undefined.

Liked it a lot.

-Agree that the end is weak.
We get it. Dude's daughter died. It made him sad. There was never a question that he'd end up taking care of Eleven.
I'd be happy to see sheriff flashbacks in an episode that gives more answers than questions about the sheriff.

-I think the Eleven explanation will be the most interesting part of season 2. The rest of it seems meh. With the teen love triangle. Mike will be sad. Will will be post-traumatic. Winona will be overprotective. We get it. Hopefully season 2 starts like 6 months later.

-Hopefully, it's another 8-episode pick-up. So they dont dawdle around for three eps before getting into the good stuff. But like 80s movies, are the sequels ever any good?

-I read Barb will be more prominent in season 2. I hope she sort of becomes the new monster. And we see Will fighting a similar transition.

Kind of disappointed that the second season looks like it is going to be a continuation of the first with the same characters. I think going back to the creation of the government lab and how Eleven became Eleven etc... would be more interesting.

Yeah, this would be an avenue with a ton of interest to me.

Question about Chief Hopper and his daughter:

Spoiler:
Is it possible that the Chief's daughter is Eleven? Also, when he leaves the small Christmas pie in the box in the woods at the end ... who is the pie for ... the monster?

Hopper seems to have a strong connection with the DOE/gov't. They didn't kill him. He gets into the car with the two agents at the end. He seems to be on the inside to me.

A prequel would be boring, we already know enough of a backstory:

Spoiler:
Dr. Brenner was a part of MKUltra and continued that work. Eleven is the child of one of the MKUltra test subjects and is basically how she is because she grew up in a lab being tested all her life.

Spoiler:
No. Eleven is the child of the woman Hopper and Joyce go visit. It wasn't a pie Hopper leaves in woods, it was waffles, hinting at Eleven being alive.

Hopper's strong connection to the government is from making the deal with Dr. Brenner to go to the Upside Down to save Will. Obviously in season 1 he isn't an "inside man" or anything but from the '1 month later' part he has been told more about it and seems to know something about Eleven. He is the Sheriff and there still is a gate to the Upside Down in the facility.

i thought he put wings in a tupperware thing. like buffalo wings. not a pie.

Spoiler:
And yes, also waffles on top of the tupperware full of wings.

I figure it was all for her. she needs real food too. Then the waffles are a treat for her as her favorite, and a clue for us to know the food is for her. The food doesn't have to be for someone else and eleven. It can all be for her.

Is this show too scary/adult for 7-10 year olds? I don't care all that much about what my own kids watch, but we have family over and all the kids want to watch it and none of the adults have seen it.

Not appropriate for 7 - 10 year olds.

My brother is 38 and he couldn`t sleep after the first episode. Granted he is a giant pussy, but for sure not appropriate for 7-10 year olds.

Also, do yourself a favour, and watch it.

Thanks. We didn't let the kids watch it. I wanted to see what it was all about, so I started it. 3 episodes in and I really like it.

Finished watching this a second time a little bit ago, and the second viewing was easily as strong as the first for me. Really enjoyable show, especially for anyone who was around the ages of the kid characters at the time depicted, and if you enjoy King stories with kids and early 80s Spielberg. The show was outstanding in many ways.

One downside to watching all of Season 1 in the span of a week is it's much easier to get the theme music stuck in your head.

I'm so ****ing excited for that. I want to rewatch the first season so badly but I think I'll put it off until a few months before two starts.

Still getting hype-chills everytime I hear that theme song.

Was thinking the same thing. Season 1 was a C+, worth watching but not interesting enough for another season of the same thing.
