Watched both episodes. Totally different tone then all the other shows, this universe in more interesting when you don't get tied to episodic 1 story per episode model. This is much more interesting that doesn't require some multi year show slowly telling a story.
I like
I have a feeling people opinions with be very polarized.
Watched the first ep. Production and visuals were fantastic, movie quality. Overall plot seems like it could be interesting. Dialogue and writing were horrible though.
And the First Officer's actions were atrocious ever since she stepped foot on the Klingon artifact. She could be likeable if she didn't do so many annoying things, but as it stands, I don't care for her as a main character. Didn't like the look of the Klingons either.
I thought it was much better than expected and I like Burnham's character a lot; the actress is quite good too. Not sure why people hate her already (well, I know why...).
My cousin who is the biggest Trekker I know, is old enough to have watched TOS in its original broadcast run, gave it a 'meh'. That's all I need to know.
Fwiw he mentioned the same things re: Klingons that have been posted here.

Honestly, I think these are the worst kind of people to get an opinion from. Very "serious" Star Trek fans mostly hate any new Star Trek because they compare actual shows/movies to their imaginary perfect idealization of Star Trek. In reality, ALL Star Trek productions have been flawed at some level but we love them anyway. I try to dive into new Star Trek with the attitude of liking it for what it is, instead of picking at them for what they aren't.

First two episodes were decent. That episode was rubbish. Why does she think she killed 8,000 people?
She was supposed to only observe the Klingon Artefact, instead she went to it, then she killed the Klingon on it starting the war. But likely because her mutiny failed
The real question is will we run into Spock during the show. If this is taking place 10 years before TOS he has to be in Starfleet right now, right?
In "The Cage", which takes place several years before Kirk took command, Spock is serving as Science Office on the Enterprise under Captain Pike and a female First Officer. I'm guessing that is still in this time period's future.
