Not how much was in this thread but to all the people bitching about the spore drive and how we never here about it in future treks there you go answered.

The budget must have been absurd on the finale.

Final episode was a bit of a mess, which is appropriate for a messy season. The tailend episodes had too many instances of people doing things that made little sense because of... reasons. This show has really struggled to find the balance between traditional Trek and serialised drama. This season made more of an effort to develop the crew but often did so quite clumsily. The prime example of that that was giving the previously completely neglected Airiam a backstory in the same episode she's killed off. Hopefully in S3 the writers will revert to a more traditional Trek show.

Michelle Yeoh's performance was the highlight, bringing an entertaining sense of dark humour to the crew dynamic. I'm quite looking forward to her spinoff show, apparently it's going to be filmed straight after they've filmed S3.

The look on her face was perfect as she was finally getting a chance to torture someone/something again.

I hope don't go straight Star Trek with 85% 1 off episodes next season. that would be awful.

Well, Spock shaved though.

IMO, nothing against the actors who were given tough tasks, but during season 2 Michael Burnham and Saru were the least interesting characters while Pike, Tilly, Georgiou, Stamets, the engineer woman, others shined. I wish Spock has been more Spock-ish (less emotional). I lost interest in the plot details which seem to pile on into absurdity. Not even sure why, if they killed Leland (control), why they still needed to go into the future.

Yep. I thought Pike, Georgiou, engineer woman and Spock were the most entertaining/interesting of the bunch. The Admiral also wasn't too bad. Make a series with all of them. imo

BTW, I watched Menagerie for the fun of it after the finale.

I think I can get behind the new season. Seems like giving them no reason or way to get back is the way to go. Spin off on the mirror universe theme.

This show might well benefit from not having to worry about continuity in any way.

If you don't love mirror universe Georgiou you are wrong

Easily the best aspect of an otherwise meh series.

The opening of the second ep raised one of the perennial Star Trek questions again - why don’t they have seatbelts in the future?

I did re-watch leading up and while boring old school trek fans didn't like it season 1 was elite, good as it gets and what modern trek should be

I'm one of those old school Trek fans (emphasis on old; I was in high school when TOS premiered) and I thought s1 of Discovery was excellent once I got used to the re-imagined Klingons.

I don't understand why S2E2 of strange new worlds wasn't the season premier. Odd choice as this blew 2.1 out of the water.

Honestly I've hated every single episode this season while I quite liked S1. Not sure if they've both been the same quality, feels like the writing has taken a big dive and they're falling back on very stale tropes and clichés, though it's possible I was entranced by Pike's hair for all of S1 and I'm finally falling out of the spell of it and it was meh all along.

Lower Decks crossover was actually pretty good. On the episodes alone this season is good but I feel like it is lacking an overall serialized arch for being 7 episodes in. That totally would work in old school 20+ episode seasons but not as much now.

Just watching the musical episode and I don't think I've cringed this hard since I watched season 1 of the Office UK

I laughed out loud at the Klingons' K-pop like number. If you're getting upset about this ep, you need to stop taking TV so seriously.

Why are you going straight to 'upset'? I'm glad some enjoyed it, it just wasn't at all for me. I'd rather they made episodes that appealed to me more, less Spock, more Mbenga and Chapel and Pike's Hair and Ortegas, but I don't imagine that loyalty grants me any sense of claim or ownership over the franchise. This has been a super Spock-heavy season, the most since I think it was S2 of Discovery, and I've never been convinced by him as an actor, just hamming it up in the way Vulcans are made to talk and behave like ASD automatons. TOS & TNG era Vulcans weren't really like that, at least not to this extent. So much of this season has been just this same 'ooh, look at Spock, isn't he weird and funny' and it's like yeah ok already. Spock horny, Spock human, Spock break up with basic Vulcan fiance and get with hot nurse, Spock sad. Far too much screentime for him and far too little for Pike's Hair. More Pike's Hair.

Okay I just watched the Star Trek Musical. lol Kind of funny, kind of ridiculous. It could have been worse. Did they really not know how to end it and just handwaved a solution? I wonder if they had time pressure and couldn't fit an ending into the show?

I would rate it a little above average compared to other musical episodes of non-musical shows. I thought the overture music during the credits was a nice touch.
