Yeah the sketches were weak, like always, but Baldwin cracked me up several times.

Is this the exact same cast as last year? YAWN

I kept waiting for the 9/11 punchline in the Tony Bennett bit. Seriously, how do you do that bit a week or two after he tells Howard we're the terrorists and not throw in a joke about it.

the auditions are always amazing. they had some good skits. I still don't get Radiohead, never have, never will.

oh and do you think Pharoah will be Obama this season? If not, get him out of there, b/c he sucks, and wasn't even good enough to play one of the 6 generic black characters Kenan played. and dont tell me he's better than Kenan, he may be able to do a good Will Smith (which is already played out,) but Kenan is definitely a better performer.

Show was worth it if only for the return of Hader as Alan Alda. Nobody in the audience laughs at it but I ****ing roll. Hilarious.

I was really surprised at how funny this ep was. Who's On Top was ****ing gold.

Hader and Peter Serafonwicz, should have an Alan Alda off.

Anyways I thought the premises for all the sketches were strong, but they just repeat slightly different jokes spun off the original premise until the sketch ends and it gets tiresome. I loved the recurring "10 minutes" joke in Who's on Top.

I thought a lot of it was decent and the chick from Bridesmaids was good.

watched it earlier, at least we got a new impression from Pharoah and he killed it.

Melissa McCarthy was alright for the most part, but its almost like they told people to laugh a little harder b/c she was diabled or something. and i say on twitter a ton of people talking about her being amazing and all that. Let's take it easy. I dont know any way of saying it without sounding like a dikk, but she's being treated like she's ******ed or something.

I had no idea who she was and went in not liking her at first after that silly monologue dance number, but she won me over by the end despite the lack of quality material to work with. And I didn't give her any sympathy laughs either. I thought she absolutely killed the Ranch Valley sketch which had no right being anything better than garbage.

The Arlene sexual harassment skit was awesome. I don't know how Jason Sudekis was able to keep a straight face.

Pharoah is a one trick pony and should be ****canned. Maybe his Rock impression was good but the sketch was a dud. The odd time he shows up in a skit that doesn't involve an impression, he's terrible. It's like he's hypnotized by the cue cards. His impressions would be better if he had some funny to back them up.

lol, what are you talking about? I didn't get this feeling at all. I've never watched Mike and Molly and didn't know who Melissa McCarthy was until she won her Emmy. Not being familiar with her I went into this episode with minimal expectations and expected her to be in the background of most sketches. My impression was that she saved some weak sketches that would have crashed and burned otherwise. She killed in the sexual harassment, salad dressing and TCM sketches.

And why do you keep saying disabled and ******ed when what you mean is fat? Regardless, she was legitimately funny, not sympathy funny or whatever you're talking about.

Melissa McCarthy is an alum of the Groundlings in L.A. where SNL has gotten a ton of their members from in the past couple decades, including Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Cheri Oteri, and currently Kristen Wiig. In fact the two of them were there at the same time which explains why they did bridesmaids together. Groundlings is an improv and sketch theater focusing on character based comedy, which is why SNL has been so heavily in that direction in recent years. Melissa McCarthy is a great host to have because she is essentially her own cast member. She could've totally been a regular on SNL which I think would've been awesome to see since they've never had anyone like her before. Fun piece of trivia: the air marshall in Bridesmaids that she seduces on the plane is Groundlings alum Ben Falcone, her real life husband.

Was pretty impressed with McCarthy, she put a ton into those sketches where the material was mostly pretty dire. In a regular week she would have been Kristen Wiig and this would have been unwatchable.

The rumor mill is saying that we will see Eddie Murphy on SNL tonight. So awesome cause he was such a dynamic cast member and one of SNL's goat

He might be there to promote Tower Heist. It would be surprising though because he refused to show up for the reunion a few years back. Apparently was all butthurt because David Spade made a joke at his expense on the Hollywood Minute and he held the grudge for years. If he shows up tonight it would be his first appearance since he was a cast member over 25 years ago.

I have fondness of a sexual nature for Kristen Wiig, especially her "just kidding" persona.

Zooander was looking really really really old last night. That Radcliff sketch looked to catch the studio audience off guard for a bit, and no Eddie Murphy.

I doubt Eddie Murphy will ever go back to SNL. He has basically refused every request to go back for like 20 years. He doesn't participate in the documentaries NBC makes, he didn't get interviewed for the oral history, etc.

As for the episode, I thought it was decent, once I instantly skipped the Kristen Wiig hot chick sketch.

Damn, season has been rough so far. McCarthy's week was good but that was all her - those skits would have died with a lesser host. SNL has lost some stellar cast members over the past few years and have been unable to replace them. Not to mention the huge turnover in featured players a few years back has left the bench thin. Christ, even the digital shorts feel stale this year.

They're going to need to pay their scouts overtime this season. Wiig is almost certainly gone and Sudeikis, Hader, Kenan and Armisen are all long in the tooth by SNL years. No one else has stepped up. Killam is very good but I'm not sure he's connecting. Bayer is good but needs to stop relying on the cue cards so heavily (Hader is brutal with cue cards as well but he's so good I excuse it). Pharoah is a write off. It's great that he can smash these impressions but he doesn't bring any funny.
