That game show was super creepy and was televised grooming.

Abby Elliot is pretty good. Not sure she deserves top billing status and the pay bump that goes with it but they would really miss her from the show if she left so presumably she luckboxed with timing of a contract renewal.

WUWT is like heroin or something. The first appearance was one of the best skits ever, but the rest just get worse and worse, but I still like it. Agree with the crazy eyes though, it always gets me.

I really liked that ep.

Of course i <3 Emma Stone and in a different way <3 KOL so that helped a lot.

I wish they changed the beats of the Stefon jokes, I really like the character and the sketch, but they don't need to keep the exact same setup every single time.

Emma Stone was really good and game for a lot of things. Only a couple sketches were retreads so thats always a good sign.

The most I laughed was at "Arcade Fire promote mass shirt ripping." Thought the Jon Hamm episode was really entertaining, but this was a trainwreck.

Arcade Fire had two great performances, the rest was pretty terrible. The best sketch was the child actor one and that (like all of their sketches) felt like a good one premise joke that was somehow extended into a 6 minute sketch.

like the ceramic busts skit much of last night's episode was a bust.

i do love it when the squishy is thrown in Wig's face though.

Jay pharoah doing another denzel impersonation was pretty solid and arcade fire was great.

Although I don't want Fred armisen to leave I wish he'd step down from the Obama spot. Pharoah's is so much better.

I lol'd IRL when Hader, in sequence, spat his own slushee, grabbed wiig's and threw it in her face, and then grabbed some pasta(?) and dumped it on her head. I'm not sure if she knew it was coming because she almost cracked but it was great.

Yeah, the near break in that scene was the best part, though it was a pretty awesome scene even if they did basically the same sketch with Taylor Swift.

The rest was mostly miss with a little hit here and there. The child actors was great but not much else stood out for me. The ceramic busts was clearly a rip off of the Tina-Tina Chaneuse one that Jenny Slate did and wasnt remotely as good.

Is the train film really as bad as it looks from the fake trailer btw?

Nope, you have it backwards. This was ScarJo's 3rd time doing the sketch (chandeliers, marble columns, busts) and her first time easily predates Slate.

And yes, bad episode.

The ScarJo episode was horrible. This season has been so bad.

Who is the headwriter for the show now? Is it Seth Meyers? If so he sucks.

Oh, and to the SNL writers who are of course reading this thread:

Guys - we get it - ScarJo can pull off a decent Brooklyn-ghetto accent. But maybe next time she hosts, give the fans what they want, and put her in a bikini for a couple skits.

Thanks a bunch!

I thought it was ok this week, made it through a few skits without hitting FF at least. Million dollar match maker was pretty good I thought and the slushie on wigs head was funny.

Is that Hathaway one coming up a new one? The last one she hosted was one of my favorite SNLs in years. I even rewatched a few of the skits and the ultimate seal of approval: got my wife to watch a few of the skits.

yea, its new next week. thought this episode was really bad, and the season has sucked overall

my highlight of the season was the weekend update skit with John Mulaney doing "I love it" not sure who he even is (i think just a writer for the show, may have made a previous appearance once) but 'i loved it' ....hope they bring him back.

I like Denzel movie parody. It would help if every single person didn't sound like they from Long Island when doing impersonations.

No one else thought something was wrong with the mix on Arcade Fire's performances? We Used to Wait was so flat.

Ugh, the i love it stuff is terrible. It is a one line joke dragged to a 5 minute sketch, twice, and the guy cant pull off anything interesting from it.

no love for Anne Hathaway? I thought she was the best host of the season so far. Aside from Amy Poehler obv but we all know she was a ringer =]

Finally a decent episode. Hathaway was easily one of the best of the season. Her Katie Holmes and Dorothy/Judy Garalnd impressions were great. A pretty strong episode overall but for the love of all that is holy can someone tell (force) Wiig to retire Penelope.

Next week will probably be awful with DeNiro. I'm expecting dry and monotone.

After 4 or 5 good seasons the decline started last year and continues. This year may rank as one of the low points in SNL history. They lost a lot of firepower with Fey, Pohler, Forte and Hammond stepping down and none of the newbs have stepped up. The Slate and Watkins firings were just strange - I thought both had good potential - more so than Abby Elliot who somehow remains. Pedrad is excellent and the fact she remains a featured player while Eilliot was moved up to the regular cast is a testament to the show's current struggles. Even the Lonely Island's Digital Shorts have lost their edge.
