i obviously tried to pick two shows that are generally thought of by this forum as much worse than silicon valley. with that said, i have never seen HIMYM.

That was excellent. Too bad they blew the “this guy ****s” line for the robot ****er without Hanneman

o_O

- everything gavin belson - who cares
- we are back to jared the caricature with terrible forced lines about his childhood
- robot stuff pretty creepy and not funny, but at least they tried something new
- lip stuff and especially gilfoyle's reaction - very funny indeed
- manure was good. another nice gilfoyle reaction shot.

there were a couple of good adrian grenier lines. also a decent bit with the switchblade.

at this point the show is largely just sight gags.

I like having the guru back. He was great in small doses.

Put me firmly in the camp that didn't like the episode. It's not so much that it was unfunny - it just wasn't funny, if that makes sense. There's enough periodic cleverness, satire and character recall (last week with Bighead this week with the shifty guru) to keep me watching, but the decline in overall quality is quite pronounced.

Rizz,

There used to be a coherent plot/storyline to serve as a foundation/backdrop for the jokes. Now it’s just a series of largely disconnected, contrived, over the top situations serving as a flimsy excuse to drop in a bunch of generic lowbrow jokes.

I agree with you completely. The worst part is it's not so much laziness, although I can't rule that out completely. It's more so a case of morphing into the realm of pure sitcoms, warts and all. The core characters are stale, and no new characters can be injected since the writers are so focused on just the episode they're writing. We watch, hoping things will go back to how they once were, but more and more that seems impossible, which is a shame.

Jin Yang is probably the worst character of all-time. His only redeeming quality was getting **** on by Erlich.

The 'story' has been told. Options now are to more or less repeat that same story or have a regular sitcom where the story doesn't really matter or just cancel the show.

How many sitcoms are out there that had 5+ seasons with a compelling story? From stuff that aired recently, only Veep comes to my mind and they are going to end it after next season.

At least it's no Prison Break where just the thought of everything beyond the first season is pretty absurd.

Was the 2nd season that bad? First one was great as far as I remember, but I don't really remember much about the next seasons except that in 3rd (?) they were in that Mexican (?) prison.

Like Heroes, it's commonly referred to as one of the best 1 season shows of all time, that should have never seen a second.

As a stand-alone show season 2 wouldn’t have been terrible. But it came after a really good season that totally closed the story. The only reason to continue that show was to make money. Almost like if James Cameron made “Titanic 2 - Kate Winslet’s character opens a coffee shop in London”.

Another thing that Prison Break and Heroes have in common is a totally unnecessary reboot.

The startup world made for compelling stories for three seasons of Silicon Valley and occasionally they still come up with good stuff but I fear things like the Christian thing will be the standard of “new” stuff they come up with.

I thought having an episode that was a little Twilight Zone style was a refreshing change of pace.

What was the line from Jared about the corner, turning a trick and oxy? His delivery and Richard's reaction was perfect.

Sometimes you have to numb yourself. If you wanna work the corner you can't fall in love every time you turn a trick. That's why you do the oxy.
