Anyone else look up to see if the CoO was related to Owen Wilson? (he isn't)

I was concerned about no more tj Miller but still really enjoying this show.

I mean who gives a crap about story line or continuity on a thirty minute comedy really?

COO was the TV anchor that Robin dates in HIMYM. Don’t think he’s done much else of note.

I think he was in season 3 of Masters of Sex.

i dont understand how the jin yang thing is a real threat, is it going to be a short plot line or was it just an end of episode joke? as a shareholder he didnt have access to the tech or anything, so someone who has been portrayed as kind of an idiot is supposed to be rivaling pp by hiring some random code monkeys?

Give it a rewatch. I was only half paying attention and I still caught when Gilfoyle said Jian Yang was always stealing food so he could have stolen their code too. Stealing food != stealing code, but the point is he did have access to all their stuff and he is pretty underhanded.

Also, Jian Yang is definitely not portrayed as an idiot- maybe you’re thinking of Big Head. His English and awareness of American cultural norms sucks, but he’s certainly one of the more intelligent characters on the show.

the guy who made "sea food", "not hot dog", and passed off a cremated pig as bachmann isn't portrayed as an idiot?

episode didn't do anything for me again. gonna keep watching just in case but not expecting much

Not surprised that someone as racist as you doesn’t understand this, but yeah... Jian Yang is meant to portray the humor in language/cultural miscommunication.

Maybe it’s somewhat clumsily done. Or maybe it’s a bit of an inside joke for the writers and they’re laughing at people like you who don’t get it.

maybe they should put more effort into making the audience laugh instead of themselves

Jin Yang is definitely portrayed as being somewhat of an idiot. His ideas are all uninspired and mostly horrible. Even if he has some access to some of their old code from when they lived with him, he would not have the ability to copy it. It took them the manpower for >20 people plus Richard putting in 40 hour sessions of programming to advance the new internet to be anything usable. Someone stealing pieces of this process could do nothing to make the finished product.

Did you watch the episode? Jin Yang was always stealing snacks from the office and “could have lifted it from anywhere” (quote Gilfoyle). As far as the viewer knows, he probably has the final code the messenger feature went live with.

Bighead to the rescue!

haha same, that was the one bit i actually laughed at. it is a pretty funny gag, but it's also last week's joke.

i mean does anyone actually think that if you grabbed the writers from HIMYM or the young sheldon and gave them a day they'd come up with something worse than this? zero chance imo. it's just so completely terrible.

Not sure why you use HIMYM as an example, they had their fair share of ridiculously bad episodes. The bottom 10% of HIMYM episodes are magnitudes below what we saw on Silicon Valley last week. That said, I wasn't a huge fan of that episode and storyline either.
