no memorable scenes at all for me. jian yang and lawyer was the funniest one but obviously doesnt come close to the highest points of the series

Miller's long-winded answers in the interview linked from that article are so, so great

I swear to God, that's why the internet broke. Everybody was like, "What the f— are you talking about? You're on this successful show. Don't you want three more years of solid acting work and don't you want to be a famous television actor?" And I was like, "No, not really." I'd like to parasail into the Cannes Film Festival for The Emoji Movie because that's the next new funny thing that will make people laugh.
Quote:
So that all interested me, and most of all it made me laugh really hard. That was the impetus behind walking. That's sort of the impetus behind everything I do: It just makes me laugh. It's not about money, it's not about any of that stuff. It's certainly not about fame, which is destructing my relationships with my family. It's about things that are interesting and funny.

I was sick of telling my wife in earnest, "I'm going to slow down the schedule. We'll have more time to spend in New York." And even when I thought of leaving, she said, "Look, man, this is a character people love. They feel like they're friends with him." And although that makes for a terrible time at the airport because everybody high-fives me, grabbing your ass on the way to your f—ing plane to Omaha, Nebraska, to do stand-up comedy — these people want to know...
Quote:
I'm not an actor; I'm a comedian. And I don't know how the f— I hoodwinked Hollywood into giving me a career in this. But I'm not sitting here saying, "I need more lines. I'm not funny enough." I'm not Thomas Middleditch. I'm me, the guy that thinks all of this is sort of ridiculous. It was a joke. Leaving was a joke that I thought would be a good joke because the show would grow and change. It seemed like a funny trick to play on everyone. It's just like, what if Kramer [Michael Richards] left in the middle of Seinfeld's height? And also what if that guy never said the N-word on a stage?
Quote:
Erlich failed to prove to be meaningful or of any value to Pied Piper, and so he pivoted. That's what every company in Silicon Valley does. That's what America is. There is failure, but we pivot. My departure will do the same. Instead of dying, like everybody in my family would love, I go and make The Emoji Movie. It's worse for American culture.
Quote:
I don't know how smart [Alec] is. He went to Harvard, and we all know those kids are f—ing idiots. That Crimson trash.
Quote:
I have a movie at DreamWorks. And then the people that don't are like stupid f—ing websites like TV Overmind or something, and they're putting forth very reasonable, well-written logic for why this is so dumb and the only thing I'll ever be good at was this part in Silicon Valley. Yet none of them have seen Yogi Bear 3D, so they're all talking and chit-chattering and squawk, squawk, squawk — but none of them have seen Yogi Bear 3D. So they don't know that I've already done the best thing that I'll ever do. And because of that, there is no fear about any move in Hollywood for me. I'm just on the downslope.
I enjoyed reading that interview 10x more than watching his stand-up special

Goofy,

I thought it was pretty funny how complimentary he was towards everyone involved except the one guy Alec who he simply hates. And I guess he doesn’t love middleditch, but he sounds much more ambivalent about that relationship.

episode was hilarious. i laughed out loud several times.... when jared tripped over the outlet and richard said "see, plenty of outlets".... when gavin fired that woman for telling the truth and said "or we could all end up like pam" .... when jared said he knows what's like to have to sacrifice half his family to save the other half

lol at anyone giving a crap about the plot or what's going on in the story

I’d much rather care too much about the plot than so little that I don’t even know the name of a character who appeared in 15 episodes. And I probably wouldn’t use a random name inside quotation marks if I didn’t know the right one.

It looks like they're still going to stick to the single episode sitcom tropes that plagued last season; however, this seemed a step up in pacing and humor. Hopefully this won't be a case of a standout premiere then a gradual decline after that. I will say though if this is where Jian Yang's character is headed I don't have high hopes.

Laughed a lot, great episode. First scene in the awful office room was awesome and everything that happened after didn't disappoint either.

Hasn't been mentioned yet but everything surrounding Lori's pregnancy, delivery, and return to work the same day as induction was fantastic. Her storylines have had some of my favorite one off lines the last two seasons.

I agree with that. I hated her character at first but she is good in small doses. The pregnancy return to work scene was well done.

Finally watched it. Entourage for nerds has fully morphed into Revenge of the nerds. HBO can do better than this trash can fire. Married with children reruns @ 6am > Silicon Valley S5

There’s a very real chance Married..with Children will be back once Modern Family’s run is over and Superior Donuts gets canceled.

Interesting to see what happens with Home Improvement. After Roseanne, that would be the most plausible next reboot. But as we know, things didn’t end well between Tim Allen and ABC last year after they canned Last Man Standing because of the pro-Trump message.

Are there any indications about the total number of seasons HBO plans for Silicon Valley?

Last Man Standing was pretty good. They should bring that back on instead of rebooting Home Improvement.

Agreed, the pregnancy jokes were hilarious. My wife was pregnant during the last season. Whenever I saw another pregnant woman in public, I'd get her attention, and very seriously say "<Wife's name>, that woman is also pregnant".

I thought the S5 premier was pretty uneven. Pizza douche was just annoying AF and not funny. Jared, Jian Yang, and the scene in the hell office were hilarious.

There were funny moments in the episode, but it sucked overall. Too much Richard, and while Jin Yang is funny in smaller doses, he can't really be shoehorned into a large role because it loses what makes him so great in the first place. Also, half of the humor in his role comes from his interplay with Erlich.

They should just find a new Erlich and basically just have him take over a similar role/position to what Erlich was to the show, because as it stands I don't see any previously introduced character on the show who can fill his void.
