I think the show is really incredibly well produced. E1 and part of 2 were a little confusing but seems to have settled in nicely.

I particularly enjoy the attention to detail in terms of the customs and way of Japanese life while still retaining an interesting developing conflict. Really threads that needle quite well.

The British lead is meh...I can't tell what it is but his speech affect is annoying. But I like that the character tries to adjust to the Japanese rather than just be some complete buffoon throughout which it easily could have done.

The scene in the brothel where Mariko is translating Kiku's explanation of the Willow World was superbly written and directed. Kiku's words are actually Mariko's thoughts. Positioning the camera so you can't see Kiku while she's talking, only Mariko, was genius.

Honestly the moment was hilarious with the tough kid who won his only battle with the cheap shot cannon going in for the kill and slips on his skirt and breaks his own neck.

Toranaga is cold as ice. Except he can be compassionate. While being ready to use any means to achieve his goals. A+ writing, performance, everything. Episode 8 was so, so good.

This was probably my favorite episode of the season. The scene with Mariko and Kata was really well acted. Seems like we are going to be left on the cliffhanger of war next episode though which is blue balls

Great episode. Yabushige is such a mother****er but you can't help but like him and his ability to survive. Should be lots of Emmy nominations from this show with the actress playing Mariko and the actor playing Yabushige at the top of the list. Can't wait for the finale. It's been a great show with just about no filler.

Yeah, showrunners have said the season is a complete story and there are no immediate plans for S2. Clavell wrote several other historical novels set in Asia, so maybe they'll adapt one of those. I think Shogun was easily the most successful though.
