Brilliant acting from Adams partially overcomes a ridiculous plot.

100%. I thought the finale was pretty intense, despite the nonsensical elements (like why she'd knowingly let mommy poison her).

I enjoyed this quite a lot. It was def uncomfortable to watch (intentional) and a bit of a grind (probably not intentional) though. I thought the final twist and flashback-reveal was great!

I read the book a while ago and really enjoyed it, but iv been holding off on watching till most or all eps are out so I can binge if worthy.
In the last 18mths or so i also read The Circle and Ready Player One which both soon after were movified and found the books to be so much better in both cases.
So much gets left out due to time constraints and it’s usually the lil nuances/backstories that add so much to the overall tale but I was hopeful this would be better as it’s multi ep. The post above hints it’s still not as detailed as the book
Yeah well you know what I like about the movie versions...?

off topic, Led Zeppelin is notorious for not letting folks use their music in TV and movies. How much ****ing money did HBO pay those guys to use like 8 songs or whatever?

Was wondering the same thing. The only other time I can recall Zeppelin being in a TV show or a movie was in Almost Famous and I figured it was a favor to Cameron Crowe or someone else in the music business

two recent ones spring to mind immediately, one very good, one, uh, not great

So Affleck described the process where he got Zeppelin to let him use the song and was basically like I had to personally meet the guys, show them the movie multiple times, explain why we wanted to use the song. And only then would they let Affleck pay them a boatload of money to use the song. They had to be convinced that it was being used in a way they approved of and the artistic merit of the use specifically and the project generally.

HOW DID ENTOURAGE CONVINCE THEM????

Some of you neckbeards don't seem to understand the concept of fiction. This is a made up story not a documentary. It never happened, never will happen and never would happen. It's not supposed to be realistic in any way.

Do you guys also hate Arrested Development just because it's highly implausible that someone would hide cash in a banana stand?

Also lol @ the standard bookreader idiot here to tell us all about how the book is way better. No one gives a **** about your books. This is OOTV not OOBOOK.

Fiction generally consists of a plot. If the plot is ridiculous, the work of fiction generally suffers.

Comparison to Arrested Development is a good one though. Both shows were hilarious. Intentionally drinking rat poison, floor made of human teeth, "don't tell mama"... I loled.

I think the biggest problem with the show is that the nature of the story combined with the director's ties to Big Little Lies, prevented HBO from accurately portraying what the series was about without spoiling a lot of the shock-value moments.

People hear a new series from the director of BLL and assume it's primarily a straightforward murder mystery, when in fact Sharp Objects uses a murder mystery as a backdrop to do an in-depth character study of someone who was a survivor of Munchausen by Proxy. The show was by NO means perfect, but I think a lot of the hate is centered around the misrepresentation by HBO in it's promotion of the show.
