Camille Preaker, a crime reporter recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital after years of self-harming, returns to her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri, to investigate the murders of two young girls. The assignment takes her back to her childhood home under the critical eye of small-town socialite Adora, which forces Preaker to confront some personal demons.

Started tonight on HBO.

I Iiked the first episode, it had a very similar vibe as True Detective season 1.

Interesting. It's not quite southern gothic, but it's a close cousin.

reviewers have seen 7 of the 8, standard for HBO. that was super smart by them when it came to true detective!

anyway, it has good reviews and i thought that was a great first episode.

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing for the prospects of the show, but from the 1st 15 minutes I realized I had read the book, and have no memory of how it ends.

My wife said the same exact thing. She swears she read it, but can’t remember much.

I like it so far.

I'd watch anything with Amy Adams.

Who the hell was the girl in the mirror and the girl sitting on the bench in her house?

I liked the first episode a lot. Hope it holds up.

granted ep 2 was slower (and i was extremely tired which didn't help), but ep 1 was very good.

Episode 1 and 2 were not that exciting yet but were freakish and it has potential. It seems borrowed form True Detective season 1, The Killing (2011 U.S. TV series), Three Billboards, and a even a little Twin-Peakish too. No idea what year its supposed to be set in. The tropes include an "intrepid" reporter with serious psych issues, a serial murderer of teens, some LBGQT touches of course, and the most god-awful small townspeople smack near the really humid population center of the US. Just watching it makes me sweat. The one-second flashbacks bug me a bit. Who can follow those without DVR playback? Not sure why Camille , as a teen, would cut her her that short either. Camille's mother and her home seem like she's in a different movie, a Tennesse Williams movie. She needs some new lines besides "Stop that....". Will continue to watch to see if Amy Adams will cut any more letters into her arm while driving and drinking fake water from a bottle that has Vodka (?) while the town teen girls are laughing while roller blading around drunk right after their fellow teens murders.

You recommended the Gomarroh TV series, where each episode has at least one brutal cold-blooded murder of all sorts of people including civilians, but it took that "cut" scene to bother you? huh?

ep. 3 Camille is a real mess and Wind Gap is full of creepy adults and kids and we are no further in finding the murderer or a motive, and nobody in the town has a clue it seems.
Camille has the word "scared" (I think) cut into her car door and other words cut into her body. Hard to watch Amy Adams in a role like this.

I’m thoroughly intrigued by what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. I’m certainly interested in the story but if this show doesn’t pussy out towards the end, it’s gonna be a brutal and nasty end that I might regret having watched.

I like the show although super dark. But wtf is going on? They just keep teasing you with her flashbacks. But soon I think I need to find out what's the deal with her mother, what happened to her, and what does she know from her past that helps find the killer?

Near the end of last episode it looks like I light bulb popped in her head and we will find something out finally. So that's good. I still got no idea who it is and I usually can pick the killer fairly early. I got one guess right now but total wild guess.
