because it was perfect for them and he put a lot of work into renovating it so the homeless could live there. and because it was the only one until the end of the episode when Fiona found the other one (and that’s why it was eventually okay). but for the majority of their fighting, the church was the only spot available
I think the escalation was from what I originally said about how he wanted to be a hero to Trevor so he could win him back. I mean, let’s not forget he went to the philanthropist’s house and went down on the guy’s wife to get $ for this when Trevor thought it would be impossible. So then it looked like it was gonna happen until Fiona swooped in at the end and took it from him so she could raise the rent on her apartments. Trevor was puzzled but he didn’t know what Ian did to get the $ for it, and then it definitely became personal with Fiona but I don’t think that was unreasonable or uncharacteristic at all given what led up to it
