My own totally-not-thought-out theory on this is that our Rick (C-138) somehow created the multiverse. But, he did so while accidentally killing his wife. So, the multiverse started just as his wife died and therefore she doesn't exist anywhere.

There's not really any supporting evidence.

man even bad Rick n Morty is so much more fun than 99% of the crap on TV I can't imagine giving up.

that being said I do agree this season has been the worst by a large margin.

Well I would say it's more like two shows. One show is Mr. Meeseeks, Noobnoob, Gazorpazorp, the purge. I would have a pretty hard time listing shows with more pitch-perfect humor than those.

On the other hand there's Pickle rick, that Giant arm thing, or the first episode of this season - totally self indulgent philosophizing/plot devices with none of the humor or razor sharp commentary that made the show what it was. It's kinda like a fancy restaurant that uses special ingredients but forgets to make the food taste good - soulless. I could easily rattle off ten shows I'd rather REWATCH than that. That's just IMO anyway. Obviously the writing staff is incredibly talented - but sometimes these shows lose their X factor. Someone can probably explain what I'm saying a bit more scientifically... I just think something's off.

It's very subjective some people love pickle Rick and some hate it and yet for me pickle Rick would end up in your first category which is the one I like the least.

No matter what any Rick and morty is great story telling. Some of it is more meme friendly while other parts are depressing.
But People expectations are super high and will judge it much harder than a star wars fan who will enjoy hot garbage like the mandolarian because being in his favourite universe is more important than a decent script.

They both are good on first viewing but my least favorites to rewatch

I rewatched the Mortynight Run episode the other night and was actually shocked at how much less I enjoyed it the second time around, whereas other ones also rewatched recently, like Lawnmower Dog and Morty's Mind Blowers, held up nicely. All obviously subjective.

It's interesting to me how varied opinions are in here about this show's episodes in general. I agree that something feels "off" about this season but I'm still enjoying it enough that I've never been remotely close to contemplating being done with the show.

I'd guess Harmon is in a weird middleground where hes not happy enough to be inspired that way, but not miserable enough to inspired that way either. All his best work was based around his self loathing after his divorce.

I'd take a guess that what feels "off" is hes going through the motions instead of taking inspiration.

yeah i agree in a case like this it's probably something to do with one of the writers losing the fire.
