He went to Cornell which is where you go when you can't get into an actual Ivy and isn't accomplished in anything other than his show which exists on satire and satire only. I'm just not sure what his appeal could possibly be.

I haven't watched his program since probably 2007. I was, actually, pretty surprised it was still on the air, as I stated previously itt. Seems like he has just been grandfathered into that prime Friday at midnight time slot on HBO. I know sitting at home watching "Real Time with Bill Maher" is what I am doing on a Friday night.

I watch the show very infrequently, and I have to say that I more or less agree with JAAASH.

I used to love his show, but it's just gotten tired, and as I've become more skeptical, his moral and intellectual pedestal has crumbled in my eyes. He's far better than O'Reilly, in that he does consistently have fairly diverse panels, and dissenting views are given airtime. But in the end his smug unoriginal preaching tends to be cringe inducing and reeks the advanced stages of echo-chamber syndrome. Mind you, I say all of this while agreeing with many of his positions.

Ummmm, you may be interested in learning about this new device that was invented recently called a DVR. It allows you to record a show while it airs and then watch it any time you want to afterwards. Really groundbreaking tech advancement.

That said, while I do agree with much of what you said about Maher himself, I still enjoy the show.

Many that don't like the show don't agree with his opinions. The difference between him and Fox per say is he has guests with different views and treats them with respect.
Still enjoy it even some weeks when the guests are lacking.

Yeah crazy guy calling a story about a 900 year old man loading all the animals on a boat and than that mans god killing everyone else Stupid

I went to a taping of the show in the fall. Everything seemed very small and the guests kind of sucked but overall it was pretty fun.

Haven't watched this in a very long time.

Is he still taking the Bible literally?

 no, just making fun of those that do. He recently cited a poll that showed some ridiculous number of Americans (if memory serves it was more than 50 percent, but definitely over 30 percent) believe in the story of noah, literally

lol "i haven't actually seen the show i'm critiquing in 7 years but still feel qualified to speak on it with authority".

i'm not a huge maher fan, i align with him ideologically but don't find him particularly funny.
his opening monologues and "new rules" are pretty awful, but his panel discussions are interesting (granted i only watch occasionally so my sample is limited)

however your posts are def LOLworthy.

his stand up is meh.

New Rules is more precisely written and frequently hilarious.

latest episode brought something up that i still don't get. ok, you're setting at a table of people having a discussion, they're all clearly saying the word nuclear and you're hearing it, and you still say "nuk-u-lar" when you're speaking. does she sit there thinking everyone else is sounding stupid because they're the ones pronouncing it wrong?

That was the least of my dislike of last nights show. That Pussy Riot interview was agonizing with the language barrier

Pussy Riot was a lot better on Colbert. That was an awful interview last night, took way too long. Panel was terrible.

I'm in the minority it appears but I still really enjoy the show. The monologues are pretty bland and the quality of each show depends heavily on the guests but I've always liked that Maher calls bull**** out when he sees it, and that's pretty frequent considering there's at least one Republican on every panel. The problem Maher has is that he can come off looking like a pretentious d-bag to outside observers and that gets exacerbated when he doesn't come to the table prepared with knowledge of all the issues. Overall though he's right a hell of a lot more than he's wrong, and he's great at pointing out hypocricy when he sees it.

Haven't really watched in years due to lack of HBO (I would otherwise), but I really hate his audience. Wild applause for anything that sounds remotely like a "smart" liberal talking point. Then at various times there's awkward or uncertain applause/laughter. Many of the guests are playing to the audience rather than trying to have a real conversation. Seriously, the show gets significantly better if they tell the audience to shut the **** up.

Remember immediately after Kimmel and Sarah Silverman broke up he had Silverman on in a really transparent attempt to sleep with her? It was so obvious and sleazy (she essentially says as much several times throughout the interview).

Show is still great. Haven't noticed a fall off at all.

And yeah the audience is miserable, but its fun when Maher makes fun of them which is pretty often.

Bill Maher treats his republican guests with respect unlike Fox treats its democratic guests.

Love few people boo his Jesus joke and he is like are you stupid do you know what I am about.

Though I find it funny that Maher questions a 900 old man putting all the worlds animals in a boat and he gets death threats yet Jon Stewart nothing. Bill Maher is easy to hate for the right

Yet you yourself say "setting" at a table instead of sitting.
