Just in case you're using my comment as an example of an internet nerd getting rustled, let me just be clear, I've never read a comic book in my life. I'm a big movie buff so I'll go see the Marvel films (usually high off my ass) but I'm very far from someone who is part of the comic book culture in any way. But for Maher to not only talk about comic books as if they don't have any artistic or cultural value, or are actually in fact part of what makes our culture suck (that it somehow adds to the stunted growth of adults) is an embarrassingly ignorant take.
Storytelling is one of the greatest aspects of our species, and a large chunk of that has been a fascination with stories of supernatural beings, beings, with superhuman abilities, etc. It's the basis of most of the myths and religions of our species' cultures. The fact that the modern version of that is manifested in books with pictures shouldn't take away from the fact that it's a tradition as old as our most primitive cultures. Choosing to crap on comic books is akin to when older white folks can't even bring themselves to acknowledge that rap is a legitimate genre of music. It's beyond idiotic.
