The idea that every parent should be making an independent decision on this based on nothing but their own intuition is horribly dangerous, especially when you're not presenting them with all of the facts first and just filling their heads with scary anecdotes instead.

Sure there's a grain of truth to the idea that science is always evolving and that those in the scientific community should always be open to further research and impartial analysis of new data, but that's not an actionable message for a mass audience. Their only takeaway is going to be that their favorite TV host told them that doctors don't know anything about anything and he was backed up by a sensible-sounding authority, which is exactly how the seeds of these awful ideas get planted in people's heads. The anti-vax movement is not just crazy soccer moms, it's guys like this who give dumb people permission to think they know better than their doctors and provide quotes for their Facebook memes.
Ah, but I think Bill assumes his audience is not dumb.

Bill called the audience sheep on Overtime because they weren't clapping for the doctor. On climate change he says we must believe the scientists because they're the experts. On vaccines he says we can't believe the scientists because they're always wrong. Doesn't make sense.

I watched the show and I do not believe that is what he said

Bill needs his upcoming vacation I think. Last night's show he was insisting to Sherrod Brown that Credence Clearwater Revival was from Ohio. Sherrod was like, WTF are you talking about?

He also made an Anthony Weiner joke during the monologue that landed with such a thud it was actually uncomfortable.

The Weiner thing was a reference to what he had done, not really meant to be a joke.

Bill Maher was on Joe Rogan Friday . First hour talking about the old days of comedy. Last hour was good. Funny Bill trying to get Joe on his show

Last nights show was pretty good. I thought Nancy Pelosi was baiting Trump as she knew he would be watching accidentally of course

Thought Yang and panel was good as well

She just seems awkward in an interview. Not very personable.

Ok show

After Trump, I think the bar has been set to the ground on personable. I’ll settle for someone who is smart, civil, and doesn’t spend their term trashing our constitution.

That sounds like a pretty awesome party. Stern used to be great I listened to him everyday on the way to school. He's not the same entertainer. I think he breaks it down on his Conan podcast appearance.

I am actually liking Bill's show lately from his home. The one on one interviews are preferable to the panels, where everyone is trying to be funny or talk over each other. Even Andrew Sullivan was tolerable in this format.

I actually get a kick out of the over the top laugh track during his monologue, complete with the fake old audience footage.

Yeah the way they've handled no audience has been the best!

I never liked Andrew Sullivan on the show but had some huge sympathy for him and the fear he must be living with that catching Covid may be a death sentence and living in NY of all places

Shows been good

Anybody know why Bill gets so much hate on SM? It seems to always come from the left too. I'm starting to think these are liberal bot accounts as it happens like clockwork lol

I've been watching him for 20+ years and don't understand the haters. He tells the Dems where they need to hear, but they usually never listen to his advice.

I don't follow him, but a few guesses on what can get libtards fired up. He tells dems they are inept and full of nebbish and pussies. He's an idiot when it comes to science. He says some religions like islam are more dangerous than others. He says stuff some may see as misogynistic.

I thi k the things that have been most devisive coming from Bill the last couple years are his CONSTANT harping on "cancel culture." We get it Bill. You're a libertarian, you dont have to bring it up every episode.

This past year it was his consistent and non stop whining about attempts at stopping the spread of coronavirus because he doesnt like to do shows from his home without an audience. "Oh boo hoo, I have to broadcast from my mansion in LA. Woe is me. We must end the madness"

When Bill Maher decides that the idiotic talking point of the idiotic president "the cure cannot be worse than the disease" is correct, then he has completely lost the thread of most of the people who are tuning in.

I think Maher is very hit or miss. I don't love him, but I don't have the intense hate either.

One thing that puzzles me is a good portion of cancel culture is quintessentially libertarian. If you don't like something someone says or does then you (and others) voluntarily choose not to interact with or do business with them. It's basically the cornerstone of a ton of libertarian arguments, yet when it happens exactly this way he is often extremely disturbed.

Bill's problem is that he himself got cancelled and was maddddddddd about it. He has never let it go, and he will hold onto it until the day he dies. Yes, as a libertarian he should have absolutely no problem with ABC cancelling his show, for literally any reason, but since it happened to him personally, it's terrible and must be harped on at every opportunity. It is pure hypocricy
