love how they spent all of season 1 with ray trying to get rid of Mickey only to start season 2 with ray trying to bring him back.

Struggled through the entire premiere. That was really, really stupid.

I don't know why I watch this show. Showtime has earned no loyalty from me as a network. This show has yet to actually do it for me at all.

the only home run I can think of on showtime is shameless which is legit elite.
ray has so much potential but the writers are ******ed.

Exactly on both. 5 seasons deep and Shamelss has only gotten better. Everything else... nah.

I think that potential-that-will-never-be-reached is probably why I watch.

Maybe this has been said ITT before, but I'm watching Manchurian Candidate with DENZEL and the actor who portrays Ray Donovan is in this move, and so is Jon Voight lol. I believe they are related (I am only a few minutes in so far...). Just feels weird.

Edit: Oh I forgot to mention the main part, Rays character in this movie is named Raymond.

I don't think Schrieber and voight are related.
voight is Angelina Jolie's dad IIRC.

Yeah this show is pretty bad still...I watch it in the background at times, but it is so bad. Hopefully his kids die in some car wreck where wife drives them off a bridge.

And for Showtime other than Shameless, S1 of Master of Sex is elite too. Those two are it imo.

Yeah, Masters of Sex is too good for Showtime so I forget that's where it is sometimes. Shameless is kind of right in Showtime's wheelhouse, so I'm surprised it hasn't gotten bad yet.

So much this. One of the most under-achieving shows of all time IMO. Premise is great, lead actors are excellent. But completely underwhelming plot lines and some terribad supporting characters.

If someone said, "Make a Hollywood crime show with Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, Elliot Gould and Trixie from Deadwood" you almost couldn't help but make a much better show than this.

this whole FBI story line is LOLdumb (and i LOVE hank azaria).

also its pretty clear the writers are just making **** up as they go along and have absolutely zero over-arching plan for the series.

they've painted themselves into a corner with mickey multiple times and its just getting ridic at this point (but since he's the best character on the show they have no choice but to keep coming up with ludicrous reasons to keep him around).

i literally LOL'd when after an entire season of "gotta get rid of mickey" they open up the 2nd season with "gotta find mickey and get him back"

i mean jesus this makes the plot lines of entourage look like shakespeare.

also, why is it that some shows cast TERRIBLE child actors?

GoT and shameless ****ing crushed their casting, why on earth would donovan **** the bed so abysmally?

surely there are more good child actors out there? don't the showrunners look at a show like shameless or GoT n think "hey we should prolly hire some quality child actors if we're gonna have them play a prominent role in the show".....

just blows my mind.

edit: i mean why not cast the girl from justified (who's dad was killed by mags) as the daughter and a ****ing giant piece of cardboard for the son (would be a massive improvement)?

the badass Israeli dude who works with/for ray is one of my fav characters, and obv ray is great.

but my fav scene of whole series was prolly when ray's older brother knocked that dude out in the bar who was talking ****.

james woods killed it for sure, was sad to see him go.

they're killing off all the wrong characters.

hopefully someone murders ray's family and the rest of the series is him just going super dark revenge mode.

I think I'm done. I want the show to be good but it just isn't.

That wasn't very good last night. I feel with just a little bit better writing and less over acting this show might be watchable.

I guess I'm just sucker for marketing. I like deadwood, bb, sopranos etc. show time advertises this cleverly and says if I like those shows I will like ray Donovan. I say okay. I watch, get annoyed that it's stupid and has never made any sense, yet I watch every Sunday. He'll I don't even record and watch on Monday or Tuesday, I literally watch it Sunday night. I cant explain it. It's a dumb show but I always look forward to it. So poorly written in parts, so under developed in most parts. Dunno. Looking forward to next Sunday
