That episode was so strange and out of character, especially at the end that I couldn't decide whether I loved it or it was strain wreck. Noticed it was directed by liev schrieber. Don't know if he does that often.

Was hoping they were setting up that guy with bunchy for something more sinister. That payoff kinda sucked.

I thought bunchy was gonna get drunk and either beat him to death with his bare hands ... Or blow him

This season is growing on me. Ray is not as cheesy and one dimensional as last season. It's not great and the plot is weak (is there even one this season?) but it's watchable.

how is ray not as cheesy and one dimensional this season? he's still some washed up egotistical blockhead terrible husband/father (that somehow manages to always be the toughest guy in the room, i guess because he's from BOSTON), and if anything, he's been even more cold and uninvolved in his brothers' lives.

are you just talking about when he didn't want to shake down his old friend for the money she pledged to ezra (and later did anyway)?

this show is so ****ing scrubby, and all i ever hear about it is how it broke viewership records for a showtime pilot. so tilting WHY DO I EVEN WATCH THIS DUMB ****

I started watching this show on vacation with my old lady on her iPad, is Ray supposed to be a lightweight or former drinker? Also lol at the mixed son busting up the car with a baseball bat. Rays son also might be the worst kid actor of all time, all that said I watch this on the reg

Yeah, finding a 16yo actress attractive doesn't make you a pedo. But finding Bridget attractive might mean something else is wrong with you.

I don't know how i continue to watch this show (and will likely continue to do so). This was the best episode in awhile if only because of the ending and a few directorial choices I felt. Still horrible. They need to reframe this show as a dark comedy with Ray just doing his fixing business. Maybe he hires Bunchy as one of his PI's and his kids and wife hilariously die in some car explosion while listening to a Sox game.

IMO the best thing that could happen on this show going forward is Ray's wife along with his kids dying in a tragic car accident or w/e.

Edit: face palm, just read the above post....

Show Runner just bolted. Money reasons. Don't know if it'll be good or bad for the show, but based on how quick it got bad, might not be the worst thing that could've happened to this show.

Not only is that dude a closet pedo, but he is also a closet pedo with the worst taste in underage girls. Double pedo whammy (DPW).

If it wasn't before it is now, show is beyond saving. However I look forward to Ray ****ing up Cookie and his crew. They really messed up with this show, there was a lot of potential.

The family is the problem. Kill them off in fiery crash, let one brother move to Ireland, send the other to jail for molesting his new gf's kid, and center show around Voight/Ray/ 2 assistants, and 2 lawyers. Having Ray have problematic relationships with everyone is the issue. If it was just complicated with father it would be bearable. But the same weird passive aggressive tension with dad, brothers, wife, etc is just too much. It's basically the same dynamic with every character.

I'll still watch every week.

took me forever to get around to watching the last few episodes. the show just got so dam ****ty. but i kinda like it at the same time. super weird how this show is so ****ty but everyone keeps watching.

ray's kids are amazingly bad. they make homeland's kids look good. ray's wife is one of the worst of all time characters too.

i don't mind bunchy. i kinda like him.

the dying guy living across from JV should rob a bank like he talks about

i liked when the girl waved to her stalker

the storyline with the brother who wants to move to ireland is terrible

i dont understand why they cancelled the JV movie? just cuz he had beef with that one producer? surely a big shot producer in hollywood has enemies who would love to make a profitable movie and spite their enemy at the same time

In the first season, Ray was clearly the good guy turning bad because of daddy issues. This season, Micky stepped back and he doesn't conflict with Ray no more. I find interesting to see Ray breaking bad and having nobody to blame but its own selfishness. I think the show still could turn good with how everything is open ended at this point (well, there isn't any plot to be solved anyway).

Talking of breaking bad, I've noticed quite a few scenes that are similar (omg how can he even mention BrBa ITT???) in their weirdness such as the dolphin scene in the first ep this year. Like somebody said earlier, it's more artsy and that's enough to make me look forward to watching it every week.

Btw I learned this week that Jon Voight (Mickey) is Angelina Jolie's dad.

Ray Donovan is a meta fictional show where good watchers enjoy getting molested by awful tv .... while watching a family of molestation victims featuring good actors (for the most part)
