It might come to that. In the previews Assinvader took the box of evidence without telling Vic and then Vic finds out and confronts him about it.

Yeah when they introduced her all clumsily like that, I was thinking "oh, a love interest for Vic, ok." But she's fugly so I'm wondering why his conquests are getting worse.

My inner X-Files geek is having none of this.

Great episode and a promising start to the season. I've been very pleased with the emergence of Ronnie at the end of last season/this episode as a more central character. Also the Billings stuff was hilarious.

Ronnie has minimal beard going on early this season. In this recent episode I think I saw scars on his cheek from him getting his face pressed against a hot grill. I'm a little spotty on my Shield viewing, but has Ronnie sufficiently paid back the grill burner? Even if he has I hope he still has enough anger to damage someone else with kitchen equipment, hot, cold, or what have you.

yes. It's like a hyper version of The Wire. IE, think the other two shows mixed into The Wire in terms of drama.

I thought the show was awesome. I had re-watched seasons 1-6 over the summer to "refresh" my memory for the new season. It didn't help.

The show is awesome and I hate to see it go. For the guy that likes The Wire and Sopranos, I love those shows too and the Shield is a nice change of pace. Vic is like a comic book character. They really walk that "superhero" line, but that's what makes the show awesome.

I like Shane. He can dig some deep holes and I'm assuming he will be the reason for the demise of the strike team and/or Vic. I think Ronnie will end up flipping and revealing all the dirt to Acevada or someone at some point. Shane and Vic will end up dead. In this show, it wouldn't surprise me to see the families go down with them... or maybe even the women turning against Shane and Vic. Endless possibilities and I can't wait to find out.

I don't think they kill off Vic. I can see Shane dying at the hands of the Armenians, but I would bet he might try to right his own wrongs by saving Vic at the last moment and actually dying for him. It's a logical ending to the character arc.

You really wanna know what i think? no? ok, well, im going to tell you anyway....I bet Mara kills Vic. It'd be compeltely unexpected. Everyone's thinking the Armenians or some other criminal is going to do Vic in (maybe even the Mexican boss that had his files lost)...Mara killing Vic would blow people's minds in true 'the shield' fashion!

I agree with OP, I missed a lot of info because I don't have season 6 DVDs and forgot a ton of stuff. I'm still trying to repiece things together.

IMO the series declined a bit from season 5 in terms of plot -- they're really trying to force a lot of things that they weren't before. Billings is freaking hilarious, no doubt, but he's also a pretty blatant foil to get laughs whenever things get slightly too intense. The obvious love interest in the FBI agent is another example.

was hilarious. It was a little oddly worded but whatever, still friggin hilarious.

Can someone update me on what happened with the massacre from last season? Was it ever really resolved? It seems off the radar so far and I remember it being a major plot line throughout the season last year. Probably something else I forgot.

I don't remember the exact connection, but I think the investigation of the massacre is what led them to the Mexican official who Vic caught with all of Cruz Pasuela's bribery material in his trunk, and of course that plotline is continuing this season.

It does but it doesn't really go into detail.

I did recall it leading to that whole mexican official thing, and from what it sounds like, it's still unsolved -- correct? They think that mexican gang that's moving in did it, but can't (and haven't) proved it? Just curious cause I thought it'd be brought up in the first ep and it wasn't touched on at all -- making me wonder if it was a closed case and in the past.

That was it. Ronnie was standing behind some big pipes and he sort of tossed/slid it across the floor at Cavanaugh. Then Lem saved him.

But to him, it's all good because he only steals from thieves, he only kills criminals, and he only lies to those who keep him from accomplishing the above goals. Vic's a cop that disagrees with the system but needs it in order to keep the streets safe. And that's essentially the existential allegory of the whole show -- humankind struggling to deal with the limitations of a system that seems hopelessly flawed.
People always seem to forget that Vic's a cop killer. Ultimately he's out for himself and the group of people really close to him. I watched Season 1 and 2 after seeing Seasons 3 and 4, and I was completely blown away when Vic killed the cop. It seemed outside of the image I'd built up of him being a basically good guy that just felt the ends justified the means.

Yeah Vic's murder of the IAD rat is the worst thing he ever did throughout the series. But under his moral code, Reed Diamond wasn't a cop the way the strike team -- or even Dutch and Danny -- are cops. He's a rat and a traitor. And he's getting in the way of the strike team's "justice," so he had to go.

What's unbelievable about the first season is how it spends the first episode making sure you hate Vic for his unforgivable, murderous, despicable behavior, then it spends the next 11 episodes getting you to like him anyway.

Very true. But I've always felt its inconsistent with how Vic deals with his problems in the rest of the series. He never even came close to doing something like killing Acevedo or even really the black IA dude (can't remember his name right now) , did he? And he definitely despised them and didn't consider them real cops.

Finally watched it. I don't think Vic's arc is going to end well. Throughout the whole series the end goal of the most heinous actions was to reduce crime. Even the murder of Terry Crowley was done to make sure the Strike Team remained effective so they could reduce crime through Vic's twisted logic. The episode ends with Vic saying "Well we just sit back and watch a gang war" they are actively starting a gang war, which is causing crime and on a much bigger scope than anything they have ever done before.
