Just found out Amazon made a series out of Garth Ennis' "The Boys" comic. It's about a world with a super corrupt corporate system of Super-Heroes, and a secret government black-ops group of superhumans keeping them in check.

I found the comics pretty amazing. Adapting this seems challenging, but even if they do this only half-right this should still be great!

Just to give an idea about the comic:

Spoiler:

lol just read the above and got reminded of Love Sausage. OMG I hope they make enough seasons to get to Love Sausage! Ya'll are in for a treat!

This was good, I was sick yesterday and binged the whole thing. I never read the comics, but this did a real good job of worldbuilding and the action scenes do a great job of using their budget to maximum effect.

It's a show you can tell knew was getting a second season because they didn't really end the season on a natural story beat, it's not even really a cliff hanger so much as we're still in the middle of the plot.

I quite liked it. I also appreciated Amazon keeping it at 8ep instead of Netflix's regular 13 which really dilutes the story.

If there is one thing they somewhat failed I think it was the scene with Deep and Starlight. I feel it didn't do enough to make the viewers utterly hate Deep, since from there on out he became pretty sad character whom you felt even bit bad for.

Spoiler:
from what I understand, in the comics it was much worse, and starlight had to blow all of them. It is tamer than the comics. Never read the comics, just reviews on youtube

Deep becoming a pathetic loser was I think the intended arc but I think a bigger issue with him is how he didn't matter, at all, to anything after that.

Spoiler:

I guess comic book readers know what him shaving his head means but he was completely unconnected from the plot for the last like 5 episodes.

Which is weird with having him be the bad guy right at the start, you expect him doing that(the audience's first knowledge that The Seven are bad!) to be the start of establishing him as a villain instead of setting him up as the comic relief.

Spoiler:
That would certainly give Starlight much better justification to hate Vaughn and the Seven. Now it felt she kinda brushed aside the fact that Hughie murdered Translucent, which isn't really in-character for her. She doesn't really have much reason to despite him except him lurking in the toilet.

Regarding 7 being bad, I also find it bit strange that we are supposed to dislike Maeve when she didn't do a single bad thing in the show. Quite the opposite, in fact. (Btw, early on in episode 1 when she stops the bus/truck/car/whatever by standing in front of it I was funny expecting the debris to hit the kids as to show how the superheroes are showoffs who don't really care about collateral damage.)

The 7's ninja guy didn't have a single spoken line in the show, right?

I'm a fan of the comics and loved the show.

I'm not gonna spoil anything just list a couple differences:

- In the comics The Deep is basically just a background character who doesn't really get any development and is basically just there for the rest of the Seven to make fun of how useless he is.
- Queen Maeve is much more jaded in the comics, she basically spends the entire comic drunk, ****ing random nameless men and being basically numb to everything.
- Translucent was invented for the show. He takes the place of the comic character Jack from Jupiter, who is a Martian Manhunter/Shazam type of character.
- In general all the heroes are much more sympathetic than their comic counterparts.

The show moves very fast compared to the comics:

Spoiler:

- There are 72 issues of the comics.
- The comics version of the plane incident isn't until #21.
- Butcher doesn't find out about Hughie and Starlight dating until #39.
- In the comics there are many more superheroes besides the Seven (they mention this in the show too but we don't really see any of them.) A lot of the earlier comics are The Boys going after these other groups.

The cliffhanger at the end of episode 8 is completely different then the events in the comics, it basically doesn't happen. Comic spoilers (doesn't spoil the show):

Spoiler:
The story of the Homelander/Butcher feud is basically the same as the first story told to the Homelander: Homelander raped Butchers wife, the baby lasers its way out and Butcher smashes it with a lamp.

The airplane incident is also very different in the comics. Comic spoilers:

Spoiler:
In the comics the "plane incident" is 9/11. The government actually paid attention to their intel and were prepared for 9/11. When the planes were hijacked they shot three of them down but under pressure from Vought-owned officials one of the planes was let through so the Seven could handle it. They then proceed to **** it up similar to the show but instead of the plane hitting the WTC it hits and destroys the Brooklyn Bridge.

Only read the OP but after reading that it is based comics by the same guy that did Preacher, (same Executive producers too) I'm really excited to check this out right after I finish rewatching season 3 of Preacher before the season 4 premier this weekend.

This show is bonkers lol. Really entertaining. The guy playing Hughie is very good in a tough role. Anthony Starr is amazing.

One thing I didn't like was that poor dolphin The Deep was trying to rescue.

Just started watching this show, very fun and dark. I think it's a cool take on the superhero genre and wouldn't expect anything less from Garth Ennis. Will continue to watch and enjoy.

Season 2 was greenlit before they released season 1. It won't be done filming until November.

I finished the comic books. The TV show is so much better on pretty much every aspect. Kudos to the writers they did some crazy jobs.
Frenchie origin in the comic book was super weird and kinda explain one thing that bothered me about the casting the actor does not speak French which is obvious when you are French but would makes sense in the comic as he come from a fictional area where they speak English with a bit of French words here and there. The actor was great but the accent was a bit distracting for me.

Loved it. Wish it was more than 8 episodes and looking forward to another season. Will be interesting to see where they take it for season 2.

So many moments where I looked at my gf and was like "what the **** just happened?" and some truly laugh out loud moments like the dolphin and lobster.

loved it. one thing that bothered me in retrospect though was how butcher tells hughie homelander is all clean when in reality the main reason butcher is going after them is because of what homelander did to him.

Yeah you'll probably like it even more. It plays like someone read 70s superhero comics and went "what is this bs?!" then wrote this show.

Question about why Butcher says Homelander is "clean":

Spoiler:
I've never read the comics and may not be remembering the show properly but did they leave the issue of his wife's consent ambiguous? I am going to rewatch the episode soon but is it clear whether she was raped or cheated on him?
