I'm through ep 3. Enjoying it so far. Saying there are lots of interesting weird characters is an understatement.

I skimmed a little of the wiki on the books a few weeks ago. Its awesome seeing the show develop into where I roughly understand it is going.

The "cowboy character" is building especially well.

Heard about this a while ago. Didn't even realized it premiered yet. Terrible marketing effort by AMC. I guess they're going for the slow gradual uptick a la Breaking Bad.

It has gotten quite a bit better in the last couple episodes.

Watched the first 2 episodes and will probably watch the rest tomorrow. It isn't bad but it definitely isn't Preacher.

The way I've been reading it is that the first season is kind of a prequel and this last episode kind of leads into the books. I don't know, never read the books though. Definitely picked up as it went along.

church scene was a monthy python clip, enjoyed it but really, i want the show like it was in the beginning more gritty, cassidys banter wins the show though

That Joseph Gilgun actor is very enjoyable to watch imo as a vampire, like u just cant dont like him . Like a lot the pilot ep where he fought in the plane, was very nice action scene. The rest was just semi good. Final ep was funny yep. I didnt read any comic (only mickey mouse year ago ) so i dont know what to expect but from what i read in wikipedia its gonna be long jurney with interesting creatures and looking for that. Btw i watched Warcraft the movie where Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga are playing and they are a real couple and in that tv show they look very nice.

Not read the comics but absolutely loved the show. Season finale was especially strong imo.

Really loved the season. I don't know anything about the comics, but everyone I know who likes comics LOVES Preacher. I love how the show progressed from something somwhat based in reality, to a little weird, to what feels like a Troma TV series in the span of 10 episodes.

Also
Spoiler:
R.I.P. Tom Cruise

Just finished the season. It was good but it was like they took the comic characters and decided to write about the general pointless **** they do before the story starts. The season basically covers the events of issue #1 of the comics, plus Arseface, Odin Quincannon, and the Saint of Killers backstory.

But given how different it is from the comics it says something that I don't dislike it, considering it is my favorite comic series. I even have a zippo with **** Communism engraved on it, not that it is ever going to come up in the tv show given they changed Jesse's father's backstory.

If anyone is interested: http://imgur.com/a/jAug3

Yeah I have one too. I actually had to get a new one engraved after I lost my old one.

My problem is not with the pointless bs they added to the Annville storyline to fill out the season, it's that they drastically changed some of the characters in ways that are going to be difficult to reconcile and definitely not for the better.

Jessie in the comics is a self-righteous *******, but he stands behind his beliefs and doesn't waffle like he does in the show. The changes to his dad are just atrocious as well.

I stopped watching this show around midway through. I, too, love the comics and have read and re-read them many times. Is it worth picking back up? I didn't like a lot of the changes to the characters and the overall direction of the story (in the show).

I haven't read the comics, but my understanding is the first season in a prequel and its end is when the comic begins.

I've read the comics and agree re. changes etc. although this news that season 1 is supposed a prequel makes me more hopeful for season 2.

That said, I thought the season got better as it went on so it probably is worth watching the last few episodes, although overall it was pretty uneven. Definitely some good episodes in there.

Rogen said on the post-show that just jumping right into the comic would have confused the hell out of non-readers and never given it a chance to survive. Not that I had any idea what the hell was going on the first half of the season as a non-reader.

Hadn't watched any episodes since the pilot, then just marathoned the rest of the season over the last few days. Almost stopped watching after episode 6. Powered through and am lukewarm on season 1.

They are definitely going for a different kind of feel/tone than the source material. The original comic could be a little over the top now and then, but the tv series goes straight to zany at times. Doesn't really fit with the overall story when you expect the Benny Hill theme to start playing at any moment. Perhaps they thought the source material was just too dark.

The character treatments still seem mixed.

Tulip - I'm fine with Tulip now that they've backed off the zany pilot intro garbage.
Jesse - mostly fine as well. Adding the new banishing power is stupid.
Cassidy - still a little too comical but I understand that they decided to square peg him into the comedy relief slot.
Arseface - wonderfully done.
Saint of Killers - looks great so far.
Jesse's dad - what they did with this character is criminal.
The angels - a different direction, but true to the spirit of the source material.
Quincannon - all I see is Rorschach.

It seems like they are staying mostly true to the characters and just approaching the storytelling from a different angle. That's fine, but it would be nice if they used a tone more similar to the source material. The story isn't really one that supports shoehorned comedy and overt zaniness. They should stick to little snippets like the "food court! food court!" charge, or the "but what about my comics?" response to the no carryons rule. Those kind of things are gold.
