how the heck does he do that. There's no way he can put a celebrity into the photograph unless the "audience member" is in on it.

anyone know how the first trick on Season 3 episode 1 is done? The one with the blank book, and the magician is standing back to back with the red head? there's no memorization and no switching of the book.

Invisible ink and glasses which can see it. He switches the glasses out for just frames at the end.

That Vitaly Beckman magic appearing picture trick is tough to crack. I can figure most tricks out and still love to see them performed. That picture one is unique.

BTW Mac King's rope trick is grade "A" masterful, fabulous; on youtube

Both his tricks on the show were great. The guy is a real performer. Also enjoyed the rope trick, he's incredible with that.

I need someone to post after every show explaining how every trick is done, because I can't seem to figure out most of them. Watching S3E9 now and they have some guy that's levitating while jumping rope. I'm assuming he's using the rope to wind up something off to the sides behind those curtains? Not sure.

Holy **** at (according to Penn) The Evasons not using any gimmicked transmission technology or, I presume, a gimmicked blindfold. Wow.

The readings from the audience members seem to be

Spoiler:
they knew who they would pick in advance and possibly had the producers put them in aisle seats. they stalked the guy on facebook to learn about the watch and engraving and had some kind of code for other items (like the glasses case) that could be handed over.

not sure how they did the serial number

Glasses could be as simple as the guy always going to someone holding up a glasses case (there's probably going to be one, if not go for an iPhone).

Pick was really impressive, it's so out there, the kind of item an audience member might hold once a year, pretty incredible to have a code for that. Asking for the colour of something is standard, just need a dozen or so ways of asking (Rainbow colours + white, cream, grey, black).

Serial number would be good to know how the segment was edited.

(Just) remember the value of this bill

Remember was strongly emphasised. The first 4 numbers of the serial are 9828 & the number of letters in the coloured phrases is 8828. Could be something like "just" signifies $100 bill, "now" would mean $50, "please", $20 etc.

Then the number of letters indicates the serial number. Emphasising remember indicates add a letter. So "recall" and "remember" cover any number from 6-9. It's smooth, they need a way to differentiate between "the value" = 8 & how to convey (35).

Audience member readings are done by pregaming either asking the producers for a list of attendants & searching their social media accounts as you say or getting an assistant to mingle with the audience pre show and pass on pertinent information.

magic fans,

there's a new david blaine special tonight: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/15...-magic-1639169

also, i went and saw dynamo in an arena out of curiosity recently (free corporate seats), and (unsurprisingly?) it was pretty bad if you were over 12 years old.

Wtf, Shin Lim returns! (s04e03)

Spoiler:
That guy's sleight of hand must be just insane. Assuming that's all he's doing and there's no video trickery etc. on this show.

The cards are gimmicked. IANAM but this looked significantly easier to do than his first performance.

Teller's reaction was great.

I watched it at .25 speed and couldn't see anything, great trick.

I felt like the chalkboard thing just made the trick longer without adding much and the frog should've been the focus and finale.

I have no idea where that frog came from.

Here's a podcast in which they interview one of the magic consultants of Fool Us (not Johnny Thompson -- the other one). I found the insights that he provides fascinating, and it implicitly explains some of the crappy acts that in no way could have fooled Penn and Teller (Jibrizi, the guy with no hands, etc.)

According to this guy, Penn and Teller is not a 'magic' show but a variety show. The acts are chosen by the network and the show producers, *not* by the magicians -- who then have the task of getting their presentation up to snuff. To the extent of actually completely re-writing somebody's performance, for example.

He’s just very good at sleight of hand. When I watched his first Fool Us performance I was offended that Penn and Teller pretended he fooled them. He’s good, but easy to figure out.
