Stuck it out through the 1st season and actually I thought the second half of the season was much better than the first half so I'll keep watching. Much more interested in a handful of characters now than I initially was. Piper beat the ****ing brakes off that girl.

I think if I watched the new season the night it went live, I'd probably have watched them all, but it's been a few days and I don't really even wanna start the new season.

Finished season 3... While I think it was def a step down, the last 3-4 eps were much better

Overall season 3 is slow and not much progression. Only good thing were the back grounds

I'm on episode 10... i can't believe how long they're going with this panties storyline. It's not funny, it's repulsive, and it's basically Piper's storyline outside of the now repetitive Alex relationship.

The Crazy Eyes sex novel is also pretty terrible.

... that being said, i still like this show and feel like I've always felt. Ask me "Why" I like it, and I have no answer. I never have. if it was a weekly episodic, I probably wouldn't watch, but since it's a binge show, I'm all about it.

I'm two episodes in and struggling to stay with it. I really liked S1 and thought S2 was a bit of a step down but I still enjoyed it. The first two episodes of S3 were a chore to get through. The episodes seem to drag on and on.

It is alarming that the the two marquis Netflix original shows have gone to crap in Season 3. Did they hire a bunch of writers away from Showtime?

I liked season 3 more than season 2. Season 2 had too much of an Oz-feel with the drug dealing and thuggery.

The flashback/background stories were my favorite part of season 3. I liked that previously minor characters (Big Boo, Flaca, Chang, Norma, Leanne) were focused on here.

It was disappointing to see Nicky leave early in the season.

However, Morello ramping up the crazy was good. And, somehow Pennsatucky became a sympathetic character.

That Caputo is the only person on the show I care about...

Overall it was about what I expected from the series. But I think the writers deserve major praise for:

Spoiler:
(1) Turning Tiffany/Pennsatucky into a sympathetic, even likable character.
(2) Having Piper go all Breaking Bad. She is one of the most evil characters on the show now, and it's more fun to hate her for being ruthless than it is to hate her for being merely self-obsessed and oblivious.

what I don't quite get...

Spoiler:
What is so illegal about Piper's business? Maybe she's stealing the material from the shop but as she said, it's basically just stealing garbage. I don't really follow how Alex is so panicked about this being a big money laundering scheme or why she has to use this phone money thing and her brother can't just load the other girl's commisarries. Piper is also not convincing as a criminal mastermind, she looks like every speech she's about to break out laughing.

General thoughts - season ended kind of weirdly. Why did they show Boo getting electrocuted as a teenager (if that was Boo)? The lake scene was interminable and left nothing - should have inverted the lake scene and the Alex greenhouse scene.

The whole Sophia end of season storyline was terrible and smacked of the show wanting to "make a statement". It was established earlier in the season that many of the girls in prison have seen her naked and know she's not packing anymore so the whole rumour is hardly believable.

Whole season built slowly and then didn't pay off. Pretty disappointing.

[SPOIL ] It's definitely very illegal. Firstly she's using property that isn't hers, whether it's "excess" or not. Secondly she is then using a guard to smuggle the contraband outside of the prison. Then she has a team of girls whom she pays up participate which can be considered organized crime.

They definitely monitor the commissary and can't just have one person loading it without drawing suspicion.

As for her speeches, I think it's because she still lacks self awareness. She thinks it is a game which is why it is funny to her... She doesn't see the seriousness of her actions and does not think she is doing anything wrong.

Maybe at the end of the season she realized finally how sinister she was but even still she doesn't see herself as a full blown criminal (yet) [/SPOIL]

It kinda felt like the show had no idea what it wants to be after s3. It was fun enough that I watched it in few days, but can't call it great by any means.

What I liked in s3:

-Boo
-Brook
-Chaca
-Caputo & Danny
-Stella and accent

What I disliked:

-Panties
-Lake
-Crazy Eyes

Just finished this and although I liked this season I kind of feel the show is going off the rails the same way Weeds did. Some of the story lines (Norma cult, piper/panties, crazy eyes novel) seemed completely ridiculous and out of p lace. I'll Def watch next season but if it gets too wacky I might have to bail

I wasn't feeling it after the first episode, but as a few of you seemed to have enjoyed it, and I definitely remember really liking it, I think I'm going to have another crack at it over the weekend.

A few episodes into the season I was giving it a B/B+, then about three-quarters into the season the grittiness had picked up and my grade improved to an A-, and after the lake scene (and ensuing "back to reality" moment brought to you by corporate sponsor MCC) it went up to an A. The lake scene was not hokey or melodramatic at all because of how successfully the show has humanized all of the characters with their own unique, interesting, and sometimes tragic story lines. The show is drifting towards being a drama more than a comedy which seems like the right way to go. They've created a big, unpredictable universe. The dialogue, acting, and details are consistently great. Caputo's storyline was particularly awesome in Season Three, but other standout performers included Mendoza, Sophia, Soso, and once again, and still the GOAT imo, Chapman.

Last ep Question

Spoiler:
Is the bus full of girls coming in from Max maybe? They mentioned that Max sucked and maybe it was consolidated? MCC mentioned visiting Max too.. Seems like it would be a way to get a few characters back and introduce some more. Or I guess it could just be randoms and they were just doing a overpopulating thing

The way I took it:

Spoiler:
They were from a different facility, either government run or by the company that bought the prison, not from max. By taking in more inmates within the same facility with a similar workforce can double your income while keeping your overhead flat. Just a way to maximize the profitability for the parent company that took over the prison
