Ratings and reviews are two different things. The Walking Dead has a rating of 8.5. If the name of the director/creator wasn't David Lynch it would have been a low 4 most likely.

Sort by helpfulness and go through a few of them. Out of the first 20 there's 4 reviews higher than a 6 and the overwhelming majority are less than 3's. Keep going and it's apparent than most of the people who watched this show not only didn't find it as good as you did but they actually hated it which was similar to my experience.

I semi-enjoyed the original series but I wish I had stopped after they reveal who the killer was. It all went downhill from there. Twin Peaks is not for everyone. It's a soap opera with a hint of mystery and crime that somehow evolves into a bizzare science fiction show with no set rules. Did I mention that it's dated like hell. I get that it was revolutionary when some people were young and tv sucked but in today's world with all the abundance of great tv (like Young Sheldon and CSI:Miami) nobody should be wasting time watching this.

If you liked season 3 of Twin Peak good for you. But don't pretend like it's not at best a super polarizing show and that whoever didn't enjoy it is an idiot who's not up to your level of intellect.

Finally got around to watching Mindhunter over the past week or so. It was good but it wouldn't crack my top 20. Will watch future seasons/episodes but didn't find it as enticing as our poll here did.

Pretty decent results all things considered. I missed out on the voting entirely. To me, three shows clearly stood out above anything else last year: The Leftovers, Twin Peaks, and The Handmaid's Tale. So glad The Leftovers won though, I love that show so much <3

I'm not an old (early 30s), and I'd agree with Dom to watch S1 first. Like many dramas, the first episode of S3 begins with the end of the S2 finale. So don't spoil yourself!

FWIW, I binged S1-S2 around 2009-2010, so I'm not guilty of having nostalgia goggles (I wasn't old enough to understand & process most shows when TP originally aired).

S1 has only 8 episodes (the first of which is the pilot episode). If you're not feeling it after episodes 1-2 of S1, then it's probably not for you. If you decide to give it a shot, at least stick with it through E2; the first/pilot episode has a different feel than the rest of S1.

And the soundtrack will own you.

(FWIW, I'd rank the TP seasons as follows: S1 > S3 > S2.)

Yeah the Twin Peaks pilot is pretty campy with bad overacting. It gets real good from E2 onwards tho. Eps 2-->~10 (can't remember the exact episode where to draw the line) are just GOAT level tv.

Really tough to rank the seasons, I think seasons 1 and 3 are somewhat even and 2 is a fair bit worse (mainly the second half of it, excluding the season finale which is epic)


Also not and old, I'm 31 but I first saw Twin Peaks when I was like 9 years old. Got pretty bad nightmares about Sarah Palmer's hallucinations

It's supposed to be campy and over-the-top and other-worldy. It's supposed to be weird. The acting is absolutely perfect for what Lynch is trying to do.

I'm just confused how someone can love the first season and think thre pilot isn't good.

The pilot was one of the most revelatory pieces of art I've ever seen.

Then why is the overacting not at all in line with the episodes that follow?

FWIW I always thought the pilot was great, I'd probably seen it 4 times but not in quite a while. I recently watched it with someone new to Twin Peaks and she pointed that out, and it bothered me throughout once I noticed how ridic the overacting was. Then from ep 2 onwards it was mostly gone. I love Lynch but I just don't understand what purpose having everyone overact in the pilot and then tone it down from ep2 onwards would possibly serve? I realize that the campy feel that remains throughout s1-2 is done on purpose, but I just think there's a pretty dramatic contrast between the pilot and the rest, and imo they only really nail it from ep2 onwards.

I don't know what to tell you, the first season seems perfect and completely in line with the pilot to me.

Obv there are campy moments everywhere (including s3), but imo the pilot is way overboard compared to the rest. Maybe it's just me tho.
