Sucks that only the first 2 seasons are on streaming, though. I think I watched both seasons in 4 days, it was a sick ride.

AD is definitely my favorite show of all time, although i'd have to say seasons 1-4 of the wire are the GOAT (ugh season 5, what a travesty til like the last 2 eps)

Yea if you haven't seen AD that should be a priority. I am envious of you getting to watch it for the first time.

As far as comedies go there is no question in my mind that my list would go

1.) Arrested Development
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Anything else.

A lot of Arrested Development fans here... not sure why, that show sucks

Top 5 comedies
1. Southpark
2. Flight of the Conchords
3. Even though it's only one season so far, Eastbound and Down
4. Trailer Park Boys
5. Summer Heights High (the Jonah character only, the other 2 are just awful)

AD has HUGE rewatch value. I could barely watch all of the Conchords when i got the 2 season boxset for Xmas. It had some gold but there was so much terrible to balance it.

It is telling just how far it slipped that no one is going to consider naming the Simpsons.

Curb needs to be in the top 5 and Frasier prob should be too. The Office and Fawlty Towers pretty much rounds out a top 5 with AD, not sure its mine without really considering it but with these groundbreaking shows of amazing and consistent quality its hard to not include all of them with an objective analysis.

Though im not sure how well Fawlty Towers travels across the pond it is the comedians comedy and is regularly listed when people make a hit show and name their influences (examples of Father Ted, The Office, 3rd Rock and Cheers amongst others all of which i would accept being in someones top 5, lol).

i think this has to be recency bias. yeah, new stuff isn't spectacular. but go re-watch the first 10 seasons. seasons 3-8 in particular, there isn't a dud episode in the entire run.

yea if trailer park boys is in your top 5 comedies i don't expect you to actually enjoy a show with real acting and writing

i totally forget about TPB. i've been watching it for years - it was never on in the us (at least not in ohio) and we had to watch bootlegs, etc. eventually i just ordered all of the dvds from canada. great show, eh?!

Jesus this thread has degenerated into garbage. I'm working my way through all seasons of The Wire now, just wondering when I'm all done and open up The Wire Season 5 if the last 3 pages of that will be arguing South Park vs Family guy.

This speaks to how great a show Lost will be remembered to be.

I still have strong feeling of loss regarding Lost, it ending feels a bit like losing a close friend or relative. I avoid this thread because it hurts to remind myself. There is no other show that has had that effect on me long term, despite all the flaws it obviously had. That's some absolutely amazing piece of television, I look forward to getting over the loss enough to be able to watch it again.

I don't know if I have ever laughed harder at FT.

Anyway, it helps to distinguish style and type. Someone above listed Seinfeld/Frasier as favorite comedies. That style of show is different from someone who would list Simpsons/Family Guy.

The great thing about Lost was that it brought together a lot of different types of viewer and balanced the genres. Towards the last 3 seasons it veered off to the Star Trek and Donnie Darko types, which lost the people who tuned in to see who Kate was hooking up with.

Alan Sepinwall does a second review of the LOST finale a month later:

Like I said in my initial review, "Lost" didn't always work as a cohesive whole, but was incredible when broken down into individual moments. And if I look back at the series in that way, I'll be following Christian's advice to his son, learning to remember the good times and let go of the bad - even if I consider the scene where he offered said advice to be one of the less-good times.

phil's got it right.

Frasier, Curb, Simpsons season 1-12ish are solid

Friends and That 70's show are an consistently funny as curb and frasier, but I enjoyed them.

if someone doesn't enjoy arrested development, that just tells me they aren't smart enough to enjoy it.

In lost news, Matthew Fox got nominated for an emmy for best actor.

Some guy is re-doing the final LOST season removing the sideways flashes (because he was disappointed in the ending). You can watch episodes w/o them.

jesus h, did you just rate trailer park boys and 1/3 of summer heights high above arrested development? you clearly have a stunted sense of humor. puke.

P.S. after having 2 months (or whatever) to digest it, the Lost ending still completely blows.
