The way I interpreted it is, that Jack died and that is his own personal heaven. Everything that happened happened. Hurley and Ben are still on the island and will continue to live for whoever knows how long. The people on the plane with Lapidus are still alive etc; I'm thrilled that they decided to keep the past unchanged.
I'm pretty satisfied. They left a lot of doors opened, but they made it clear the show stars and ends with Jack. It was his story, the rest were just supporting characters.
because if the plane flew off the island, which to my understanding it cannot, how are they all dead and chilling together? im just guessing, im a bit lost too, but to me it makes sense the wreckage wasnt a flashback
Time doesn't matter. Everyone on Lepidus' plane died (because every human being dies). But maybe 50 years later.
Yup, the on-island stuff happened. When everybody died, they were transplanted to their on-island selves in limbo. Once everybody joined them, they were able to move on. I like it. Unfortunately, Kate should've transplanted to first trip to island self.
Sigh, didn't like the ending either. Thought the first 2 hours were going to lead up to a really good ending but it seemed like a let down.
Yeah, the first two hours were pretty decent and brought a lot of the old feel back. The 'shipper pleasing stuff was overly lame, but whatever. The ending, just plain awful. I could have done without the entire flash sideways. It served no purpose at all other than being a red herring and making it so they could be lazy in writing.
I think this was very well done. I'm not sure what's going on though.
Thinking about it more, I like the ending.
I'm on board with the island being real life, but the "sideways timeline" being purgatory-ish in that everyone had to stay there until the whole oceanic group were together at which point they could move on.
Although I'm unhappy about a lot of the magical devices like "The light" and such.
Phils i thought the wreckage was original reckage. And it actually just crashed and they died and the island was purgatory n till they all understood it they couldnt go to heaven. Jack was last one obv.
The alt timeline is "purgatory" for lack of a better word, but they couldn't leave it until they all remembered their actual lives on island.
I thought it was an awesome episode. All of those flash backs just made me remember how awesome this show was for 6 years. I've never looked forward to a show more than I did with this one, I'm really going to miss it. It's like finishing a book that took you 120 hours to read over a 6 year span.
Of those of you understanding what's going on, take a shot:
What is the significance of Ben not going into the church?
He's not ready to move-on to the after life. Just like some dead people were caught up on the island (which is why you didn't see Walt's Dad) Ben had to work through his issues from real life before moving on.
